If you like Ys or Gurumin then you are almost 100% certain to enjoy this hidden gem. It's comfort food. A cute simple game, more than interesting enough to keep you playing. Never takes itself too seriously while having solid gameplay. One of the many games that make Falcom one of my favorite companies, I'd put the gameplay of their games up there with with Dragon Quest and Kingdom Hearts but with a much more fun English localization. (if you get stuck on some of the vague parts the only decent guide is the acheivmnet guide though)

if you love Ys and other RPGs like that- this is a true hidden treat I'm so glad the West got and found! One of my biggest surprises yet on Steam!

The combat is mindless mashing and/or kiting at best, mildly annoying (especially during bossfights) at worst. Though it's not very tight, the game is not very challenging either, so no big deal, tanking some hits and healing up works just fine. It is pretty satisfying seeing the loot fly out of the enemies Music and voice acting are very good, but the voices in some cutscenes get drowned out by the music Would seem like an ok game for kids, but the characters say "sh!t" and "b!tch" Story is alright, the characters are good. I was engaged The dungeon design is pretty fun for what it's worth, and the graphics are pleasant Crashed more than a couple times for me and the cutscenes are unskippable...And there's a hefty amount of them Sometimes, the game would use items or switch weapons without my input when using a controller, which can be annoying if you're trying to save up food to trade up... A pretty good game, but not an easy recommend. If you're looking for SOUL, you'll probably enjoy it. Otherwise, the gameplay itself might not hold your attention for long

very nice beginner friendly rpg with enough balance between quirky comedy & serious story moment, had a lot of puzzle to keep the dungeon not so linear & enemy variety tackled with different magic type

An improvement on the first game in most ways. Combat has more moves, combos are actually animated, you can jump, the mage is more useful through the whole game. Inventory manage is infinitely improved. (Hell, it's basically outright eliminated.) There's much better tracking in the menus for where you have been and which stages you found the unique treasures in. The game swerves right out of the gate, with a set of circumstances between the deuteragonists I was not expecting at all after the first game. Ragna and Alwen are a pretty good pair, and it was nice to see their partnership grow through the game. The story I would say is a bit more melodramatic and takes itself more seriously than the previous game. I wouldn't say I preferred it wholly to Zwei 1, but it is a bit less of a basic traditional video game story. The soundtrack is still excellent. The artstyle admittedly cannot in any way age as well as the first game's hand drawn graphics did, but it's still fine for a chibi styled game. The progression is a bit more segmented and straightforward, with the level-scaling clearly showing you are meant to do most areas in one location, rather than there being stages for most power levels spread throughout every location. This does make it more modern and streamlined, but it does take away that sense that you are finding your way around the world on your own terms that I loved about the first game. But this is the kind of thing we give up in all games for the sake of modernization and QoLs. There's some great and colorful NPCs in this game, such as the penguin attendant and her monsieur, the chainsmoking nun, the dude with baby chicks on his head that no one else seems to notice, and plenty others. Some of them even have more clearly defined mini-arcs this time. Overall this is a joyful little adventure that can be appreciated whether you played the first game or not. Indeed, I can see some people who wouldn't like the first game enjoying this one, for it being more focused and modern. For myself, I enjoyed it even more from having played the first game beforehand, and the warm familiarity of so many aspects and visuals from before, combined with more engaging gameplay, were a real treat.
