While not that impressed at first, seeing it as just a weaker take on Poker Quest, the game's mechanics eventually won me over. Choosing which spells are triggered by which poker hand lead to a lot of interesting synergies. Like do you take the spell for a given poker hand that synergiezes best or maybe another spell that doesn't synergize as well but you've managed to level up much more from the random level rewards?

A fun and well balanced deck builder that finally brings some innovations to the genre. In this game you don't have to struggle with removing the same starting trash cards from your deck every run or not taking cards at all. Instead of adding cards to the deck, you have a number of slots and can swap cards into those slots whenever you want. And as long as you have resources, you can play those cards however often you want per turn. Your actual deck is only used as a resource to play your cards. That leaves a lot of room for experimentation to try out cool combos and you also have so many combinations for what you can do per turn. You could do like 10 weak attacks or 2 big attacks, or maybe 2 medium attacks and a few weak attacks. Or you could save up some cards to get the huge combo next turn. It feels so good to have your super combo execute and oneshot enemies. The classes are quite distinct and have roughly 2-3 main unique mechanics to them, my favorite is the mage, since the mage has huge damage spikes and amazing debuffs. I do think that the rogue class needs some card changes to help it fight certain super high health enemies, since it can neither ramp up its damage over time nor deal percent health damage like the other classes. Even though those specific enemies are optional, it still feels bad to struggle against them even with a great build just because your class mechanics are not designed to handle them. (But they work well for everything else) Regarding the difficulty, if you have experience in the genre, the normal difficulty is not really challenging and I would suggest choosing some of the harder difficulties instead. From the amount of content that I have currently seen, I would expect that you could get at least 20-30 hours out of the game before it starts getting repetitive, and I think that this is fair.

Was playing this before Balatro and now returning to it after Balatro. Adventure with fights via poker hands against mobs is central game play about covers it with plenty of surprises in this worthy deck battler! You raise levels of hands to improve them during MEDITATIONS, but you only get one upgrade per and usually can also heal some by resting then as well. Doesn't have joker/blinds torment like Balatro, and fighting multiple mobs is often with plenty of things to overcome, such as debuffs, totally different experience than Balatro and I like it, and paid more for this one than Balatro, and not finished after 7 hours of play, yet. Here you get 1 use ITEMS and multiple use or permanent use ACCESSORIES. At over 10 hours of play now, just beat the 6 stage story in NORMAL mode, unlocked some new things and they will be available next play, and run over: VICTORY! Was roughly 2.5 hours start to finish for just that run.

I took a break from Zoeti whilst it was in early access as I found the game quite difficult. Now I have jumped back in I am making a lot of progress and have unlocked all of the characters and am up to the final chapter in a couple of sessions. The game is good, but very slow, and whilst I enjoy playing it and making progress, I feel like the amount of time required to make progress (it has some visual novel style chats and characters) hinders the enjoyment of the game for me. I will recommend it for fans of card based rogue lite games, on the proviso that it is low intensity and slow moving.
