A fun and well balanced deck builder that finally brings some innovations to the genre. In this game you don't have to struggle with removing the same starting trash cards from your deck every run or not taking cards at all. Instead of adding cards to the deck, you have a number of slots and can swap cards into those slots whenever you want. And as long as you have resources, you can play those cards however often you want per turn. Your actual deck is only used as a resource to play your cards. That leaves a lot of room for experimentation to try out cool combos and you also have so many combinations for what you can do per turn. You could do like 10 weak attacks or 2 big attacks, or maybe 2 medium attacks and a few weak attacks. Or you could save up some cards to get the huge combo next turn. It feels so good to have your super combo execute and oneshot enemies. The classes are quite distinct and have roughly 2-3 main unique mechanics to them, my favorite is the mage, since the mage has huge damage spikes and amazing debuffs. I do think that the rogue class needs some card changes to help it fight certain super high health enemies, since it can neither ramp up its damage over time nor deal percent health damage like the other classes. Even though those specific enemies are optional, it still feels bad to struggle against them even with a great build just because your class mechanics are not designed to handle them. (But they work well for everything else) Regarding the difficulty, if you have experience in the genre, the normal difficulty is not really challenging and I would suggest choosing some of the harder difficulties instead. From the amount of content that I have currently seen, I would expect that you could get at least 20-30 hours out of the game before it starts getting repetitive, and I think that this is fair.

Zoeti is a game that, if you are a fan of roguelite deckbuilders(Slay the Spire, Roguebook, Inscryption, etc) is a must try. But make no mistake, this is game is a strategy game just as much as it is a roguelite deckbuilder. Relying on combinations of cards and keeping track of what you have in your hand as well as your upcoming draws is crucial to the gameplay. Gameplay: You do not build a deck, but rather you build the array of abilities you can use by having specific combinations of cards from a deck made of traditional playing cards. This feels a bit unfamiliar compared to other games in the genre, but once you figure it out, it works well. Combat encounters feel very hit or miss, you will one shot an elite encounter and then the very next encounter be completely helpless. This is partially the nature of roguelites, but at the same time this feels very extreme and very unforgiving. Story: The story, if you are interested, has a lot of depth, however having a story that you repeatedly try to complete and start from scratch after each failed run makes the runs feel a little monotonous. I wanted to skip dialogue, but there are a lot of times where in the middle of 20+ dialogue panels you get to make decisions on gaining specific items so you feel like you can't skip anything. Pros: - The actual gameplay is simple enough to pick up and understand, you don't need to understand poker to understand this - There is a surprising amount of depth in how you manipulate your hand to succeed, and when you can properly manage your hand turn to turn it feels very satisfying - The soundtrack is fantastic - The game is visually very well polished, and accomplishes exactly what it is trying to do Cons: - The tutorial is a bit of an information dump, most people will do better just jumping right in if they have prior experience with the genre rather than trying to read everything and understand what it is saying - This is not a good intro game to roguelike deckbuilders, there is enough complexity that you would be better playing something more straightforward to understand the genre and then coming back to this. Zoeti can be very unforgiving, especially if you do not understand the values of offence and defense and how to balance them in your abilities. If you are a fan of a challenge and roguelite deckbuilders, this game is for you. If you have never played a roguelite deckbuilder before, then look somewhere else, and if you enjoy it, then come back here. You won't regret it.

Initial impressions are positive. I don't play a ton of roguelites, so figuring out which builds work best involves a lot of trial and error on my part. Learning as I go and all that. The soundtrack is relaxing and well suits the world of the game. I've left Zoeti running in the background while working simply because its music brightens up the day. Love the character designs, and the dialogue makes me smirk more times than I expected (cheeky, cheeky Rabelle). Some points for improvement: it seems like this game may have been initially designed for tablets/mobile devices based on the controls. I couldn't find options for remapping either, which was a bit disappointing. There also aren't really any tutorials in-game on how to play a move once it's selected, for example; the answer is just swiping them up toward the fight like you would in a mobile game. I tried playing with a controller since that's what I prefer when possible, and no tutorial there either; there is a list off to the side on what each button does... but it's only in Chinese. Aside from the controls learning curve, nothing negative to say so far. It's an enjoyable time with adorable artwork and lots of options on how to build my deck. Looking forward to unlocking more characters and learning about all the variety in each of their move sets!

This game is really cute, i like the combat a lot. It's a cool take on some turn-based combat. The card system seemed a bit complicated at first, but it was actually easy to pick up. Trying out different abilities each time i start has been cool, and gives a good mix up to avoid sameness. I haven't played many games like this one, but it's been fun!

This is a lot like Slay the Spire, but has some interesting mechanics. The sound design is a little rough (or a bug with my sound setup?), the abilities don't feel impactful even with sound effect volume maxed. There are also some UI issues, this definitely hasn't been in front of enough people. For example, selecting actions still feels pretty awkward. There are places where I expect are arrows that I could click on, but they are just decorative marks, a lot of the icons and such are VERY small, zoom in more, its fine. A lot of abilities are confusing how they work (evasion for instance, if an enemy has evade 4, you need to do 40 or more damage to get past the evade, 10 per stack. This is not clear from the description).
