Okay, so editing this review right now because of the Nexus update. Firstly, the MMO aspect of the game is fine. Its pretty much the only VRMMORPG there is that is worth playing. The world is sizable, even though the assets are reused a bit more than I would like. There are roughly 13 different types of enemies, all re-skinned a few dozen times to fill out the world. If you do NOT like grind, this is probably not a good game for you. Notes on the game: 1: The combat variety is unreasonably limited. Two classes only have one weapon type each, and the Ninja class has a bow that turns into scythes. There are no shields for the swordsman class, even though some enemies use shields. The mage class uses wrist mounted guns, even though the icon is a wand for some reason. 2: The movement system is fun. The grappling hook and gliding combo is fun to use and easy to get used too. The only complaint I have is that once you leave the starting island, there are VERY few grappling points so your world movement is super limited. Also, your stamina not increasing as you level is kinda sad. 3: Loot makes the crafting pointless. You get so much loot that you have to clear your inventory of it and the shops are pretty hard to use and not intuitive. You also get very little money from selling loot, so there really isn't a point in picking it up other than getting materials for quests and crafting. 4: The crafting is rough. The amount of materials needed for crafting is a bit high for what you get, and the crafting minigame for weapon and armor making is unreasonably hard to get right because of the world scale making the smitthing table hard to reach over properly. Plus you can only the gear for the area the anvil is in. All of which you get from drops anyway and there is no stat difference between dropped gear and crafted. On the bright side, the upgrading method is super simple. 5: Only one cosmetic set of armor and its a premium item. Overall, I am not a fan of most of the armor or outfits in the game just from a stylistic choice. I would love the ability to make different armors into cosmetics, similar to how Destiny 2 does it where you do a little quest and convert a piece into a cosmetic armor. 6: Player Housing is unreasonable. The price to expand your apartment is insane for the amount you earn in game. Plus the apartment lacks any customization other than moving preset pieces around. Also, showing the ENTIRE possible apartment from the start, just with colored floating light walls to tell you that you don't own that yet is really discouraging. I get from a story point, having an apartment in "The Last City" makes sense, but having a small house out in the wilds would be cool as an option too. 7: Combat. I have been playing with a Quest 2, and the controls through Steam Link do not work out every well. Using the button to open the menu or the minimap on your hand activates a skill. So you end up opening menus in combat or accidentally teleporting when trying to look at your menus, so you have to teleport and open the menu when it is cooling down to be able to use it right. Other than that, the bow physics, sword physics and magic shooting is pretty fun. Especially when you pair it with the movement system. 8:The Classes are not the best. There are three, each of which have at most 2 play styles.Overall, there should be at least one more class to help balance it. Replacing the mounted guns on Mages with wands or staffs and then making an actual gunslinger type to do sniping would make way more sense. You have Blademaster for close range, mid-range and close ranger Ninja and then mid range healing Mage but no long ranger attacks. The Bow and the Mageguns are incredibly hard to use at a longer distance as they move slowly and the NPCS can be a bit glitchy in movements. - Blademaster= Duel sword only. You can try fighting with one sword instead of two, but it is still one handed and you can do VERY little in terms of damage or blocking. There is a slight blocking mechanic for swords that can deflect arrows and some melee attacks. Its not a very popular class because of its weak solo viability. - Ninja= You get a bow that turns into duel wielding hand scythes. The bow is fairly good for ranged attacks if you shoot fast, but the slowness of the arrows means you cannot rely on leading a shot for a super accurate attack at a good distance. The scythes have no skills or combos to them, so they are more of a last ditch effort to take out a close enemy when you have no arrows left. Also, you auto equip 2 weapons, which means you end up with two bows, one on each hip when you only need and can only use one of them. It is the most popular class, but mainly because of the community not playing cooperatively most of the time and it being the best for solo play. - Mage= Least popular class. You get two gauntlets to use. Each level's gauntlet has a different magic attack, so you can mix and match but you outlevel the usefulness of each one fast once the new one is unlocked. Personally, I put my multitool on my left hip and set it to the Ax so I could use it as a melee weapon in my left hand and used my right hand to do mid-range attacks. The projectiles for the mage are unreasonably slow which make it a skill to be able to hit consistently in a fight. Oh and the teleport is way too short range to be effective against anything. 9: The weekly reset is a pain in every single inch of my ass. You have to build up facilities each week to be able to use them in the starting area and it is a group effort for everyone on the server, but it gets wiped each week. So there are people that do not log in until they think it is done so they do not have to sit there and grind to get something up for everyone to use. 10: Character customization is trash. Sad to say, but there is no difference in body type at all. Hair styles are super limited and you really only control colors. You get one face and no options. Admittedly, you do not see your character once you start playing, but you see other peoples and the NPCs and Players all having the same face and same 9 hair styles makes the game feel repetitive. Plus it kills any individuality you wanna have. 11. The community is kinda rough. Pretty much everyone in game is antisocial and keeps their mics off as weal as deafening other players. They just mostly ignore each other unless they are friends IRL. There are also a like of shriekers in game. Kids ranging from 7-14 that scream at the top of their lungs constantly and demand attention or try to harass other players. Pretty sure they are the reason most people walk around deafened and muted because engaging with them is a nightmare. I honestly log out when I run into one of them just to avoid dealing with that. 12. Voices are weak. There are only a handful of voiced characters and they have next to no lines for them. Kills the immersion for most people, me included. I understand that it would be hard and costly to make it fully voiced, but hearing "OVER HERE AGENT" screamed at me in the same voice every 45 seconds has caused some kind of trauma. 13: So, I have a list of things I would LIKE to see added to the game that I think would improve quality of life and player experience. - More weapon options. Shields, Axes, Staffs, Guns. Just give each class one more option for playing. Give the blademasters shields or great swords that use two hands. Give the Ninjas duel pistols that convert into daggers. Give the mages wands. - Vehicles and mounts. Add in hoverbikes or hoverboards. Witches brooms. Anything like that for flying. Or give horses or land based mounts to help get across the huge areas where you do not have grappling points. - Character Customization. Triple the number of hair styles available and add in at least 15 faces for each body type. Then add in body sliders or options so you can customize your build. I am now out of characters.
