Zeliria Sanctuary is a VN out of this world. Developed by a Russian team but presented not only in the Russian language. Does a medium-length sci-fi story appeal to you? Maxx, a special forces soldier, is about to enter a gate into the unknown. Unknown that could result in his instant death. Fortunately, it does not, and he teleports to an alien world full of danger and wonder. Also, an annoying 'hamster'. From now on, it is up to the player to decide how the rest of this story unfolds, and believe me, paths are numerous. You can be nice or distant, romantic or not, kill or spare; all is left for you to decide. All your choices will lead you to one of several endings. If you feel like me, you'll try to catch them all, but it ain't an easy task. Fortunately, there is a handy guide you can use to reach all destinies; I managed to get all but two endings on my own, hence 40h+ of game time. The English translation was done nicely. I did not struggle to understand the story, and I enjoyed it most of the time. It was not a groundbreaking or surprising read, but the pacing and presentation were good. Character development and world-building are revealed through different routes, so to gain a better grasp of what is going on, I recommend trying many different paths. Some information is presented through short comic sections and an in-game encyclopaedia (press F4 to access). As mentioned above, I found Maxx's otherworldly adventure sufficiently amusing to spend more than 40h on it. Certainly not the best title I've read, but an above-average one in my book, for sure. The art of this title is a bit uneven. Character sprites during dialogues look decent and present a good number of poses and emotions. Also, plenty of even side characters also have their own sprites, which is rather uncommon among non-Japanese VN. However, characters presented on CGs can look a bit off in terms of proportions or poses; they can look way worse or better on them too. As the credits show, multiple artists worked on CGs, which explains the varying quality. Since this is an eroge, there are a few h-scenes here and there. Honestly, not that many, and all very short and mostly vanilla. Don't expect much here, but it is not a selling point for this product. The Nutaku version of this game is much more explicit, but I only played the Steam version, so I can't say much more on this topic. As for the backgrounds, there are no complaints here. There is a good variety and amount of detail. Additionally, some backgrounds contain simple animation effects. Overall, for an indie VN, visuals are above average. The quality of the music is possibly even better than art, in my opinion. I really enjoyed listening to several tracks—some ominous, some jolly. A decent variation of tunes underscores the emotional impact of events aptly. Occasional ambient tracks can replace music as well. Just one section of this game remained silent for some reason (it could be a bug). On top of all the above, there are three actual songs sung in Russian. Cool. Moreover, the vast majority of characters have their own voice acting, even several supporting ones. Not something you see among indie VNs. Bravo. No bugs encountered. Well, the silence during one section of the game could be a bug. To conclude, this is a very decent sci-fi VN from a Russian team. Nice, medium-length story, above-average art, and quality music. One of the better non-Japanese VNs I played, and one I can recommend easily: 7.2/10
