It really can't be compared to any ninja gaiden game at all, it's seriously not as good as any game of the franchise, but it's hard to complain about something I got for like 2$. It's not super fun, or challenging, but it is definetly a pretty funny game, Yaiba is actually a pretty hillarious guy if you see him as a product of his time, the zombies are silly, haviung lots of scenes of them doing dumb little stuff and thats kinda adorable. The game being abnormally silly and unserious doesn't make sense when compared to all other ninja gaiden games, but as its own thing, its appreciated, you getting to see a product of its time filled with silly dumb jokes about sex or whatever is kinda cool in its own way, despite game issues. So yeah, just buy it on a very very VERY cheap sale, and only if you really want to try it out. It's not a good game, but it's also far from worthless I guess.

was waiting for this game to go on sale and it finally did for $3, and i would say despite some definite flaws it's worth it for that price definitely. this game acts as a spin-off to the regular ninja gaiden game and it has a cool, comical art style, and some pretty decent combat despite the weird combat. the music is a definite strong point and it acts well for this game. it also has some funny moments, as well as badass ones. it feels lackluster in comparison to the regular ninja gaiden games, but if you ignore that fact and play it as it's own thing...you will find enjoyment in it. there is only 7 missions, they are pretty much arena based and it's short and packed with some laughs and decent combat. pick it up on a steep sale, but i wouldn't say it's worth $30.

YAIBA: NINJA GAIDEN Z pros: //fast game with modern day graphics with easy controls that moves from location A to B to C and so on //good amount of action and special effects cons: //a lot of difficult battles/boss battles //a lot of overpowered enemies //some enemies have unfair attacks //a lot of difficult platforming //could use more health drops //losing battles are a grindfest (going back to checkpoints will respawn a lot of enemies) //some times too many enemies spawn in battle //some lack of directions/instructions //awful camera angles (no user control) //some difficult quick time events (button pressing) //sometimes too many traps/hazard areas //good game Personal Suggested Purchase Price: $1.99 Or Less During Sale

This is not Ninja Gaiden. It's basically a series of combat arenas, in which you will face waves of enemies, many of whom have ranged attacks. In a typical battle, you will dodge around with the A button, do some crowd control with flail attacks, counter the stronger enemies with RB, and maybe perform some stronger combos on special enemies and bosses. When enemies are sufficiently weakened, you can execute them with LT, which grants health pickups, and, on certain special enemies, a weapon inspired by said enemy with limited durability. It will take you a while to figure out what the best combos are, and to build up muscle memory, during which process you are likely to die repeatedly, but after which you won't. Combat is broken up by ninja platforming sequences, which require you to input specific commands in order to traverse a series of obstacles. I found these sections to be responsive and fun, I think in part because you can see the obstacles approaching as Yaiba runs, jumps, and grapples through the environment, so the whole process feels much more natural than in a conventional QTE sequence. The game's short narrative can be hard to follow. The comic panel style cutscenes are very brief, and the action zips about between a lot of different location with barely a word of explanation. I think this is an attempt at replicating the kind of writing found in old comic books, which are a bit like that, but it can be somewhat disorienting. This game can be brutally hard if you're not prepared to counter the enemies' attacks. Yes, the humour is puerile; that could be a plus or a minus depending on your preferences. Yes, the camera is deliberately programmed to zoom out when you are facing many enemies, which is fine and appropriate until you forget which speck you are, or until it decides to cut off enemies at the edge of the screen because they are so far away, but typically it is fine. Ultimately, what is here is mostly very good, provided you are among the game's intended constituency.

The reviews had me worried but I genuinely enjoyed this game! It was a solid action game with a fair amount of humor and silliness. The biggest complaint I had seen from other reviews was around the "platforming" sections. The QTE-style of platforming is not ideal but it was still fun and failing them doesn't set you back more than a few seconds. They felt like little puzzles to break up the action. I only have one negative thing to say about the game and unfortunately it's the ENTIRE final boss fight. (No spoilers, but) it's about a 15 minute fight, if you know the correct attack to use at the correct time. About 10 minutes of those 15 is just waiting around for the right animation to play or the right enemy to spawn. The unskippable dialog doesn't help either. Overall, it was worth my time and money.
