XCOM 2 with the mod 'Long War of the Chosen' is a grand monolith of a complex of turn-based game, with incredible strategic depth this is a theorycrafters dream. If you've never played before, I recommend jumping straight in with one the below LWOTC collections (on the easiest difficulty) and expect to have your ass handed to you for a few hundred hours in the most entertaining way. Mod Jam Collection: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2370003018 The 'Alternative Mod Launcher' is essential: https://github.com/X2CommunityCore/xcom2-launcher Or you can use the 'Work in Progress' (perfectly stable and balanced) successor to Mod Jam; Ted Jam: https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=3310020642

Im an old man that lost the ability to sit down and play games without loosing interest. This one though, Ive really become fond of. Even though its exciting in its way you can lean back and control almost all of it with only the mouse and when the family comes by to disturb you nothing will happen while you attend to them. If you're playing XCOM 2 without the DLC, which is still an excellent game with a great story, I recommend installing these mods which greatly improve the Quality of Life, sometimes importing features present in the DLC. [*]No Rank Up Throttling: Removes the limit that prevents soldiers from ranking up multiple times after a single mission, even though they earned enough Kills / XP. [*]Show Enemies on Mission Planning: This mod shows the enemy types and quantity that have been detected by the Shadow Chamber in the Mission Planning screen. It saves you from having to remember it or to go back to the Geo screen to examine the expected enemies. It will only show the information if you have the Shadow Chamber constructed. [*]Upgrade Reminder: Adds icons to soldiers in the squad loadout screen if there are available weapon or PCS upgrades and that soldier has available slots for these items. I am a bear of very little brain and usually forget to actually use the stuff I find on missions. If you do too, this might be for you. [*]ShowMeTheSkills: Shows soldiers perks in the squad selection menu, no more hide and seek to find that one grenadier whom AWC gave serial AND phantom. Also capable of displaying your soldier stat on the same screen without clutering the U.I too bad. [*]Free Camera Rotation: Enables free camera rotation. [*]Rogue Class Mod + Long War SMG Pack: Inspired by the Scout from Long War and a new Ghost archetype, previously unseen in XCom. [*]All Soldiers Gain XP: This mod gives soldiers in the barracks a small amount of XP after each mission. [*]More Maps Pack [Non WOTC]: This mod adds new level plots, parcels and pcp's to the map pool for greater variation in level layouts! [*]Stop Wasting My Time: Speeds up the game by removing pointless pauses and other time-wasters. All changes are purely cosmetic. [*]Gotcha (Flank Preview Evolved): Gotcha expands on XCOM 2's Line Of Sight indicator, adding the ability to anticipate if a move will flank an enemy, if they are visible through squadsight, and when mission objectives will be in view to either hack or shoot at. [*]Show Health Values: Shows the value of HP next to the cover icon, no more counting sectopod's HP. [*]Overwatch All/Others: Adds the ability to put all/other units with action points on Overwatch. [*]Evac All: This mod adds an "Evac All" ability to soldier ability bars when they are in an active evac zone. Clicking this button will evac all soldiers currently in the evac zone instead of needing to click the evac button on each individual soldier. [*]Long War Leader Pack: This mod adds a development path for XCOM soldiers in the Guerrilla Training School, allowing them to train special perks that benefit the entire squad. But only one leader at a time can go on a mission, so be careful whom you select for the training! [*]Blackmarket Usage: Displays possible usage of items on the blackmarket sell screen. No more wondering whether you still need Advent Trooper Corpses.

Assaulted the Assassin's stronghold 4 months into the game. Send only the best of the best, armed with the best equipment, some of it manufactured on the spot. Two of the six are Franklin Clinton and the Scout from TF2. They're a level 2 bonded pair. The others are Jane Kelly, Dragunova, and my highest ranking sniper and grenadier. Clear first base with almost no issue. Boss fight commences, Several people are on middling health but Franklin's still got 2 medpac uses (I should've made him medic from the start tbh I've got too many hybrid builds) Double codex flanking her. Ah shit, here we go again. Hit crucial shot on her with sniper, lose sniper. Scout's hurt bad, Franklin's down one medpac. Dragunova nearly gets got by her. No more medpacs. Codex are long gone but high level ADVENT summons are making my life hell. B*tch goes down, cue healing phase. Decide most of my forces are close enough to the sarcophagus to deal lethal damage to it before she fully heals. Commit like a motherf*cker. Grenadier eats it. Dodged bullets left and right to chunk that thing. Ran out of luck. Dragunova bonded with that grenadier. Goes ballistic and kills one of the priests hiding in the backline. Most people are just barely holding on by the time it's done. Most people, except Jane. 3 of the 4 ADVENT goons are history. Boss respawns at 80% health. It begins. She immediately cuts Franklin down. He's bleeding out. Scout doesn't even have time to react. Last priest has him mind controlled. Can't land a shot on the priest. Scout kamikazes Dragunova with a plasma grenade. It's just Jane. Jane blows the brains out of the priest. Survives every attack from the Assassin. It's a battle of attrition. Finally 12 gauge her back to Hell with 2 health to spare. Mfw they come back and it's just Jane limping weakly to the front, with nobody behind her. She's been promoted to Colonel. Make badass propaganda poster of her following the promotion. With her fellows dead, she's easily the highest ranking soldier left in my barracks. Memorialize each of the 5 fallen soldiers. Write 'Remember The Fallen 5!' on every memorial poster. Mfw I see the poster plastered on a nearby building during next operation. [The aliens when they learn that the indomitable human spirit wasn't just a myth]

I absolutely love this game, I accidentally played it for over 100 hours in the first week of getting it. I dream of XCOM every now and then, it is like my brain is roleplaying XCOM levels as I sleep. I need help. Great game!
