Tara discovers that she and her grandmother are witches and sheās quickly initiated into the coven of Fairhaven. She simultaneously learns farming and witchcraft, as mysterious things happen and the normie townspeople begin to grow suspicious. Info ā¢ The game autosaves throughout gameplay. No manual save. ā¢ When Tara runs out of energy, nothing bad happens, she just canāt take any more actions until she rests or consumes food or a potion to restore energy. ā¢ The player has until 2 AM to get Tara to bed. If not, at 2 AM, Tara is teleported to bed, the next day progresses, and she wakes up with half of her energy restored at 11:30 AM. ā¢ Seasons change when the player chooses for them to (via story explanation). ā¢ Gameplay entails: farming, animal caretaking, fishing, foraging, woodcutting, mining, cooking, several types of crafting, NPC affection increasing, and fulfilling requests. No combat. ā¢ There are seven romance/marriage candidates: 2 women, 4 men, and 1 non-binary character. Divorce is possible. No children. ā¢ No character customization. However, Taraās clothes can be changed later in the game. ā¢ Fast travel via magic broom is unlocked about half way through the gameās story. The map isnāt really that big though, so itās more for convenience than a necessary game mechanic. ā¢ No product quality tiers, but there are variations of products. For example, after obtaining magic animals, they produce magical variations of milk, eggs, and wool. ā¢ Controller worked perfectly for the entire game. Mouse/keyboard was never needed. Praises ā¢ There are 14 different languages available for the game, which is a lot for an indie game. ā¢ Tara adopts the stray cat that wanders around town once her affection is raised by one heart. ā¢ Thereās a story quest involving possessing oneās familiar, which is the cat, so Tara gets to run around as the cute kitty, then gets the spell to do so for her own needs, so the player can do it again later for funsies. Itās so f*cking cute to run around as a cat! Too cute. ā¢ Farm animals are absolutely adorable! I love their animations too. So f*cking cute! The chickens and ducks move so accurately to real life. The ducks also get to swim in the pond. ā¢ One of type of crafting is clothing and there are a lot of designs to unlock. Tara looks cute in most anything, but there were a lot of outfits that were my favorites. ā¢ Once Tara is married, she and her spouse can go on dates, and there are cute, little animations of affection that can be done anytime. ā¢ I like the cinematic character and camera positioning while talking to NPCs. Itās great for screenshots. ā¢ Good diversity. Some NPC heritages: Native American, Persian, Japanese, South African (black), Indian, Hawaiian (native), Latinx, and Romani. Several queer characters and one non-binary character. A few thicc characters. ā¢ A lot of farming sims involve the protagonist inheriting the farm after the grandparent has died or moved away, but in this story, Tara is actually moving to the farm to take care of her grandmother . I absolutely love that. I wish more stories depicted elderly caregiving. (As someone who has worked in a caregiver role, it really saddens me just how many people abandon their parents and grandparents at nursing homes and act like theyāre burdens to be forgotten about.) ā¢ Encourages the acceptance of diversity and to reject the fear of the unknown. A bit clichĆ©, but still a good message. ā¢ A couple of mysteries in the story keeps the player interested, both for year 1 and year 2. ā¢ Lots of side romances between NPCs. Complaints ā¢ Violet isnāt a romanceable character. My pupils probably dilated upon seeing this character, because dat a$$ and dem thighs can barely fit in those jeans she wears and I practically fell in lust right there! Then, the cute face and purple hair is nice too ā¦ like, this is so f*cking unfair. Why put someone so ābooty-liciousā in the game if you didnāt want the players going after her? Sheās single and age appropriate for Tara. I just donāt understand. WHY?!!?! ā¢ There are achievements for marrying each marriage candidate, meaning the player either has to have Tara divorce each one and remarry again and again or replay the game more than once. Either way, that makes 100%-ing the game annoying. ā¢ I wish the game helped the player keep track of all the sidequests that have to do with Angus and Francisās wedding. For example, I went a long time not talking to Juliet because sheās a 13-year-old girl and Iād already maxed out her friendship so I had no reason to talk to her and logically didnāt think sheād be involved in the wedding planning, but it turns out she had a sidequest involving playing music for their wedding. I wouldāve never thought to go find and talk to her. I just happened to walk by her at some point and notice the quest icon show up next to her. There are several other people that have sidequests related to their wedding, but the quest log doesnāt tell the player who to talk to at all, so they have to be happened upon. It was just a lot of wasted time because of the lack of direction. ā¢ The only way to get the ingredient āanimal fatā is to murder a farm animal. I mean, I get that in real life animals are slaughtered for our food, but like, the devs made them look super f*cking cute with expressive eyes and sh*t in this game. Not cool. Itās not cool to require the player to kill the animals to get this ingredient that is needed for several things that are needed to get achievements. ā¢ [(Maybe) Bug Report] Mistletoe doesnāt show up until the second year, despite getting an incantation recipe that calls for it during the first year. I swept the forest (where Shelby lives) nearly everyday during winter during the first year to find some. Also, checked Periās shop, when it was open, but it didnāt show up for sale until first yearās winter ended and second year started. I have no idea if this is intentional or a bug. ā¢ [(Probably) Bug Report] It seems like rainbow and golden egg spawns are significantly reduced if the player isnāt using the feeding robot. Before the robot: a rainbow or golden egg once every week or so. (And yes, I was feeding the 2 magic chickens and 2 magic ducks daily, along with their favorite food.) After the robot: 2 rainbow eggs, 2 golden eggs every single day. Seems like thereās definitely something off in the coding there. I really liked how story-driven the game was. A lot of farming sims are disappointingly weak on that aspect. While NPCs often have stock dialogue, there are lots of times when they have new, unique dialogue after certain events happen, which is fairly often. It didnāt feel like I was just chasing after milestones (like a lot of farming sims have you do), but actually following a story and the gameplay aspects were just a part of it.
