It's pretty fun, but I hate the predatory card mode that is in every single "sports" game. The MyFaction mode is garbage, requiring constant internet access to use even against the CPU and the game pushes it on you every time you load the game. Outside of achievements I will never touch the mode. The gameplay is decent but if you were around for the SvR games or even before them with Smackdown, you have already experienced the best wrestling games. I don't watch it anymore and haven't since around 2007-2009 when it started to be tame and lame. The wrestling in this game is pretty sluggish, I prefer a more arcade like approach, there's nothing fun about having your wrestler lay on the floor for 10 seconds because a small breeze brushed his chin. Also a lot of the "wrestlers" in this game are LAUGHABLE it has to be one of, if not the worst rosters ever. Selecting a character takes forever since you have to scroll a list, surely there are better ways? I haven't played all the modes yet; I'm leaving this review as more of a first impressions, hopefully the game grows on me. To conclude; this was my first wrestling game in over 15 years and I won't be getting another if this is how they are going to be, back to emulating the good ones. HOWEVER despite my whining in this review it IS fun, not as good or fun as the games of old but I am going to recommend it, if you are going to buy it, please pick it up on the sales, where it's 50% off (DLC editions) - still a little too expensive in my opinion but it is, what it is. 3/5 Thanks for reading and if you do get it I hope you enjoy it, definitely check out Smackdown: Here comes the pain - that's the best in my opinion.

As someone who hasn't played a WWE game since WWE '12, I like and would recommend it. It has decent mechanics, a good CAS and CAA system. And the best part, you can beat up Logan Paul without getting arrested. Oh, the MyRise stories aren't bad either.

Short version: After some slider tweaks, this is now my new favorite wrestling game, taking the spot from 2k19. The core in-ring gameplay is the best it has ever been in the hands of VC, and all the little changes add up to something much greater. It doesn't translate to video. Just play it. Long version: My first wrestling game memories are playing WWF Warzone and Attitude. Then onto the AKI N64 games, and further into the Smackdown series on the PSX. I've been playing the Smackdown games since the first entry, though I always prefered the N64 AKI titles. I took a brief hiatus from the series after SvR 2011 and picked it up again with 2k19 here on Steam. When I came back with 2k19 my mind was blown. No more grapples, no more silly spots jumping from the Smackdown fist only for them to get up two seconds later (I always hated that as a kid...spots don't mean anything if they don't do damage)--I loved it. My new favorite wrestling game. I kept up with the series through every entry afterwards. I bought the bomb that was 2k20, though I didn't get it until after most of the bugs had been fixed. Then they took a break, and hit us with 2k22. I liked 2k22. I didn't love it, but it was fun. The new style was a lot more arcadey, but that's what people like so I just tried to have fun with it. 2k23 was more of the same. I expected 2k24 to continue that trend, but I was very wrong. After watching tons of gameplay videos I thought I knew what I was getting into. I jacked up the difficulty to Legend like I always do, and went into a match. I got my butt handed to me. "Why does this feel so different? It didn't LOOK that different from the videos," I thought. The AI has been turned up a notch. They are more aggressive and slightly smarter. They actually use their finishers, and tend to do more moves and sequences that make sense as opposed to the previous titles. Is it perfect? No, but it's a lot better. Everything feels heavier, and just a hair slower--in a good way. I feel like I am actually beating the hell out of someone. There's weight to the movement, and a smoothness to the animation that wasn't there previously. I'm having banger after banger of a match, and it's amazing. I haven't felt this way about the in-ring gameplay of a wrestling game since I was a kid. It can be brutal, bloody, dramatic--all the best parts of great wrestling stories and matches. Thanks to the "tag debuff" limit on breaking up pins, I can finally play tag matches for the first time in several years. The selling is better. Matches feel like they have some drama and life to them. The blood is better. The animations are better. The irish whip system is better than it has ever been, with reversals as well as the ability to kind of "queue up" a rebound move early, meaning headbutting the CPU is a lot less frequent than it used to be. Everything about the in-ring experience is so much better, and actually so unexpected, that it sells the game alone for me personally. They put in serious work and polish, and I love it. This is the perfect mix between sim and arcade style. All I need now are rope break 5-counts, crawling to the ropes during submissions, and chain wrestling. But honestly I'm having so much fun, I don't even care about that stuff either. Showcase was meh. Some awkward moments and silent bits where there should be narration to fill the gap. Some of the objectives are very time consuming, let alone some of the longer cutscenes. I'm only a few hours into MyRise, but it seems more entertaining for me so far than last year. I'd call it an improvement. Haven't played Universe Mode or MyGM yet. I'm assuming not much has changed with the former, and I'm no expert on the latter. Technically speaking, the load times on my NVME are super quick. Quickest they've been in the series recently across the board from what I can tell. I had one crash to desktop when trying to delete a CC CAW, but that was before the first patch. No other issues on my end. I didn't cover everything the game has to offer, but for me the most important part is in the ring, and I think they've knocked it out of the park. It's a 9/10 for me, and my new favorite wrestling title.
