Feb. 2025
Pros - Updated car physics. WRC 10 laid a foundation stepping away from pure arcade physics and Generations took the next big step towards an actual rally sim somewhat reminiscent of stock RBR. It’s still not RBR or NGP but the devs took steps in the right direction. - Re-recorded engine sounds that are pretty realistic and not over the top. - New global lighting system. Came as a trade off for some local lighting effects and shadows in previous game but generally looks better than WRC 10. - Actual historic, unmodified, cars with realistic stats and unique quirks like turbo lag. - Career structure and overall WRC season experience. - New locations made for 10 and Generations look stunning, Croatia, historic Sanremo, Corsica, Greece and Monte Carlo stages to name a few. - Good colour grading, no more film bleach bypass like effect, just clean saturated colours. - Car roster covers almost all the iconic cars in WRC history. - Co-driver online mode looks fun. Mixed - New audio mix. This time around they went for a toned down somewhat more realistic audio with headphones being the target. I personally had no problem with it but I understand it's not to everyone's taste. - To compensate for inherently dark rendering the devs overexposed this instalment causing weird greyish silver cast on some tracks. - Mandatory in game Vsync for the game engine to work properly. I still don’t understand why devs let people turn it off if it makes the game wonky or at least don’t warn about it. - FIA censorship. Weather you like it or not but Martini Racing will remain a rally legend. Not really devs fault, for example Gran Turismo 4 had it completely redacted which looked 10 times worse. But don’t worry bookies and fast food in other sports are totally fine. Cons - Bugs varying from minor like occasional twitchy replay camera to pretty severe like still broken engine sound on Lancia Delta Evoluzione. - Nonlinear throttle response on all cars. Maybe it is realistic but surely not all cars react to throttle in the same way. - Very strange car setup. - Still pretty poor environmental effects like tree physics, water splashes, gravel etc. - New lighting system doesn’t work particularly well with some old locations occasionally causing inconsistent visuals and FPS drops. - Pretty high system requirements. - Cockpit steering wheel visually locked to something like 400 degrees on all cars. There’s no hand animation past that point basically. - Compatibility issues with certain sim racing peripherals like steering wheels and handbrakes. - Mandatory Kyloton account to create and use custom liveries. - Collision physics still looks weird. - Citroen C4 as a paid DLC. It’s not about the price but about the decision to lock such car behind a paywall. - Music is a downgrade comparing to WRC 10. Overall it’s pretty sad that so many great and well needed changes were rushed into their last attempt. The game has a wasted potential to become an actually good rally sim if only the devs would have finished it or at least patched. Making it an annual title was a big mistake. I’d say maybe they’ll get another shot at this but after seeing the new TDU and MXGP I really doubt it.

KT Racing’s Last WRC Experience Rise to all the challenges of the most comprehensive, realistic and demanding rally simulation ever developed. Dive into the heart of the action and drive the cars from the 2022 WRC championship, including the new hybrid models. [url=https://steamcommunity.com/groups/ATReviews]Follow My Review Group Here! About Description 💾Graphics The graphics are pretty solid for the most part. I will say the stages are incredibly detailed and are filled with life. The car models also look pretty solid, although I do feel like the reflections are kinda bad. Also the Racing UI is clean. The issues I have are the lighting and shadows. Now granted the night stages look really dark, but the lighting/shadows for the environment (trees, bushes, etc) don’t look the best and have aged pretty fast. It’s not super distracting, especially going fast on a stage, but still is noticeable. 🎮Gameplay WRC Generations has (in my opinion) some really solid physics! And I’m gonna even say they are better than EA WRC. I have confidence in what the car is doing here, handbrake feels really vital in many hairpins, and you do feel the difference in many surfaces. It’s all just a better and smoother experience in my opinion. Cars act how you would think they do. It’s not perfect by any means, but I had a much better time here then EA WRC. I was even able to put in some top 10 runs as well. WRC Generations features the 2022 WRC season. You can play with up to 37 cars, 49 Official Teams, and an incredible 22 Rally locations! Let’s talk about physics again for a little. The surfaces all just feel right. The tarmac gives great grip depending on conditions, the gravel and mud all feel different from each other as well. It’s all so well crafted, speaking of well crafted, the stages are near perfect! I’d say they are probably the best on Steam handsdown, and just a tier below the legendary Richard Burns Rally Stages. Damage models are pretty good too! Also the tire management is amazing in career and seasons mode. Another amazing feature that’s new is the livery sharing system. Now you can share and download liveries in the menu. It’s easy, fast, and intuitive (Unlike the horrible monetized EA WRC system). I do have some gripes though. For example the disappearance of historical rallies and career mode. This was an amazing feature in WRC 10 because it was both educational and fun to go through. Now granted it was the 50th anniversary during the games release so maybe I’ll let that slide. Another complaint is the pacenotes. Now yes, they do sound good and easy to understand. The problem I have with the pacenotes is they are really inaccurate in some stages and can throw you off. Another issue I have is that you can’t use custom liveries in career mode when you make your own team. They only work on quick play, which in my opinion is really dumb. Overall, the gameplay is amazing with some minor issues. 📜Story Just like its predecessor WRC 10, the campaign mode is actually really fun. Team management is polished in my opinion, and the calendar system is really easy to understand and straightforward. You can start off as a Junior WRC, and win the championship to have an opportunity to become a WRC 2 or WRC driver. You also have a perk tree you can gradually improve through the season which will improve your team's abilities. The progression is there, even though it may be a bit time consuming. If you don’t want to waste too much time on starting at the beginning, you can always start as a WRC driver so don’t worry. Also if you don’t want to do the Team management, you can just play Season’s mode which allows you to play the championship without the tedious Team management. 🕛Playtime Playtime is pretty good, especially with the engaging career mode. I’d say you can easily sink up to 30+ hours into this game, especially since you have tons of stages to play on. Sadly you can’t create your own championship (like EA WRC), so that may take aways some of the needed replayability. 🎧Sound The sound design is pretty lackluster. Cars sound bad in the interior cam, but the exterior cam they sound pretty good, but nowhere near the level of detail as EA WRC. The pacenotes also sound fine with no issues. After playing EA WRC, this is the games biggest weakness by far. Now granted, it’s not game breaking or unbearable, but it could have been so much better. ❗Bugs❗ I encountered no bugs from my experience. I do feel like this game is well polished when it comes to technical issues like bugs. You will have no issues here! 🔅Performance I’d have to say that performance is kinda weak here. I was just barely scratching above 60 fps in this game on High settings. Some stages do run much better than others (obviously), but overall this game needed some more improvement in the optimization. Luckily I had zero stutters and crashes so that’s a big plus. ✔️Pro’s [*]Good livery editor [*]In depth career mode [*]Test map (great for practice) [*]Incredible detail in rally stages [*]Many fun and challenging stages [*]Official cars/teams from the 2022 season [*]Can publish and install community liveries [*]Able to drive (and design via livery) classic rally cars [*]Good tuning (Hybrid mapping, suspension, tire options, gearbox, etc) [*]Physics feel consistent, fun, and challenging (gravel feels loose and tarmac feels grippy) ❌Con’s [*]Visuals are a mix bag [*]Sound design is not great [*]Pacenotes in some stages are not accurate [*]Can’t use your custom livery for career mode 🏆Rating 8/10 I’d say this game is probably worth the full price if you are a Rally fan. If not, probably wait for a sale. 🔗Conclusion WRC Generations is the last WRC title made by KT Racing, and it’s sad to see them go. After playing EA WRC and how lifeless and monetized it feels, It just rubs salt on the wound for fans of the KT Racing WRC games. If you want a “sim” rally experience, then get this or WRC 10. It’s fun, and has amazing stages, career mode, and cars. You won’t be disappointed. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1953520/WRC_Generations__The_FIA_WRC_Official_Game/ Specs for Review: [*]GPU: RTX 3080 (Laptop GPU) [*]CPU: Intel Core i7-11800H 4.6 GHz [*]RAM: 32GB Ram

WRC Generations is a good rally game. A great one, even. But a lack of innovation and genuinely new content makes it the least essential entry in the series for some time. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3367045244

Great Rally game overall. WRC1 cars handling seems pretty good. Less front grip than EA Sports WRC, which sounds more accurate with the weight those cars have. Tarmac is really nicely simulated. Gravel is pretty decent also and snow is passable, but a bit too high grip on snow/ice (with studded tires) it feels like. Stages are pretty fun to drive. Lots of countries also. Wish there were more stages though. Compared to EA WRC game, in this you can actually drive into fences and bushes that will break then as well as you can change the tires individually for each wheel as well as the 2 backup tires, which you cannot do on EA WRC where fences are all just concrete objects that don't move etc. Now the only major problem with this game is Sound. Its pretty bad. Co driver lines are mixed badly, sometimes the voice changes on some tracks, like some corners were recorded in different studio by different actor. Car sounds are also pretty bad, but passable. Gravel hitting the car is barely even heard on the cockpit view and the sound reverb is also quite weak. Plays well on Linux with proton. No stability issues or performance problems. Online Events are still active to this day. This game also doesn't have kernel level malware like EA Sports WRC does. Works great with my Logitech G920 and Arduino Handbreak. Ryzen 5800X3D, RTX 3080, Arch Linux 2560x1440 Settings maxed, Reflex enabled, Motion blur off, DLSS off 100-140 FPS 8/10

If you're using a controller, use these settings for the left and right stick: -4 sensitivity 10 deadzone Rescale ON Run a few tracks to get used to the response time and enjoy playing with the chase cam. Crisp graphics, season mode without employee babysitting, decent replays and great tracks. Welcome to one of the best rally experiences on PC. Worth it at full price.
