Worth every penny, plus the Workshop community is amazing. Challenging, fun, some issues with the UI, and I think I got soft-locked at one point (probably the mods). Some of the color schemes are kind of headache/nausea inducing but hey, that's just my personal taste Reminds me of games I played on my friends computer ages ago, great creepy atmosphere, and yes it's basically a horror manga turned into a pc game and it's freakin' amazing! Many pluses. few flaws

The Good: + Fantastic events and exploration the first few times through + Branching paths lead to different endings for many investigations + Secret endings, achievement unlocks and multiple ancient evil options give a lot of replay-ability and customization + Amazing fusion of Japanese horror and Lovecraft-ian horror, many events leave a visual and psychological impact the first couple times you see them +- I really loved the soundtrack. Retro-horror game music with track changeover from exploration to a combat version of said music works incredibly well for this style of game. The Meh: -Challenges are almost entirely RNG-based. Good preparation will almost always win you a playthrough on Normal difficulty, but you're really just at the mercy of RNG for harder difficulties and challenge modes -Many of the items in the game are worthless. You'll aim to get a couple specific items on each play depending on your character and ignore the rest. The fact that you have to buy 95% of them from a shop (i.e., you'll never see them as random drops from enemies/events) gives zero incentive to ever use the inferior items -Usually you want characters to have a mix of strengths and weaknesses so you can try different strategies. Unfortunately, the only difference between most characters is "which base stat is highest so I can go buy a weapon that matches it." There are a couple exceptions that start with an item or spell capability that changes how you approach their run, but the overlying strategy across all of them is about the same. -- Special shout out to challenge modes that turn certain characters into "Oops! All Weaknesses!" - The interface for exploration and especially combat takes some... getting used to. You won't even realize all of the options you have at your disposal because many of them are sub-menus that you have to click into. Even starting a custom run for the first time or two isn't intuitive because there's a lot of option clutter. Not to mention certain options only exist on the menu during specific encounters... Overall: A very good pick-up for the price. It's fun, replay-able, and has a great atmosphere. Moderate learning curve on how the interface works because the creators wanted to maximize options and customize-ability, you may want to find a guide or video of someone playing it to build some familiarity with where everything is.

Short version: Because World Of Horror made modding beginner-friendly, I recommend getting the game mostly as a form of creative exercise. How I first heard about the game: I've first heard about this game from a Vinesauce stream from when this was in early access. What to expect: From my experience, it plays out like a point n' click adventure roguelike where you have to solve five mysteries to save the world from an OLD GOD. Encounters are like shuffled "cards" in a deck, and most outcomes are determined by dice rolls and skill checks, some are combat encounters. You do unlock some some more stuff though the game's achievement system, some being more mysteries. Modding: My favourite part of this game, because World Of Horror had made it easy enough for anyone without coding experience to add their own characters, encounters, enemies, and mysteries. The game comes with example templates and instructions for them. I had some fun just making my own custom encounters and characters for the game, it's good for practicing art, writing, and creative ideas in general. Flaws: -While the game encourages modding, it doesn't have a Steam Workshop at the time this was written. If you want to install mods, you'll need to find them on other websites. -As far as I know, there's no way to make custom OLD GODs, items, curses, injuries, or allies. -Random encounters feel a bit samey, and might need something more dynamic like critical fail/critical success outcomes, or something more interactive like puzzle minigames. -The "save the world" ending feels repetitive, and doesn't fit the themes of most of the OLD GODs at all. I wish that you would go to a more appropriate place to defeat them, like a museum or a spider-infested cave instead of the lighthouse every playthough. I hope my review helps the developer as much as it helps you decide if you want this game or not.
