Jan. 2025
This game so far it's an insane level up in terms of quality in many aspects compared to the first Wizard of Legend, I'm really, really having fun with it and enjoying the new upgrades to spells, but it's lacking enough content so that the first game still calls to me while trying this new game. Strenghts: - The game currently looks fantastic and it flows amazingly - I'm liking the character designs and voice acting - More bosses in between levels is fun - Different upgrades for spells is amazing, such as being able to hold multiple signature arcana basically or variations to standard or basic spells - I love that the purple portal holds multiple challenges mid-runs, same with the wizard NPC challenges, even more variety to these would be fun - Fun gameplay and combat very familiar to the first game Weaknesses: - Spell Variety. I think one of the main things that will make the game feel more complete will always be more variety to spells, which this game still has some space for. I LOVE the spell upgrade mechanic of this game, since it adds more spells basically by making already existing ones a bit different, but I fear this might delay the development of both new spells and the return of spells from the first game. - Relic Variety. More relics for more wacky builds will always be fun. I think adding more relics that interact with different elements at the same time is a fun addition to the game, I'd like to see more of them but since they are very specific, I would maybe like to reroll or refresh the store at some cost in case I am not going for that specific build. Some ideas could be more relics that interact with specific debuffs like slow, maybe a return to poison, more mono-element builds relics. At the moment I find myself always prioritizing getting spells rather than relics, but I feel that more relics could make specific builds centered on different aspects like dodging, projectiles, summons, melee or debuffs more viable and fun. - Character depth. The game holds new characters with great visuals but that's all there is to them. I understand if the game leans heavily on gameplay rather than on lore or narrative, but more interactions between NPCs such as them talking to you mid trial could make the game more fun (already in the game), or maybe finding them talking to each other at the lobby. Tho again if the game wants to focus on gameplay I wouldn't know how much to focus on this. - Limited content. Even if there are multiple bosses per run there's still only 2 stages so far. Level boss variety could also be fun but that doesn't hold high priority at this early stage of the game. (With the Sky Citadel Update, that'd be 3 stages and one more final boss and miniboss) TLDR: Wizard of Legend 2 so far is the first game on steroids, very engaging combat and fun gameplay except it still lacks content and variety which is what makes the first game so enjoyable. This game is still great fun in this state so I am looking forward for new spells and upgrades to try out, So far props to the dev team! Keep it up and thank you! EDIT: The original devs from WoL do get some money from this game as well, but be sure to try the first game if you haven't. Even if WoL2 can feel like WoL on steroids in many general qualities, it only shares part of the essence from the original (so far, and I hope they keep listening to feedback), it's not an upgraded version of the first one all around, so by all means give the first one a try as well.

Someone needs to clear the air here because these reviews are extremely disapointing and biased... NO! This game DID NOT copy Hades; Hades is a great game, but does not own the genre. This game is more like the original Wizard of Legend (which btw, is older than Hades) than it is like Hades. Agree, the new art style is similar, but that's all that I see and I don't think it's a bad thing. I'm hoping the overall reviews on this will go up but that's only going to happen if people stop unjustifiably comparing this work to Hades...it's not the only roguelike game. YES! It is a good game...so far. Since it's early access, I'm anticipating more content and will gladly exercise some patience for that, but I expected that going in. Great work so far devs, keep up the good work!

You'll notice a lot of folks down voting this game... but if you look closely, the massive majority of these are for one of two reasons: "it's not as good as the first one" or "they changed it to be more like Hades and now I hate it!" On one hand, those folks are correct, the first game (released over half a decade ago) has way more content, has its mechanics refined to a razor's edge, and was unlike any other game of its time. That said, if you judge this game on its own merits...the game is super fun! The game play feels tighter and faster than the first and the camera is positioned slightly differently, giving it the Hades "dash and whack" feel...and since when is that a bad thing!? The art style has also changed from pixel art to a colorful 2.5d art style which many folks prefer despite the naysayers. The colors and environments really pop. In addition, the game has quite a bit of content even for this early in EA: it's got at least 3 biomes (with 5 or so zones a piece), a ton of each of the arcana (your various moves for which you can mix and match), a lot of relics (accessories), and a bunch of meta progression that wasn't in the first game (custom difficulty up and down via turning on buffs and debuffs), which will keep you playing once it gets its hooks in you for quite some time even now. There are also a ton of interesting random elements, to the point where 5 hours in, I'm seeing something I've never seen before, every single run. If you were a huge fan of the first game, you'll want to wait a bit till the game irons out some of it's quirks (i.e. no clear way to expand the minimap, your momentum is preserved even when using a fast travel point, fewer relics and arcana than the first game, and some missing mechanics)...but let's be real, you've either bought this already, or decided to boycot it for some weird reason because they mixed up the style of the game to keep up with modern sensibilities and it doesn't have as much content as a game released 6 years ago with frequent updates along the way. Otherwise, if you're a fan of Hades, Ember Knights, World of Ink, Gungeon, or the Binding of Issac, give this a shot! In it's current state, the game is still a blast, and it's literally only going to get better!

From someone who played WoL for 20 Hours on PC, and another 50 Hours on Switch, this game feels like a damn good sequel. The gameplay itself is similar enough to feel like the first game, but different enough that it doesn't feel like a copy & paste. I was able to beat the current content in the game in just under 5 hours. I have not unlocked all of the arcana or held items, but at the moment, you can't really get into deep runs as there's only 8 or 9 stages max per run. This game is going to be great once it's finished, and as a WoL fan I'm super excited. If you want more than 5-10 hours of content, wait until the full game drops. But if you liked WoL, and want a taste of what WoL2 will be like, buy it now and just be a lil more patient as more content drops. ONLY MAJOR BEEF Online multiplayer can be laggy and is pretty rough for the player who isn't hosting. Rubber banding, hitboxes being desynced, and many many bugs make it a lil tricky to play. We both experimented with hosting/joining and we both found the same results. Bugs we encountered: Teleporters not working properly. Have to step off multiple times to get it to work. Gold being desynced in multiplayer. Being told I have no inventory space when I only have 4 items. (We had to have the other person drop an item, and then I pick it up since they had max items) (Game saw that one of us had 10 items, so neither could pick up anything else I believe). Hub interactions for connected player were a bit wonky. Pet Dog would start getting attacked mid-cutscene during boss fights.

This isn't a negative review, but I can't recommend it in it's current state right now. Esp at a £20 price tag The bosses are unfathomably easy compared to the first game, it took me hours dying to the first boss in the first game before i got past it, and immediately died on the next floor, because difficulty actually scaled pretty well, this is not the case here, particularly what caught my eye was the lightening arcana boss, to a normie like me that dude is infuriating to deal with esp without full health, but in this game since they give you path predictions for attacks, it's kind of a piss take, there's 2 biomes, 4 levels per, so 8 floors and you clear the game, and then nothing, the lack of arcana and relics is underwhelming considering just how many we're in the first one, but this is very early access so content amount isn't a concern for me atm, albeit even underwhelming to a lax standard. I only encountered one bug through my whole session, which was with the teleporters, it wouldn't let me pick a teleport point, unless I backed out of the menu and went back in, and also arcana/relics dropping over teleports makes them completely useless without fannying around dropping a relic somewhere else, to have space to pick that one up, go swap it then go back to the teleporter, some boundaries for items around interactables would be nice (happens over shop keepers too). Other than that, the hades style art upgrade, monster diversity and the SICK ass soundtrack makes me very hopeful for the future of this game once it gets fully fleshed out and they start adding end game rewards like secret arcana like in the first game. Current state - 6/10 Potential - 10/10 Like? - A lot Recommend? - No, unless discounted by 50% If you are adept at these styles of games, this will play more like a demo than an early access teaser for whats to come. Enjoyable regardless!
