One of the most deliciously frustrating games I've ever played. While incredibly difficult, I found myself dedicated to this game when I was in high school a decade ago. Every loss made me want to try harder. It kept bringing me back. The movement in this game just feels good. It's tight yet fluid. Combat is hard as hell, but over time you get better and better. I would highly recommend this game to anyone seeking a serious challenge. If you're more of a casual/cozy gamer this game might not be for you

It's been a good 8 years since I got this game and since then I have played it on and off merely because of how much I like it. It's hard to remember because by now my hands have memorized every instance of danger in this game but back then this game felt utterly brutal in my first playthrough, specially bosses like Electran, Amethyst, Ancient Constructs and Supreme Je'Oul and levels like Sinister Grotto, The Chambers and Path of Decay. This game takes every opportunity to seem impossible and turns that onto you making you think you don't have enough jumps or even making you doubt your own dexterity, you will need a lot of dexterity for this game my hands don't forget the pain this game caused on them 8 years ago. I recommend this game to anyone who is already familiar with dexterity heavy games like I wanna be the guy, I wanna be the boshy (who Grynsoft is the developer of), Marrow, Spelunky, TowerClimb, Rain World, From Software games or Touhou (or any shmup for that matter). When it comes to designs, characters really pop-tf-out in this game, Vi specially if you decide to collect every customizable item in the game but that requires getting into doing the bosses flawless which, considering the percentages of completion on those achievements, is no easy feat. Gameplay feels really tight, you have complete control over Vi's movement with barely any drift, but she feels kinda tall so most of the time you'll probably get damaged for not considering her height, or not considering how much you can achieve with 2 jumps and a flutter of her wings. The bosses have specific cycles of attack with some variations between them, for example the Twin Orcs close to the endgame take turns jumping onto the platform you're on and always do the exact same attacks in the exact same time, but at the end of the cycle they have 3 options of attacking you at the same time. These cycles make the bosses manageable but the more random parts there are to them the more difficult they tend to be, such as round 2 with Myugi. As of the time of this review I'm going through another run for this game, to see if this time beating Supreme Je'Oul actually counts to the steam achievements. 10/10, would replay even in my deathbed.

Wings of Vi is a platforming game for those who want to push themselfs further within this type of game. The entire game never feels repetitive, and the bosses are very enjoyable to learn and to master. If games like Ori and Super Meat Boy are too hard for you, just run away from it. Overall, a great game which is quite unique even for today.

This game is extremely fucking difficult - by far the hardest game I have ever played. The platforming is soul crushing and the bosses are extremely hard. It is fun though - the art, secrets and collectibles are especially great, and a lot of the bosses have nice ideas behind them. My main issue with the game is that it is a bit janky at times. It's not bad design neccessarily, but poorly programmed. Things that should be consistent aren't always consistent, for example the movement patterns of the final boss, which sometimes covers half the arena when it changes position. If you enjoy extremely hard games, then you might still not enjoy this game. The platforming is way, way harder and more unfair than the final chapters of Celeste for example, but it's usually in short bursts per obstacle. The bosses are unforgiving and complex, but only a few are frustrating due to jank and most are fun. As I said, I had fun overall, and I'm glad that I decided to play and finish this game. But there are definitely low points where it felt like a struggle - I took a lot of breaks before coming back to finish it. You probably already know if you would enjoy a game like this. Most players should stay away, but I'm glad I played it.

A game full of extremely satisfying combat and great pixel art. When entering a boss, it often starts out completely overwhelming you, feeling utterly impossible; but as you learn the attacks and behavior the boss becomes more and more consistent until it feels perfectly reasonable to do it entirely hitless. If you do not enjoy this kind of learning this game is probably not for you, but if you do, I highly recommend giving it a try.
