Generally, it is the mixture of different mass culture pieces. The game seems to take the best allusions: - Limbo, Inside and Little Nightmares from gaming industry; - George Orwell from literature; - classic composers like Wagner and Rimsky-Korsakov from music.

White shadows is a nice little game. Fairly short game with a few easy puzzles. Plays like "LIMBO" or "Little Nightmares". The most important part in this game is the message. It is not just about racism, discrimination and capitalism. It goes a bit deeper if you look closely. Very reminiscent of the Youtube films "Happiness (2017)" and "MAN (2012)" by Steve Cutts. I also liked how they incorporated classical music ;) Neat little game but overpriced, Get on discount!

The story is very on the nose and the platforming and puzzle gameplay is rather barebones. I don't think that's the point of the game though. To me, these serve as vehicles to get immersed in this dystopian but visually stunning world that you navigate through. The visuals absolutely beautiful with great interplay of light and dark, lots of depth and an amazingly detailed environment, the navigation of which feels both very imposing and unnerving. The story and the gameplay are neccesary for you to feel involved with the world, but ultimately I think the visuals and the atmosphere is what matters here. I loved every bit of it and I don't think it would have really improved my experience if the raw gameplay was more in-depth

Honestly, I don't know what to say. I've completed the game twice, completed all the achievements, and it seems like a normal game. But I can't shake the feeling that something is wrong. In the game, we play as a raven who learns to fly only towards the end of the game, and even that doesn't last long. The graphics and style are cool, but some places look disgusting, especially the faces and butts of the characters in the background. The game is quite small, but when I was playing it, it seemed like I had been playing for 10 hours instead of 5. But this is probably not because the game is boring, although it really is. The game lacks character sounds and normal ambient sounds. It turns out that I'm playing a game where the sounds only work once every 3 minutes. The controls are also not very responsive, and you don't feel your character. Overall, my opinion of the game is vague, and it's probably an acquired taste. But most of all, I liked the Steam cards, which paid for the game almost 5 times over. So I don't regret it and give the game a plus.

Have you ever asked yourself, "What if Limbo but birds? What if Inside but racism?" That's basically this game, another entry in the "cinematic platformer" genre, a mechanics-light but atmosphere heavy world where you press right a bunch and jump every now and then. "White Shadows" is a gorgeous, moody, wonderfully realized place that I recommend for vibes mostly. This is a triumph of scale and art design. Unless you were born literally 27 minutes ago, this game is a METAPHOR. And the metaphor is BAD STUFF BAD. It's so glaringly unsubtle that I felt like I was being made fun of at times, or that it's almost a parody of those types of messages? If it's sincere, there's no subtext, it's just text. It's only near the end that you get a perplexing complication on the world's conceits. What is prophecy? What is fate in a mechanical world? What is personal agency when you were born in a machine? Interesting stuff that only get brought up in the last moments, when it should have been the inciting incident. The game is 2 hours at most, a brief and punchy trek through this bizarre animal factory world. I'd pick it up if you're looking for a moody, depressing evening.
