pros ✅ a well-written and intriguing paranormal ghost story about a teenager who searches for her missing father and, in her quest, encounters and helps many ghosts, all of whom have tragic pasts. You can learn these ghosts' rich, tragic stories via numerous intricately written notes ✅ spooky environments and atmosphere ✅ mechanic to swap between human and spirit forms to solve quests so cool ✅ nice looking graphics and character models ✅ well integrated and fun to solve puzzles ✅ the apt background music perfectly fits the game's general atmosphere ✅ there are steam achievements and cards cons ❌maze-like and repetitive level design can be tedious and distracting after a while ❌there is no map with shortcuts, which causes too much backtracking and confusion about where or which way to go. ❌there are no voiceovers ❌It's not a lengthy game Overall, this is an enjoyable puzzle game with an intriguing story.

Apparently I bought this game on November 23, 2018, alongside Monster Prom. Given that it's been nearly 6 years, I can't honestly say that I remember why I bought it, but presumably because it looked neat and was heavily discounted. (On that note, at time of writing it's on sale for a measly €0.95.) Also, I'm pretty sure I've had it installed since July of 2020, and finally took the time to give it a spin after over 4 years because I looked over what unplayed, installed games felt seasonal for a Halloween Month theme. So here we are. It's no masterpiece, of course, but it feels like it's worth it if you want to play what's essentially a pretty cute (but occasionally gruesome) ghost story adventure game about a girl trying to find her dad in a cursed mansion haunted by the sins of an old colonizer who hurt everyone around him. The sprite work, at least for the protagonist, is really pretty and charming but the animated FMV sequences betray the game's obviously limited budget. It's up to you to decide at what price point you think a 3.5-ish hour story (including reading log entries) is worth it. I hear that dollar per hour value is really important to some folks. Bonus points to the developers for letting you load your finished save in a state where you can easily roam around and pick up whatever collectibles or achievements you're missing.

One of my new favourites so far this year! Great story about Elena, who can astral project and she's trying to find her lost father and she has to solve a series of mysteries that set you to complete tasks, collect items, meet new characters to move along the story and for her to manipulate these objects both in corporal form and astral form was cool. I, thoroughly enjoyed the cut scenes, the graphics designs of the characters, settings and sound effects which I found unique. I did like the touch of lore of Colonial America - Native American vibes throughout and how that affected Elena and her journey as Elena collects a number of notes and journal entries that further the player's understanding of the story of the victimization of Elena’s Native American ancestors at the hands of Willows and his band of settlers. What to improve on this game? The jump scares can be predictable, but I still found this game enjoyable. Though so much more could have been expanded, I don't know where to begin. Though I liked how the notes you collect throughout the game give alittle more insight to the side characters' actions or motivations leading up to their death was a nice touch. Definitely would recommend this to others, it's a fun little game, if you like alittle bit of story, some puzzles, ghost stories then give this a crack :)

Well... It took me 8 years... But I finally beat this game! Mind you, it took me a few hours. This game is... I probably would've been more impressed with it a few years back. Eh. It's not really bad, just... Well for one it was never optimized properly for PCs. So your computers will overheat or attempt to fly around the room. My PC really hates it when I read the Diary as well... Which is strange... But okay. Two... I feel there should've been more to the story. It just feels alright enough to pass time? Three... It's a lot to go back and forth and there is also a maze. And when you operate without a map... Most people will go insane trying to figure stuff out. Also that dog and... THOSE ARE NOT SPIDERS! THOSE ARE FACE HUGGERS! I KNEW IT!!! A mutation of face huggers?! I don't see anything overly impressive about the game, but it isn't super rage inducing either... Cousin of "Boo" is adorable and some sort of entertainment was had... Just felt really, super bad for my PC!!! >.> Thanks...! :>

Whispering Willows is a horror-adventure puzzle game for teenagers. You play as Elena, a girl searching for her missing father in a creepy mansion. Elena can astral project and talk to ghosts to solve puzzles and uncover the mansion's secrets. The game has beautiful hand-drawn art, a suspenseful soundtrack, and a story about loss, regret, and letting go. While the story can be predictable and some parts repetitive, the puzzles are well-designed and the overall experience is haunting and beautiful. If you or your teen are looking for a unique and thought-provoking adventure, Whispering Willows is worth checking out.
