i had a great time. the director's cut is worse than the original though. after playing through both, i've experienced more bugs in the director's cut. while some extra voice lines and graphical updates are nice, they really messed up the menu system, and why does every vendor have infinite scrap? its the apocalypse but every merchant has an endless supply of currency? silly.
This is a must have for fans of post-nuclear apocalyptic games and especially of Fallout; for those who don't know, the team that created the wasteland series would eventually create the original Fallout, and worked on Fallout: New Vegas. The Desert Rangers of Wasteland are the same Desert Rangers of the NCR (Fallout 2) and Arizona Rangers from New Vegas. Combat is character initiative turn based. Beginning where the original Wasteland left off (though the date has been changed to coincide with the Fallout series; the original took place in 2016), you create a team of 4 highly customizable Rangers (with up to 3 NPC characters able to join you) to investigate a mysterious broadcast as well as to search for two other missing Rangers. The adventure begins in the Arizona wasteland at base Cochise, and eventually travels to the mutant jungles of Los Angeles, California. Finding equipment to overcome walls of radiation is a huge part of the plot-line. You'll fight raider militias, mutants (animal and human), robots, and a cyborg cult. Nostalgic humor, reminiscent of Fallout's Wild Wasteland perk, is found throughout (you may need a knowledge of late 80's/early 90's American computer culture to understand all of it). If you can't pick a lock, kick the door down or blast it open, but make sure to check for alarms first. Be forewarned, some quests require you to choose between saving one or the other settlement, person, etc. so not everyone gets a happy ending. Just don't side with the cyborgs, it was a mistake and a waste of time. You don't get what was promised. The Director's cut features improved graphics, a few new skills, and some new equipment compared to the basic game. The Digital Deluxe Edition also comes with the original Wasteland, the original Bard's Tale Trilogy and Bard's Tale (XBox)
