War on the Sea is overall a great game with endless scenarios for battles and campaigns. You have the ability to create your own battles, or play pre-made ones. There are infinite modding opportunities, my personal favorites are The Tokyo Express and Operation Magazine, all of which are pinned int he modding section of the community. There are mods that even add extra campaigns incase you get bored of the base 2 campaigns. The current modded ones are full Pacific war, ABDACOM (start of the pacific war), Indian Ocean campaign, and a Mediterranean. The best part is they are all available in the modding tab of the community hub. This game is great, I recommend it.

It’s not too often I rate a game. However this one has absolutely required a review. This game does not hold your hand and has a n “old school” feel to it. The game can be modded which adds a ton of replayability. This is for all intents and purposes a slow burn type game. It has taken atleast 30+ hours in my first campaign just to begin to watch the war escalate. But in that time. I’ve tried to save ships/ lost patrols. Watched my battleships get torpedoed and blew up a bunch of enemy ships as well including a Yamato class battleship. Which absolutely destroyed two of my destroyers in that engagement. But hunting that ship down. Positioning my aircraft. Damaging the Yamato with torpedoes and bombs just to slow her down and let my fleet catch up to her was very enjoyable and highly engaging. That ensuing fight was brutal and I loved every moment, even watching the Yamato sink as my ships repair their damage. Which I always try to do because you can mitigate a lot of damage and possibly keep those ships in play in a “hot zone”. Would I recommend this game: yes Is it for everyone: no Who is this game for? This game is for people that love ww2 strategy and prefer to have the ability of a hands on approach to each unit if required. Each decision you make can make or break that unit and can cost you significantly. Caring about your resources and units becomes natural and wanting to preserve every point to get that perfect battle group is essential. If you like highly detailed games and do not mind a slow escalation in the beginning of a battle. This game is certainly for you. Plus you can mod this and I would like to see this game done in unreal engine 5. With all of that said. This game for me atleast is a solid 8.75/10 With mods 9.0+/10

This is a love/hate relationship. From time to time I have to stop playing this game, bc. the cringe factor is just too high. And then the next time - there is an epic sea battle, which makes you sit at the edge of your chair and forget that's now 2:00 in the morning and you have to work tomorrow... PRO: - Duke it out with Battleships, Cruisers and Destroyers. Watch the Yamato burn from bow to stern, until a magazine explosion rips through her hull and sends her down to the cold depth. - Dev still tries to solve some of it's problems. - Campaign is fun for the first half (as long as you accept that the AI is not bound by the same rules as you are) - Highly modable CON: - UI and control not good. Example: You are unable to modify a waypoint. - If you want to score bomb hits, bc. this one target really has to go - you have to micromanage or otherwise hope for the RNG-gods. - ASW is pain. There is no preset formation for an effective ASW picket line. (But you can turn enemy subs off via game options) - Every helmsman seems to be drunk and has massive problems with station keeping and/or enjoys a "Costa Concordia" from time to time => With the last beta 1.08 from 12/23 this seems to be somewhat fixed :-) - AI cheats in Campaign mode.
