I am a fan of the stealth tactics genre: Shadow Tactics, Desperados 3, Shadow Gambit, Sumerian Six, Commandos 2, Partisans 1941, Commandos 3. This is an excellent game. It is more reminiscent of Commandos because of the World War II setting. The sketch animations which make up the cut scenes are excellent, and put you in the mood for the setting. The dialogue between the different characters that you control are well written, and creates a complex narrative of a not often told perspective of World War 2 from a Polish point of view. You can feel the passion from the Polish Devs for the source material. The environments are detailed with excellent music and sound for the genre. Lots of visual spectacle. War Mongrels has adapted much of the new mechanics and programmed the enemy AI much like Mimimi Games has done it for Shadow Tactics / Desperados 3. You can almost pause the game to assign actions to your characters like Mimimi's shadow mode. There is also a combat mode, allowing for a kind of loud, gunslinger approach, which I didn't find worked that well. These kind of stealth tactics games are better played with careful tactical execution. In many of the missions, you can avoid stealth play altogether, and head into connected manholes that you can hide inside, and you can then cheese by gunning down a target, and then running into the manholes, wait to the alarm to end, and then rinse and repeat. This is a polished game with few bugs in 2024 compared to its buggy release years ago. I really don't want to complain about War Mongrels because it is a game I really enjoyed. This is one of the most underrated video games that I have played in many years. If I had suggestions, it would be: (1) The pistols are small, and the button press to pick up little things on the map was a little clucky. (2) It took 20 minutes to figure out how to command my characters using an XBOX controller. There could have been a better tutorial, which makes it clear how to select one vs more than one character, and how to then select actions/tools use for the selected character. (3) The excellent dialogue trips in response to characters meeting, but is easily disrupted and lost forever if you move the characters accidentally away from each other while there is chatting going on between your characters. If you like stealth tactic games like Mimimi Games' Shadow Tactics / Desperados 3, you will enjoy this title !!!

Devs from hatred just casually making one of the best commando-like together with Desperados and Shadow Tactics with S+ tier voice acting and cutscenes.

Good game, but still lacks quality compared to Mimimi I consider Destructive Creations as the spiritual successor of Mimimi. War Mongrels implements almost all the core concepts of games like Commandos, Desperados, Shadow Tactics and Shadow Gambit. Even better that some aspects try to be more realistic: in Mimimi games, the characters have super-human features, like super strength (Mugen and Hector) and very fast hook ability, never missing the shot (Hayato, Yuki, and Aiko). In this game, using Lukas' hook is a slow task, aiming to the higher level, making sure the rope is tight, climbing in athletic but reasonable speed, and then getting the hook back. Not all the characters can carry bodies. Not all the characters are very good at killing: in Mimimi, everybody is a ninja, and the concept of the "Ninja Cowboy" from John Cooper amuses me, while Greta and Joachim can only kill by guns, and in theory don't have the Combat Mode (another very good addition, despite the number of situations that it can be used being very limited). The game tries to loosely couple some events with WWII, and this enriches the plot significantly, adding a dark tone that transmits the Zeitgeist perfectly. The narration is great, the story doesn't have big incoherence issues. I really like all the characters. The dialogues between them is a great addition. What really makes this game lose its shine a bit is the bugs. I know that Destructive Creations team already put a significant effort to fix issues since the release, but we are in September 2024 and many bugs still exist, especially from Chapter VI onward. Some of the ones I've experienced: - Getting stuck at stairs because there's a dog underneath; - Houses that appear all of a sudden in the middle of empty spaces; - Walls that are not walls, and enemies can walk and see through them (Chapter VII, where Joachim is); Besides, there are certain cases in the mechanics that are fundamentally bad. For instance, in Combat Mode, depending on a certain amount of shots, the next shot can be just a click of an empty gun, and the character takes a loooong time to reload. This would make sense for non-soldiers, but we are taking about war combatants here: am I missing a "reload" shortcut or something? Every shooting game has it. The great thing about being in 2024 is that games are not static anymore, and can be improved and/or upgraded. I'd ask DC team to come back to the bugs thread and polish this game a little bit. By the way, thanks for adding a very easy way to use the "RTS" key configuration. I played Chapter I with your suggested commands, and it was very confusing.

Overall, it’s a great game to those who love this kind of game… and it also has a combat mode which is a great additional feature. But there are several flaws (for me) that ruin the experience: (-) There’s no option to expand the mini map or see the full map, where you can see all enemies and go to specific location of the map with just a single click. It’s quite a crucial feature for this kind of game because sometimes you want to move your characters to different location like Manfred to area A and Ewald to area B, and you need to check the surrounding area and planning your next action. In this game, the mini map only show a small part of the entire map, that means if you want to check the surround area, you have to manually move your camera around. (-) Full of BUGS - Quick Save/Manual Save Issue: a. Quick Save sometimes failed to save (MW icon on top right corner blinking fast), and then will retry save again after a few second. I realize this after several times I press quick load, it was in a bad and dangerous situation (enemy shooting/alerted). I know I won’t press quick save in that situation. b. There were two times I lost my manual save. At the end of Chapter IV (save disappeared when I press quick save after car explosion), and Chapter VII (randomly disappear) - Graphical issues - Sometimes it’s pretty hard to grab/pick up dead body - This one is game breaking bug and I only able get rid of this bug by playing it on other PC: In Chapter XII, after the cut-scene for helping Rubble… Rubble will enter Combat Mode and there’s no way to quit Rubble’s combat mode.
