TL;DR: This game is fascinating and weird. If you can look past a bit of jank there's a very captivating and interesting game here that's worth a couple of hours just to experience it. I bought and first played this before the Combat Overhaul update and i gotta be honest i really struggled with it. Since i am not really used to playing these sorts of games i struggled a lot and kept dying over and over again and it took me a good 2 hours to get past the first mission and i ultimately quit the game. Now after the overhaul (and the ability to chose easy mode) i gave this game another try and it has been a fascinating ride where i can't seem to stop playing because i want to know what happens next. While the level design struggles at times with jankyness, the combat is quite servicable and has some really cool and well animated and varied takedown animations. So if that turned you off in the past, you should really give it another try. But the real hook about this game is the absolute insanity that's unfolding in front of you in a narrative sense. I don't recall any game I've played where i'd loudly say to myself "Why would you do it like this?". The amount of tonal whiplash from scene to scene in terms of line delivery, background music and subject matter is unlike anything I've seen before. And it kept me enthralled to see what would jump at me next. It's a game that makes me keep playing because i was genuinely interested in what it will happen next, not because of some soulless grind or manipulative design. I want to be clear here, this is not some soulless slop. There is a clear amount of effort and passion that went into this beautiful mess that is visible in many places, with love and attention to detail and the sort of charm you get from someone who really wants to make something special but keeps stumbling over his own feet.

It's such a odd game. performance is much better now after a few patches, but still kinda janky. It's fun but obviously needed more time to cook. This game definitely won't work for some, and rightfully so. But I have a good time with it, even with it's nonsense at times. I'd give this one a 6.5/10

This game is not perfect, and that is why I recommend it. Too many games (especially action games) are so afraid to do anything wrong that they do nothing interesting. This game is not like that. They chose to do some weird stuff and it is kind of janky, but the game is unique and memorable. This game reminds me a lot of WET on the Xbox 360. A slightly off and kind of out of place action game, but if you play it through, you will definitely remember it for a long time to come. 7/10 would recommend.

This is everything I loved about gaming in 2005, except with 4K graphics - and more mini-games. And I really loved gaming in 2005.

In the first couple hours you'll be exposed to horrible audio mixing, combat that waffles between "holy shit that was sick" and "why do I keep dying", anime references, gritty social commentary, bizarre disconnected dialogue, literal anime cutscenes, a crane game, a rhythm game ramen eating contest and a lot of cats. It's weird, it's imperfect, and I love it. You should play this. It's firmly in the "they don't make em' like this anymore" razor's edge of AA jank that rides the line between polished and completely unpolished, but was clearly made with passionate badness. It feels like a PS3/360 game from 2008 that someone forgot to release until last year, and I mean that as definite compliment. You're not wrong if you don't vibe with the game or aren't the kind of person who digs this specific kind of experience. It's a bit like having a taste for B-movies and preferring the honest exuberance that comes from a team wanting to make something cool and not quite getting it right. If you are that kind of person though - yes, you should play this.
