[Updated 1/1/2025] I'm about to be a bit critical, so I'd like to open by saying that I'm recommending this game because it draws inspiration from other games in all the right ways, and is clearly being made with love. This is such an interesting concept, the weapons are really interesting and fun to use, the upgrade system with the bells and stuff is really cool, there's a tonn of immersive polish helping the overall feel of the game, and the general lore gives me a lot of hope for the content that's to come! - To add to this, I've found increasing the toughness and amount of the enemies to be extremely useful, and borderline essential to this game. Definitely play with it as you go if you find that you're too OP! So at about 3 hours into this game, I saw essentially all the content that exists. For a $20 game, that may be a little steep to some, the stupid dollar-an-hour rule wouldn't add up without some serious grinding. So keep that in mind, you'll maybe get 4-10 hours of enjoyment out of this game in its current state, and as with all early-access, you're making a bit of an investment. That being said, I'll probably play this game for longer since the grind has been really fun, since the combat is so epic - so your mileage may vary! Some general feedback/gripes so far: - Sometimes the summoner enemies fail to summon guys, or summon them out of bounds, and then none of them summon anything until you fully close/reopen the game. - Exploration has been cool, but not very rewarding. Climbing tall structures generally doesn't offer any chests, or unique/interesting items. Replaying existing areas doesn't offer any more incentive to explore. - I was really confused in world 2 when I climbed to the top of a tower with a big beacon of light, just to enter a dungeon and immediately leave it? I really hope there's an epic fight planned for this place at some point! Overall the environment looks great though and has lots of interesting nooks and crannies! - There's a lot of stuff in this game that's unintuitive, the main things being: - Item symbiosis - I've been unable to perform this process despite filling the specified conditions (2 fully satiated weapons), and I don't feel like it's clear enough in-game what I even need to do here? - Item lore text - A term glossary feels pretty needed when the lore is this deep and unexplained. I'm sure it will come in time, but right now these terms mean nothing to me, and I have no easy way to learn them. - World objective(s) - If you wander too far, you're warped back into the world being told 'that ain't where the action is' but like, okay, where is the action? why am I here? - How to unlock new powers - I've played for 8 hours and beaten both bosses and still don't have the second row unlocked. - Leveling up - What it actually does other than increase damage? If it only increases damage by a flat rate, I really wish it'd do something cooler. There's a lot of really interesting stuff here though, and I look forward to seeing the content to come! That being said, the first major update will be a great look at the future of this game, and I'll definitely come back to update this review once its out.

Overview: Before reading my review I will admit I adore this game and those similar to it so my opinion may be slightly biased so take my words with a pinch of salt. Voin is exactly what it says on the tin, A power fantasy hack and slash game. The only way I can describe it is an addicting mix of Doom (2016/Eternal) and Ultrakill giving you a game where you cleave through enemies in a immensely satisfying way with bursts of dopamine from loot drops. Without further ado let me talk about the parts of this game that I love. The good: - This is game is absolutely fantastic at a core level, with most aspects of the game being brief but well though-out. - The weapons and other equipment (while limited) are very creative and allow for some very cool synergies especially when you get to the firstborn equipment. - Enemies have unique designs that make them easy to identify even when you are in the middle of combat. - Movement feels extremely smooth without being so quick that it makes you dizzy, the added touch of drawing your weapon causing you to sacrifice some manoeuvrability was a really neat touch that makes the game a bit more immersive. - The abilities we have access to at the moment feel very cathartic to use.My personal favourite being the lighting sting with its wind up and slow motion which makes you feel like a walking Demi-god when you rip through a pack of enemies with it. - The world design is nearly perfect in my opinion, the areas look beautiful with the lighting and day/night cycle adding greatly to how good it looks. The areas themselves are very well though out with enemies, fast travel points, landmarks and secret loot all being placed in a very deliberate and methodical manner which reminds me greatly of the Dark souls games. The Bad: While I've listed this section as "the bad" this is really just small nitpicks and parts of the game that will definitely be addressed in future updates with the Dev communicating with the player-base in a very clear manner using a roadmap. With that in mind take all the point below not as massive flaws in the games design but things that people should likely know before buying. - The game is definitely on the shorter side, even with exploring both maps as much as possible and multiple hours of grinding in order to get all my gear up to first born it only took me about 6 hours before I felt I had run out of things to do. - The enemy variety is overall great but it feels like the game could definitely use some more mini-boss type enemies that appear throughout the areas. - Weapons are in a slightly weird situation where they, at a basic level, have good levels of variety between them but once you start getting into it the synergies, it feels like certain weapons have cool abilities but they almost always want to be used with an extremely fast attacking weapons in order to make their effect viable which limits what you can do when combining certain weapons greatly. - My final little nitpick is the Hub area, don't get me wrong it looks absolutely stunning but the distance between the portals to the different areas and the portals to get to the equipment/level rooms can definitely feel a little grating after a few hours. Conclusion: The game is a great example of why Indie games are always so beloved by the gaming community, The good parts of this game greatly out-weigh the bad parts to me but even if the issues I previously mentioned really ruin the game for you, put it on your wishlist and a give at a few months and I guarantee half my complaints will have literally disappeared completely. I would definitely recommended buying this game if you can even if you only do it to help support a solo-developer with a project that clearly has a great deal of passion being put into it!
