overall i recomend the game it can be quite fun for a space sandbox game but sometimes you ll notice that it is a small project (like some bugs or the camera movement...) still worth the money

Ok, so I recommend it, but just barely. First, I want to mention that playing Void Destroyer 1 is absolutely not required. In fact, I tried it and couldn't bare with the controls so I quit within a couple of hours. In contrast, it's amazing how a few tweaks to the control made a world of difference and thus I was hooked to VD2. And the beginning is quite solid. The first stage of the game in which you pilot a single ship, do a mix of scripted and and non-scripted missions and progress towards bigger ships. Some cracks begin to appear, though. The scripted missions have horrible balance and obscure winning conditions. Without too much spoiler, there is a ship you're supposed to protect and the mission will fail if it dies, but it is scripted to die and you will succeed the mission if you hit another hidden criteria. Another balance issue I found which at first sounds like a feature, but is really a must: there is an option to "tweak the difficulty" by reducing the amount of damage your main ship takes. Turns out the missions are so lopsided that I found the game unplayable unless I increased it to its maximum level. And even then, I almost never completed a mission on my first try. Then the game transitions from a first person ship pilot to a 3rd person fleet manager. The concept is amazing, but the execution pretty bad. I say bad, not horrible, because I have a hard time accomplishing anything I want to do, but it's not flat out impossible. At least every ship in my fleet and every base have a high level of autonomy. And again, while it might seem like a feature, it becomes a failure because I don't know what's going on. Which is a recurring theme. There are way too many systems which conceptually are awesome, but the execution is obscure. And I read the guide, mind you. For instance, bases are largely automated, but there are a few player controlled options like if it should buy are sell some resources. Despite this, I have no idea of the impact changing any of these settings do. In a similar fashion, I had to read a guide on how to make money because I needed 11M to buy the required ship whereas missions only paied in Ks. That's when I learned the importance of trade ships. I was soon flooded with money... until they started to blow up faster than I could replace them. So I started to give them escorts... Until the endgame faction started to appear and there ridiculously overpowered ships obliterated whatever escort I would give. It came to the point where the UPKEEP alone of my escort was HIGHER than the income from the trade ship, and I WOULD STILL LOSE THE CONVOY!!!! And that was the final nail in the coffin for me. TL;DR : lots of cool concept poorly executed; fun early game, horrible end game.

Good game, from a small dev, who has since slowed development due to having a kid. It's worth the asking price, and if you really want more story the DLC is cheap and always on sale

A cell shaded mix between the X series (creating large fleets) and with similar mouse controls to Freelancer, really makes me want to dig out Freelancer and play it again. The positives; + Faction missions, they unlock more rep, ships of that faction and the profitable repair missions (not sure if military missions do) that make hiring a repair ship more than worth it. + You can build your own fleet of fighters, gunships, frigates, etc. or hiring said ships for a while. Good value for the short term, but a waste of credits in the long run, when you can purchase your own ship(s). + Scale-able difficulty, the larger the fleet the more difficult the game becomes, store owned ships or fire the hired wingmen to decrease difficulty + Multiple player styles possible, miner, trader, or combat (default). + Mining ships can also transport cargo, as of this post. + You become a pirate or just threaten ships into paying a "ransom" to earn credibility. + Frequent saves and backup saves, helps if you pick a mission *URGENT* you are not ready for yet. Or fly into a nest of pirates because the ore yield is large in that field. The Neutral; +- Both miner and merchant feel difficult to begin due to the starter ship price. So... why neutral, not bad? +- You can hire a transport or mining vessel and buy goods to haul, or visit an asteroid field for the mining vessal to start attacking asteroids. +- Simplistic trade system, basically just ore, weapons, energy, a few other things. Personally I like lots of trade items even if I won't ever buy or trade it. +- You can self destruct your ships, mainly how it is set up more than the fact you can do it at all. The bad; - The ship launch button, I've hit it a half dozen times after landing by mistake, it just doesn't scream LAUNCH to me. - Occasional crashes, I think I was using too much ram though. *I'm one of those that never closes browser windows, much less tabs* - Docking is canceled if you target anything else after contacting the station to dock, and must be re-requested before docking. Positives Part 2: The Fan Rant Edition + More that I haven't begun like, conquering the factions and their stations for example, repossessing there ships, seriously they shouldn't have missed that ransom payment. . . + Unique ship designs, particularly cargo pods, a cargo pod hold 1000 units of a given resourc. + A fleet tactical mode, that you can use to control your ships RTS style. + Time dilation option it slows time when flying and in tactical mode, increases speed on the travel map.

Shockingly good for the price. Reminds me of a strange cross over between rebel galaxy and Star-point Gemini, but frankly with more and better working features then both of them. Stumbled upon it looking for a space game to play and didn't expect much due to the graphics and the price, pleasantly surprised to find a full fat game underneath. Surprised it's not better known, I think the dev might need to work on his advertising haha.
