tl;dr game gud, sum bugs, could use a Bucky's. The GREAT: -The roguelike loop is tough but fair -co-op seamless at times -ship combat is awesome -once you have that ship build where everything comes together? P U R E - M A G I C. Couple downsides: -Game does tend to lag at times, whether it's a host issue or the server can't comprehend a group playing for more than 20 hours in one session (we did). -Sometimes the character models don't line up with the action their supposed to be doing (sitting position while running for example). Wishlist (even though game's nearly perfect as is): -During the previous Next Fest, a group of us tried a game called Jump Ship which echoed a lot of Void Crew's game design. We got into VC because of it, and while Void Crew's strong points are prominent there's one bit that Jump Ship has over it: boots on the ground activities have a lot more player involvement. You're actually going into bases, clearing out enemies, bombing sites, and so on. Void Crew could have something similar. I'm not saying you have to add a SpaceK-47 to turn into Void of Crew: Future Warfare, but maybe something similar to Sea of Thieves where the crew needs to disembark to solve a multiplayer puzzle. Just something to break up the formula. The addition of boss fights were a great way to have player engagement. - One thing that pilots enjoy just as much as flying is the takeoff and landing of such a craft. The addition of a pit stop to refuel on biomass and restore the ship to max health (for a price equating to the damage inflicted) could be an awesome way to give players a break and have a bit of fun with maneuvering the ship. -Cosmetics for the players is fantastic! A similar system for ships can also help keep players engaged and make their ship feel more personal. Exterior would be fine, interior design would help people constantly on gunner/engi duty have a bit more eyecandy while they're running around. -Pilot seat bobble head.

This game is like if Sea of Thieves and FTL had a baby but none of the sweaty PVP cousins were invited to the baby shower. The gameplay loop is very solid, upgrading the ships feels really good, most of the missions and enemies are well balanced. There are four perk trees that you can spend points in to make your chracter unique. The four trees are Engineer, Pilot, Gunner, and Scavenger, kind of like in DRG. I haven't played solo but it's a blast even with just two people. With a full crew it's absolutely nuts. It's a roguelike, but you can also save your progress on runs to pick them up later. Your friends can drop in at any time with no penalty. Even if your friends have no experience, every extra person is a huge help, so even new gamers can just sit in a turret and contribute a lot!

What is it: Sea of Thieves had a baby with Faster Than Light and it's solely PVE. The Good: -a variety of gameplay mechanics that keep things interesting. Not easy but not too difficult for the most part, it's easy to have fun and it doesn't feel boring. -skill trees to enhance your future run experiences. -a great game to play with friends. -gameplay is simple but unique and challenging. Challenge focuses on balancing between different tasks instead of incredibly difficult, single tasks. -I have only encountered one bug in the first 11 hours of gameplay. The Bad: -has a couple of game modes but only one really seems what the game was made for. -you can only choose between two types of ships and you have fixed loadouts for each with no crossover. -is not well balanced for two people. Single player is surprisingly more playable than with two. -very limited options of what you can do with a ship with less than three people. -very low resource drops for a rogue-like. This needs to be buffed. -basic game mode (pilgrimage) is too short. Needs options for number of stages. 4 (current) feels too little to get involved in a roguelite. The Ugly: -Playing as a pilot feels like you're useless. Autopilot is sad and evading enemy fire is critical but that's all you can do. You don't have weapons to use directly as a pilot except a single-shot payload launcher that needs to be reloaded manually, meaning once you shoot, you need to get out of your seat to reload it if you don't have a crew to help. -most weapons sucks and all encounters are combat related with tons of enemies. -no real variety in gameplay. It's essentially: go here, shoot this thing, grab this thing, leave. -if you run out of ammo and don't have the oddly-rare-dropping resources, too bad. Overall: is it good? Yes! Will you have fun? Probably! Does it need some balancing work? Absolutely, but that doesn't mean it's not fun now.

When playing solo this game is good. When playing with decent randoms its very good. When playing with friends this game is incredible. Only problem: Despite the game having a good amount of content that does not go stale fast, I want more. Of everything. Higher difficulties, more ships and ship layouts, more skills, more components, more enemies, more bosses. In short: more Voidcrew!

I remember playing it a few months ago and not getting hooked, as my friend and I couldn't find our way around the game or understand what we needed to do. After trying it out again here, I'm delighted to see that the game has made a lot of progress. If it continues to evolve like this, it's bound to become a must-have. The asymmetric co-op gameplay is very well developed. Everyone has a specific task that's important to the smooth running of the missions, and communication is an important skill in this game. Even though it may seem repetitive, the missions are still quite varied and don't allow boredom to set in, coupled with the pressure during the combat phases. This pressure is kept in check by the breaks between each mission. The 2-hour sessions fly by in the blink of an eye. Bear in mind that the game is still in development, and the developers seem to be listening to the community as they build their game. It's got all the makings of a great game! :)
