It's really difficult to write a review to this. On one side I love the game for it's positivity towards the LGBTQ+ scene. On the other side I have become frustrated with the game more than once now. This is by no means my first BL VN game, nor is it my first time-management game (the first VN I ever played was called 'True Love' back in the day and yet I find myself struggling with this game. But let's start with the positives: #1 This is by far the most LGBTQ+ positive BL game I have seen coming out of East Asia (Softstar according to Google is a Taiwanese Development Studio). I find the dialogues heart-warming. The gay characters in this know that they are actually gay and don't use the cop out tropes of 'I'm not gay, I just like you' and we can see the struggles they have being accepted by conservative parts of a society. Those struggles are portrayed with respect and there are quite a few characters who support the gay cast in being themselves. The message is clear: 'Love knows no Gender' #2 The Artstyle is really phenomenal. #3 All four main dudes are very lovable. - Now for the negatives though. Things that frustrate me: #1 Repetitive Gameplay. After you have played through the game once you feel satiated by the gameplay. The Voice Drama recording has many mechanics based on luck and you can't really reload until after the Recording sessions are finished and sometimes between recording sessions and the point where you can load again has lots of dialogue in it. #2 The doorbell rings - The characters you meet keep visiting you regularly, but most of the time they have just the same stuff to say that they said at their last visit. It just takes uneccesarily RL time away. Of course your relationship to them gets better during those visits, but they could still have found a better solution for that (like making the point margin you need for the next level of relationship smaller). #3 Controls made for console - I notice that whenever I want to use the items that increase my audio-drama-recording-stats. You first have to buy the items (one by one, unless I missed a way to buy/use multiple items at once), then you have to navigate to the inventory, pick the item you want to use and then you are asked if you really want to use it. And you have to navigate your mouse cursor over there. It's just tedious. Also why would I not want to use items that increase my stats? There is no reason to save the items for later use. #4 Unclear requirements to reach each Boy's Ending - I got through the Junichi Route without problem, but then I got stuck in the Yuki route, not knowing where I went wrong. I then read in a guide that a lovely fellow player provided that I have to bring his favour to 930 and also record his 3rd voice drama by the time June arrives. When I did that I could finish his Route. Now however I'm stuck yet again with Ryousei, with him I have his romance unlocked and his relationship number is at 999, still I never get called to record his 4th voice drama. The game does not give you any feedback about what prerequisite I'm missing. So I'm left wondering, would I have needed to increase the relationship number of another character before a certain point for Ryousei's Route. Would I have needed to unlock a certain one of the non-main characters (William)? Or should I have gone in the field to make audio recordings? I simply don't know what I'm doing wrong. The only feedback the game gives me is not to record the final Audio Drama before finishing Ryousei's 4th audio drama. Thank you game, I can't do that if you don't give me the opportunity to record it. Yeah, that's what's frustrating to me, especially since playing through the game even if you skip what you have already read takes 5 to 7 hours, so if you don't get the ending and have to start over again with gameplay that is not really top-notch that's just not fun. Especially if you don't even know what to do to fix the issue you had with finishing up the relationship in the first place. If there at least would be bad endings for the guys, but whenever you fail you get just the same Solo Ending. NG+ doesn't take over your stats, but it carries over the traits you unlocked for the voice-recording cast that works for Aki. So all in all I love the game in some parts, but I really am frustrated by it, too. I still rate it positive, since it's soooo good when you don't get stuck. If I could give a rating in numbers I'd go to 70% for the game. Best BL game I played is still Dramatical Murder, Best Time Managment Game I played is still Princess Maker 2. Still this game is worth playing if you can be satisfied (like me) alone from its LGBTQ+ positive narrative and the Artwork. Edit: I do have to add that after I wrote the Review the Game was patched. Seemingly not being able to finish Ryousei's Route was a bug of the game. Now that is was fixed I could finish his Route. Now I only have Wesley to go.
