After 100%'ing this game's two play modes, I can't say it didn't hold my attention. The trouble in designing autoshooters is that scaling bonuses have to be carefully balanced, and of the things this game doesn't do particularly well, those bonuses in context can be very underwhelming and lead to dominant play strategies that disregard 80% of the mechanics and options. This is particularly true for Classic Mode, which suffers from multiplier creep from the Minigun + Sniper Rifle combo. That said, even with nearly 110 hours into the game, I don't feel like I fully grasp half of the systems that are present. In a lot of ways, the game is blisteringly fast and agonizingly slow, often with both experiences side by side during the same run of any particular level. The Survivor Mode is easily the stand-out feature, and Classic is definitely more cute to experience than serious to play. The audio baking caused by using UDIO generative AI (or some equivalent) for the credits track also really hurts. I like this game, it's adorable, but it also is what you see on the tin: semi-competently composed first person autoshooting with some mild arena-like gameplay. It fails to really thread the needle on making itself fast paced and instantly enjoyable, but you do get to the point where you can't comprehend what's going on in the game, and more have an idea of the theory of numbers you've weaponized to solve the problem. By the end of this game's Survivor Mode, I was playing the Hercules Run with Sniper Rifles only and one-tapping most bosses in the game. If that sounds like an exploit, it is and isn't, finding out what play experience is intended is kind of hard. I'd have more granular critique but honestly, that's wasted on something that is as unserious as this game. Play it, have some fun, stare into the void of frame-rate chug as the Matrix Shot Miniguns spin up, and if you're willing you can probably 100% it in under 80 hours. It's fine.

The most fresh take on the 'Survivor' genre in a long time, the game is very fun, lots of good quality of life things like autofire. Not to mention, the amount of content on offer is kind of ridiculous. The number of weapons alone is staggering, the different upgrades for each weapon, the synergies, effects, characters, builds, artifacts, constellations, and everything adds up to quite a competent, interesting and not too overwhelming package. The characters are actually difficult to unlock, but meaningfully change your playstyle, as well as offer more unlocks to mill through, while maintaining some permanent upgrades. All the meta progression is great and all- but the real winner is the gameplay. I thought it'd be too easy, but it's actually very challenging. The host of bosses, while similar across runs, make you make quick decisions, prioritize targets, and challenge you to move and navigate the map while keeping tabs on the ever-present stream of enemies. The elites are very cleverly designed, they force you to consider your surroundings as well as the enemy compositions, shields seem very tough to deal with and can ruin an entrenched location, or a powerful spot, which makes you have to relocate, reposition, or use your kit in a clever way. It's a very good mix of churning through hundreds of enemies, while also maintaining a challenge, and never really entering the 'fully mindless' territory that some other 'survivors' style games enter into without using annoying tricks, or ultra-fast enemies, or shooters that are nearly impossible to see through the visual noise. This game is going to have people who try to copy it, but there's a lot of places that a 'vampire survivors' FPS could falter, but this game seems to have cleared every one of those gaps in clever, stylish, and smart ways. I haven't wanted to play a 'survivors' game since 20 minutes till dawn, despite enjoying the formula and trying quite a few since then. This one has staying power, and I would quite highly recommend it.

FPS without a hotbar because you use ALL the weapons at once. Weapons without triggers because everything fires AUTOMATICALLY. You don't survive vampires in this game because you HUNT them. It has the Scorpion King as one of the bosses. It has frantic ADHD music. Lightsabers. Miniguns. Surface-to-Air missile systems. I'm not hyped, you're hyped. What a game.

This game so needs multiplayer. It'd be a great Risk of Rain 2 style co-op. Also Berserker with Aquarius + Pirate Cannons is probably the singular most OP thing ever. Actually INSANE build. SUPER fun

What a first person Vampire survivors would look like. Easy to get into and difficult to master....but it gets easier as you level up your characters. Good to play if you listen to something in the background, like podcasts or youtube videos.
