Gameplay-wise it's nothing special. The game mechanics are mostly a filler, but it's a decent break from the VN part. The story, the world building and the sound - there is absolutely nothing quite like Utawarerumono. It's a one of a kind gem of a series. Chances are you will never find a better story or book, ever.

WARNING: This is game 3 of a series. Play "Prelude to the Fallen" then "Mask of Deception" first. Disclaimer: My 55 hours of playtime represents one complete play through on Normal difficulty, Played entirely on Steam deck. Short Review: This game is the perfect finish to the series, they really went all out. The only reason you should be here is if you completed the other two games in the series. If you did then buy this one as soon as you are able. Taken as a whole: the entire series is a incomparable masterpiece. Go in as blind as you can, I wont spoil anything but don't even read any more of this review. More details, no spoilers: Once again the pacing is just relentless, playing for just an hour or two a night I was always left with some new development or twist or revelation. There's so many plot points that get woven in and resolved properly that the game goes on for like another 10+ hours after any other game would have wrapped up. There's even a whole load of post credits scenes with some major developments. It never felt rushed despite this. Everything is given its proper amount of time. I will say this game on Normal difficulty is the hardest yet. I never had to grind once but there were some crazy difficulty spikes. Sometimes certain characters were only doing like 1-3 damage and I don't fully understand why. All I'm going to say is save before every fight so you can change your roster if needed, use your brain and look at the win/defeat conditions as well as the type advantages. Welp, Gonna be honest here I enjoyed this series immensely. Probably the best JRPG series I have played in 30+ years of gaming. If this was made with Final Fantasy production values it would likely never be surpassed. I am so glad I got to play it and also really sad that its over. I doubt I will find a game that is anywhere as fun and well written as this for a while but, I haven't played Monochrome Mobius yet so lets see...

Not everyday you come across something that is truly special enough to change certain aspects of your life. Even more so, when it's a video game. It would be a disservice to consider this trilogy as anything but that. I was fortunate enough to go through the entirety of the trilogy without getting spoiled and I can confidently say that this is one of my most favourite experiences with any form of media. The final third of Mask of Truth is the stuff dreams are made of. Haku has straight up become my most favourite protagonist. The main cast of Prelude to the Fallen will always have a special place in my heart, but the main cast of both the Mask games will be the new standard against which I will judge a main cast of characters hereon. They truly are special and I deeply mourn the fact that I won't be able to spend my time with them again in the near future. I was beyond satisfied with the ending of the game that managed to provide an excellent conclusion to the protagonists titanic character arc. I couldn't have hoped for a better ending. The final stage/battle is one of the greatest final stages I have played. It's up there with the likes of 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim final stage. Towa Ni is such a precious song, that perfectly complements the overwhelming emotions running throughout the final stage. Many a tears were shed. If White Album 2 didn't manage to convince me about Suara, this trilogy certainly does and there's no Japanese vocalist out there whose songs flood my spotify playlist as much as hers does. I can never hear Kimi ga tame and Koi Yume without tearing up a bit. Nuedori is my most favourite opening song of any game and within a month, I have listened to Rakujitsu no Toki on repeat for over a thousand times. The VA for everyone was top notch, but Haku's is the best voice acting I have seen in a game. The gorgeous artwork of the CGs in this game are second to none, and most of them are going straight into my desktop wallpaper list. As it is always with such memorable stories, I wish I could forget it all and start again from scratch but I am truly grateful for this game which has given me so many wonderful memories, stories, songs and characters to cherish forever. I will never forget this, this joy of having gone through such an epic. Words fail me, in trying to justify the long lasting impact this game is bound to have on me, and I will eagerly look forward to the Aquaplus 30th anniversary next month...hoping, praying that we get even more Utawarerumono content than that was promised. I wish for that, with all my heart.

This is the last game of the Utawarerumono Trilogy and probably the best game in it too This is basically a sequel to Mask of Deception where it left off with a cliff hanger in the first game and basically its the aftermath of what happened in the game (Which i won't go into cause Spoilers) But basically its truly amazing I loved the game and it was a satisfying conclusion IMO and the MC was probably one of my favorites in any Visual novel I ever read. 10/10
