If you enjoy strategic board games, this really simulates that feeling. Although not as sophisticated a game as UofC II, the rather basic AI nevertheless manages to respond well to your moves. In fact it is better at re-establishing its own supply lines and reforming good defensive lines that II sometimes seems capable of. It is also good at exploiting gaps you leave to disrupt your supply lines. It doesn't have the range of units and the useful artillery options that II has though, but is nonetheless a fun game to play even if it feels dated. The simplicity can be enjoyable after playing more complicated games.

This game is amazing in my opinion. Nothing like the second one they released in 2019. Night and day difference here, and if you’re looking to get into the series, I would recommend the first one. For some reason, it’s no longer on the Steam store, but there are other ways to get or download it.

+ Entertaining and great fun + For my taste just enough depth to not be too deep yet it isn't too simple + Graphic style of everything is pleasing + At this point cheap There is no reason not to get it. IMO a nicer experience than the second instalment of this franchise.

Unity of Command II, developed and published by 2x2 Games, is a meticulously crafted turn-based strategy game that delves deep into the complexities of World War II’s Eastern Front. Building on the strengths of its predecessor, this sequel significantly expands its strategic scope by focusing on not only battlefield tactics but also the often-overlooked element of logistics and supply management. The game challenges players to master both the maneuvering of combat units and the critical task of keeping those units well-supplied, offering a rich, multi-layered experience that stands out in the war strategy genre. At the heart of Unity of Command II is its innovative supply system, which adds a realistic and demanding dimension to traditional tactical gameplay. Unlike many strategy games that emphasize only positioning and combat, this title forces players to think about how their forces remain operational. Players must manage supply routes, secure key points to maintain logistical support, and respond to disruptions that can cripple entire offensives. This supply mechanic not only increases the challenge but also injects a genuine sense of realism and urgency into every decision. The dynamic campaign further elevates the experience by providing branching paths and multiple objectives, ensuring that no two playthroughs feel identical. This encourages experimentation and replayability, as players can explore different strategies and consequences based on their choices. Visually, Unity of Command II strikes a balance between clarity and aesthetic appeal. The game’s map is detailed with terrain features that have meaningful impacts on movement and combat effectiveness, such as rivers, forests, and urban areas, all of which require thoughtful consideration when planning attacks or defenses. The user interface is clean, intuitive, and responsive, making complex information accessible without overwhelming the player. Animations are smooth, and unit icons are distinct, helping players quickly assess battlefield conditions and plan accordingly. The attention to detail in presentation ensures that even newcomers to the genre can dive into the game without a steep learning curve, while veterans will appreciate the depth beneath the streamlined surface. The gameplay itself is deeply rewarding. Each turn presents players with critical choices about positioning, engagement, and resource allocation, blending tactical combat with strategic foresight. Headquarters units add another layer of complexity by enabling unit reorganization and resource redistribution, offering strategic flexibility that can turn the tide of battle. The AI presents a formidable challenge, adapting to player tactics and forcing continual reassessment of strategies. This balance between accessibility and depth has been widely praised by the community, with many highlighting the game’s ability to satisfy both casual players and hardcore strategy enthusiasts. Despite its strengths, Unity of Command II is not without minor imperfections. Some players might find the pacing deliberate, as success often depends on careful planning rather than quick reflexes. Additionally, the focus on logistics may initially feel overwhelming to those more accustomed to straightforward tactical combat. However, these elements are integral to the game’s identity and ultimately contribute to its sense of authenticity and immersion. In summary, Unity of Command II is an exceptional strategy game that offers a comprehensive and nuanced portrayal of wartime command. Its blend of tactical combat and logistical management creates a rich, challenging experience that rewards thoughtful play and strategic planning. The game’s polished presentation, coupled with its deep systems and dynamic campaigns, make it a must-play for anyone interested in military history or complex strategy games. It stands as a shining example of how focused design and attention to detail can elevate a war game into something truly special. Rating: 7/10

An enjoyable hex based game that strikes the right balance between simplicity and difficulty. You just need to focus on movements and keeping supply lines open. You don't waste any time getting buried into the individual unit stats or too many mechanics but in exchange you have to often accomplish some fairly aggressive and ambitious mission requirements which means you have to play intelligently and make the absolute most out of every turn. Some of the scenarios are much more difficult than others so if I have one criticism it's that you will get stuck on a specific mission for awhile but then you'll breeze through the next few scenario so it's got a bit of a speed bump progression. It delivers on making you feel like you are in a war room directing massive offensives and campaigns in a very quick, approachable, pick-up and play kind of way. You can take long breaks from this game and easily jump back in without having to relearn much.
