Disclaimer that I've only played the base game, not the DLCs. This is one of those cases where the lack of nuances in Steam reviews gets in the way of a good evaluation. This is a 5.5/10 for me, but I'd find it unfair to give it a negative review. The game is fine, you can solve the 5 cases that come with the base game with relative ease in less than 4 hours and I'd say it's fun for its whole duration. Problem is the real game is not solving the cases, but correctly matching the names with the voices - once you do that, you can brute-force the actual answers to the crimes and that's it. The whole atmosphere of the game tries to convince you that something creepy is or will happen, but without much substance. You finish the game with a feeling of "that's it?". Also, the achievements don't make much sense - why would I torture myself by not using the fast-forward option in a 13-minute clip I've been listening to for the 4th time? I've found other detective games, such as Return of the Obra Dinn and The Case of the Golden Idol, way more enjoyable. Either way, Unheard still deserves some respect for trying - and partially succeding - to give a new approach to the genre. If you're looking for some quick detective fun, this game will do it. I'd recommend to only buy it on a sale tho.

As someone who loves detective and puzzle games, Unheard - Voices of Crime immediately caught my attention. The game offers a unique experience, blending mystery-solving with an audio-based detective mechanic. You play as a detective who pieces together the story entirely through sound. Essentially, you are a fly on the wall, listening to conversations and environmental noises to reconstruct the events leading up to a crime. Each level presents two main objectives: matching voices to characters and answering key questions about the case. You move around the crime scene on a virtual map, where the audio changes based on your location. This setup requires replaying the audio clip multiple times to gather all the necessary information. The other characters are represented as dotted circles and when they speak, a visual equalizer effect appears around them. As you match names to these circles, you can track the characters’ movements on the map, even when you’re in a different room. The cases are thoughtfully designed, with increasing complexity as you progress through the five main cases (plus additional DLC content). Solving them feels really rewarding. Later cases introduce larger maps, longer audio recordings, and more characters, which makes attentive listening and note-taking crucial. Fortunately, the game allows you to add notes directly to the audio track, helping you keep track of important details. I suggest using headphones for the best experience. The audio quality is excellent, with atmospheric background sounds that draw you deeper into the experience. The voice acting is strong, with occasional over-the-top performances that actually help in distinguishing characters, which is especially useful since the game relies solely on audio for storytelling. People with hearing difficulties should be aware that the game lacks subtitles, which could make it harder (or impossible) to enjoy the game.

I absolutely loved this game, the stories were so fun to solve! I played it by myself at first and then got my mom into it! She has never cared about games so this was the first time she was actually invested and having fun with it :) It was challenging at times but so rewarding solving each case! Now I've been looking for similar games and hoping these devs dub the other unheard game. I really recommend this game to anyone who is into puzzle games, crime shows, and paying attention to detail!

In this game, you visit crime scenes and have to solve a couple of questions they give you based off the audio of the characters involved. I thought the concept sounded really cool. Something I found really neat is how you can visit different rooms and hear different conversations that occur at the same time as others. It really helps piece the mystery together when you're able to hear all perspectives. It's not too difficult but also not that easy, and as someone that struggles with mysteries, I appreciate it a lot. The game is pretty short and I would have liked more, but what you get out of it makes the price tag reasonable at least. Some minor things I would complain about is the voice acting sometimes had some awkward delivery. There is an option to add comments during the audio, but I would have preferred a different method for note taking like something I could have on the side and just glance at, rather than have to go through the audio to see the comments I made. I didn't really use that comment feature often just because it wasn't that helpful to me. Overall, the cases are pretty interesting and it ties up things together pretty well at the end. I think it's a game worth checking out if the concept appeals to you at all.

I really liked this game, very original and engaging. Basically, you hear the same moment in time as it happens in different rooms of the place you're investigating, so you get all the sides of a particular story, which you then piece together to solve the case. A character receives a call while you're in that room, you can note the time and go to different rooms at that time to find out who was calling them and what they were saying. It feels like you're eavesdropping, getting gossip, and also crucial evidence. It's just easy fun! Can we pleeeeeeeeezzzzz get an English translation of the Chinese-only DLCs? Subs would be enough, pretty please?
