Just discovered this game it very much is my cup of tea! The feeling of playing it reminds me of games like Gothic or Risen (except procedural!) where you just feel like a small part of a larger, dangerous world and getting to the end is no easy feat. You are allowed (and expected) to fail. However, this also means that progressing and succeeding feels real and meaningful. The good: - Meaningful progression - A large world to explore and learn about - Faction system is great, makes the world really feel alive - Just as much of an emphasis on preparing for a journey as there is on the journey itself - Tense combat meaning you have to carefully pick your battles - It offers a ton of options to help you (though learning the game will still take effort) The bad: - I do think the game could do a better job at teaching some fundamentals (I still don't fully understand parrying, the game says it will happen automatically but it just doesn't seem reliable) - Its very easy to accidentally steal something from somebody, it really should tell you when a container's content is owned like it does for smaller containers (or at least make it so that if you take stuff when the owner isn't around then they don't immediately become aware of it) - Bugs! I have seen multiple (often UI) bugs occur

A very unique game, certainly not for everyone, but if you like games with a story where you feel your choices have significant impact, and you really do not know what will come next, this game is a treat. It takes you through a deep story, that is not easy but rewards those who play, lose, and learn. Completing this game on your first, fifth or even tenth run is unlikely, but it offers something for me a lot of games have not and that is a true sense of not knowing what happens next. Sometimes the game is rough around the edges and RNG can cause you some serious issues, but there are some help options within the settings menus, that help you get out of softlocks or other issues, and the penalty of death is not very high for most of the game, meaning you can play it quite casually if you want. I highly recommend this game for anyone who wants an experience quite unlike any game they've played before!

Every time I start this game up, I really feel like it's something special. Although I've never quite gotten into it, I really appreciate the long term dedication from the devs and the creativity and work that continuously go into this game. I never quite know what's going on when I'm playing it, I'm constantly surprised and the sense of wonder and exploration are what keep me coming back, curious to see if maybe I can crack this game *this* time.

It's extremely original, has an immersive setting, and tries for some interesting unique mechanics that it mostly pulls off. I recommend it, but for gamers with A LOT of patience, both to learn its idiosyncratic & challenging systems and also deal with glitches that stem from its ambitious procedural structure. When I first started playing about a year ago, I would have given it a reluctant Thumbs Down review due to the constant uncertainty around bugs - it was often hard to tell whether I just couldn't figure out a puzzle or whether it had generated in an unsolvable state (which did happen more than it should), or whether some major negative development (a faction suddenly hating me for example) happened to due a real mistake or some mechanic short-circuiting. But I give the devs tons of credit - this is clearly a labor of love for them, and when I recently revisited the game it is MUCH more stable and many of the more janky mechanics have been streamlined & improved. They still regularly update and it's gotten much more accessible. I'm really impressed. One of my favorite aspects (besides the very singular visual style) is that it is a genuinely dynamic world that changes both due to your actions & also independent of them. Your actions have both big & small ripple effects that aren't just determined by some "Do you save the Elven Village or the Dwarf Fort?" obvious dialogue choice common to most CRPGS - in Unexplored 2 even some of the ways you interact with the environment or items will systemically alter the world, how magic works in different areas, etc. Time passing is also a factor that adds urgency to your quest - the evil Empire is marshaling its forces and you watch them gradually expand on the map, occupying locations, assaulting settlements. It has a LOTR feel in that respect, yet you also feel like you do have time & freedom to explore. Exploration is also rewarding, as there are many corners of the world, strange devices or structures, odd environments, etc. Sometimes you will understand them, other times they will be a mystery to solve. Others you will remain a mystery at least on your first playthru, but there's so much else to do it just makes the world feel more lived-in and mysterious. Definitely a buy for folks who enjoy original RPGs and learning new mechanics without hand-holding.

I loved the first Unexplored. It scratched that real-time RL itch that comes up sometimes that only a handful of games have done right (Barony is another). I remember thinking that Unexplored 2 could potentially be one of those goat games after seeing the trailer.....then for a long time nothing happened....then the game was released. I wish I could remember now what the issue was, but the game fell flat on its face and I didn't buy it. ....Recently I got back into Unexplored 1 a little, and that re-peaked my interest in Unexplored 2. I downloaded the demo, and bought the game shorty after once I realized that it was a much more fleshed out version of the the first game. There's still dungeons and caves, but now you get to see the land above the caves and enter the fortress from the top. The combat is still like the first one imo, the items are unique and have variety as do the locations, and the graphics are definitely decent. There are tons of difficulty options to make it easier or harder. There's even an option to play the game as the Roguelite that the devs envisioned before the project changed-though I haven't tried this yet. What made me write this review is the fact that the devs are still pushing regular updates a few years later. Actual gameplay updates, not just random code efficiency stuff or language translations. This alone should deserve a purchase of the game. Check out the demo, what do you have to lose?
