man, there is so much to love and so much... not to love here. Lets start with the good shall we :-) So, in general, I really liked the game. The art is very cute, the story, though simple, really pulled me in, supported by the visual story telling. I liked (almost) all platforming and the hidden collectibles where done in a very fun way. That being said, I do have a few small gripes with the game. For one, I personally did not really enjoy the boss fights, they felt slow and punishing, specifically the final boss suffered from this. Now they did remedy this by having 3 checkpoints in the boss-fight, but the fact that that was needed only goes to show that the mechanics themselves where not amazing. Secondly, some of the platforming just felt a bit unfun. asking you to jump at the exact right pixel 5 times in a row, its not a huge deal, just something which kind of bugged me at times. All things considered though, I can certainly recommend this game, the platforming is not revolutionary, certainly early parts might feel quite familiar if you play a lot of platformers, but it was still a good and fun game, though I am happy that I did wait to buy it when it was on sale.

TL;DR - 7/10 - Extremely well made twitch puzzle platformer that goes from casual fun to f--- you mode about two hours in. Recommended for people who want a challenge. Not recommended for casual gamers as there is no "easy" mode. And now some additional thoughts... DIFFICULTY I... did not expect this indie puzzle platformer to be as difficult as it was. Good lord. It was approaching Crash Bandicoot levels of pissing me off, but it ends up being more tolerable than Crash Bandicoot because it's very well made and it doesn't feel like it's cheating with awkward camera angles and weird hitboxes. (Glares disgustedly at Crash Bandicoot.) Don't go into this expecting it not to be hard. It is VERY difficult and VERY punishing. I think I said every vulgarity imaginable trying to get that little cloaked s--- through a series of traps that would make Princess Peach moan with delight. A lot of the sequences require perfect positioning and perfect timing to navigate. ANY damage will result in your character's death. Thankfully, the developers had enough common sense to be generous with the autosave feature. It does save your progress very often, which is good because... f---. OPTIONAL SIDEQUESTS Admittedly, some of the difficulty is optional. Emphasis on SOME. The main quests are also very, very punishing and difficult at times. That said, you do not have to explore the entire map, unless you want the good ending. I wanted to 100% the game, so I did all the things. Optional bits include rescuing villagers, clearing out two massively difficult corrupted zones to give them a safe new home, and looking for spirits. GAMEPLAY Though they are difficult, the levels are extremely well put-together. You can tell a lot of thought and care went into the mechanics of each section and there are very few sections where you can get away with playing your way or cheating the system, which is impressive as the game has a myriad of portal powers and special abilities that easily could have allowed an experienced player to breeze through in godmode if it were any less well-realized. STORY Story-wise... the game is just okay. It didn't make me mad, but I wasn't really engrossed by it. It's got the tragic hero trying to save the fallen kingdom from the mistakes of the past... and it's fine... but... eh. ATMOSPHERE, ART STYLE AND MUSIC What it lacks in story it makes up for with atmosphere, art style, and music. The game looks gorgeous, and the music perfectly compliments the setting and sets the mood. GLITCHES I only encountered one, and it was annoying. In the area before meeting the final shady villager, there is a corridor of falling teeth (a frustrating mechanic they use again, and again, and again, but with different variations each time). After a certain number of deaths, which seemed random, my character would stop spawning, and I had to do a hard restart of the program to get it unglitched. I managed to work through that section, but it was very annoying as I was trying to muscle memory a difficult section, and I kept getting interrupted by having to completely restart the game. OVERALL It's a very good twitch puzzle platformer and I highly recommend it to any fans of the genre who are looking for a challenge. It's very similar to Ori and the Blind Forest, but it's not the same game. That said, I can't really recommend Unbound for casual players as the difficulty spikes into f--- you territory fairly frequently on the main quest, and I can see anyone who's super not into punishing games that require practice, muscle memory, perfect coordination, and expert timing getting incredibly frustrated by it. Because of this, I give it a 7/10. Must play only if you're looking for a challenge. Consider something else or get it on mega sale if you're looking for something that won't make you break your keyboard. Twice. Not that I... broke... a keyboard while playing it... ... I broke several keyboards... plural...

Fantastical Journey: Adventures, puzzles, and skills... oh my. 8.5/10 The artist in this game did an amazing job. The characters, level design and overall universe is unique and inspiring. Visually, this is such an amazing looking game. The overall game play and level design is well thought out and executed. Progressing through the game, obtaining the base upgrades and unlocking new magic abilities feels rewarding & keeps the game interesting. The game keeps you on your toes and fully immersed throughout the majority of your game play. Each magical skill brings its own skill set and way of approaching puzzles, which often feel engaging. The only reason I didn't give this game a 10/10 is cuz some of the sections get very obnoxious, very fast. Though the game does use a pretty forgiving checkpoint system to keep things moving. Over all the game is just well designed. This dev team should be proud of their game. I think most games should aspire to be this well thought out. If they ever make a sequel, i'm buying.

Thoroughly enjoyed this game! It's a mix of the puzzles of Abe's Odyssey, the fast hard platforming of Celeste, the quick time events of Ori / Rayman and the metroidvania skills of Hollow Knight. Put them all together and you get this underrated gem of a game that I'd never heard of and never comes up in Metroidvania lists. Considering I bagged it for under a fiver and I'll get about 10 hours of playtime, I think it's thoroughly worth it!

TL;DR - Trust Fall, the game. $4 - A steal. $10 - a bargain. $20 - wouldn't have tried it. [+] The tutorial of this game is an absolute masterpiece. [+] The game clearly wants to tell you a story but it doesn't force it. [+] The gimmick of this game is the game. It isn't part of the game. It isn't stapled to the game. It is the game, and it's an absolute treat, and we can all learn a lot from this. This game is an absolute delight. You're going to either love this concept in it's entirety or you're going to find another game. That's about all there is to it. There are clearly situations in this game that you legit just have to trust that the developer put a platform over there, cause the only way it works is if they put a platform over there, and they did put a platform over there because they want you to know that you can trust them. You have to trust them. This is Trust Fall, the game, and I love it. I'm also sad. I played 4 other games before this that all had 10 - 20x the reviews and exposure that this cheeky little game got, and this game takes a multi-dimensional dump on the lot of them.
