Turmoil is a relaxed small-town management type game where the player bids for a plot of land, looks for oil, begins a drilling production, and attempt to sell at the best price. I'm not too into casual or relaxed games, but this one scratches an itch - the surprise and excitement for one: discovering oil and two: selling it for a good price. Don't be fooled by my hours - I have loads on Epic Launcher due to this game being free (once-upon-a-time) there. Turmoil's gameplay is relatively simple. The player starts out on a town screen where characters are slowly introduced. As the game progresses, the town grows building by building and other characters are introduced. These characters provide the opportunity to the player to upgrade their drilling equipment, their horses, or perhaps other wildcard activities such as bribing certain people in town to keep prices high. Once the player has spent a little money on what they want, they see the mayor to bid on a plot of land (that hopefully has high numbers, which means more oil). Other computer players bid, and if the player is really adamant about the spot they had, they have to outbid the previous bid (with a simple click). Once in the game on the map, the player has a set of abilities to use to acquire oil. Generally, players will have to start out scanning (either with a person or technology/scanner) to find a deposit of oil, the player will then build an oil rig, in which then pipes can be expanded from that rig. At first it is a little slow and annoying, but as the player upgrades, multiple drill bits, pipe sizes, and branches soon become available. The game uses horses and oil carts to move oil around the area. Two companies are available: the Left Company and the Right Company. Both companies have fluctuating prices as the game goes on and the player will have to do their best to sell off their oil at the right time to maximize profit. For whatever reason, this little cycle of gameplay is fun to engage with once in a while! The graphics and visuals are suitable to the game's environment. User interface, design, assets all flow very nicely with one another. The animations are simple, but effective in delivering information to the player (especially if the oil begins to overflow). Upgrading the pipes are also visible and other little settings of that nature. The game let's the player know a change has been made not only in the code, but visually. The sounds and music are very relaxing and absolutely suitable to the game's atmosphere. In-game sounds make the proper noises that they should (especially when a drill hits a rock) and are useful information for the player to pick up on. This area of the game was done well. Overall, not a bad game, not a great game, but something different to play when the usual gets boring. I would recommend a purchase on sale, and because I beat the base game so many times, I got the DLC as well. It's a little more of the same, but when you like a game, you like a game. Would recommend doing your homework before a purchase but as I've already said, if it's on sale, go for it! Personal Rating: Very Positive (90%) Your average oil mining game, that would make an average American proud. There is more than just pumping oil. You need to compete againd other 3AI's that try to topple you and get more oil, and ultimately, more stocks in order to take the post. It's fun, but it can very well turn into a financial chess game, instead of just mining oil.

Casual mining game with some elements of strategy. Can only play an hour or two at a time then it becomes too repetitive. Beat the regular campaign in about 7-8 hours. Its fun, recommended it if it goes on sale. Rating 4/5
