March 2025
(Yes I know a lot of the features I discuss were already introduced in Tropico 5) The good: + Far more content than any other Tropico game, you can play for hours and hours and never get bored + Ridiculously addictive + The eras system greatly increases the longevity of games + Plantations having a fixed growing area makes farming a lot more predictable + Raids are really fun + Really good graphics + The archipelago system, where you can control multiple islands instead of just one, is great + Basically just Tropico 5 but improved in every feasible way + The difficulty curve feels balanced and natural, the earlier games could get pretty easy once you've figured it all out, but difficulty adjustment feels more balanced in this game The meh: ~ The dynasty system from 5 was removed, I know some disliked dynasties but I didn't mind them ~ You certainly can play as a malevolent, self-centered asshole, but I feel like the game tends to reward benevolance more ~ The budget system does remove some micromanagement, but doesn't feel as in depth as the individual sliders you had in the earlier games ~ The political satire and humor is still there, but I feel like it's taken a backseat to the gameplay ~ I would personally like the combat in these games to have an overhaul, as it mostly just boils down to who has more troops ~ Has a bigger scale than Tropico 1-4, but I feel like that bigger scale makes you feel more separated from your citizens The bad: - The missions aren't that fun and don't feel as engaging as the campaigns from previous games - Your economy is too reliant on teamsters, teamster spam is one of the most effective ways to maximize your earnings Overall thoughts: 6 is by far the most content rich and replayable Tropico, the gameplay loop is really refined and fun, and basically every new feature is good. Just in terms of pure gameplay, it's probably the best in the series However, I do feel like it's lost a bit of what made Tropico special. Like I said, the bigger scale and smaller focus on humor does feel like it strips away some of that Tropico spice, to the point where the late game kinda just feels like tropical Simcity, rather than a real Tropico game. However, that doesn't take away that the game is extremely fun, if you like city builders, this is a must play.

As a life long Tropican I must say. The game is good as always, but it seems the DLC is getting out of control. They release a couple new buildings, maybe an edict or two and we pay our money like good buyers. I'm sad to say probably the last Tropico I buy if this model continues (it will cause we buy it). Just know your paying for 1/8th the game should of been at launch. They are counting on you spending 175.00 for the bundle of things that should of been in the game from the start.

Improves on Tropico 5's systems in every way. Fewer QOL improvements are hidden behind DLC, which I enjoy. It's surprisingly fast-paced, making it more of an RTS than a city-builder, which is fun. I'd appreciate a few more dialogue variations though, I'm about 3/4 through the missions and many jokes get old after the first few chuckles. That's a nitpick though.

Charming and real feeling government sim. Already almost 10 hours in and I can tell that I'm going to sink many many more. It's polished and solid, I've yet to encounter any glitches and am still learning things about the seemingly basic system. The soundtrack deserves its own praise, making you feel like the important dictator that you're pretending to be while you're definitely not partying all the time. Thank you El Presidente!

Tropicans await elections. And they will continue to wait, until El Presidente is ready, which might take a while.
