One of the better FTL clones out there. Honestly, this game deserves more credit than it's gotten. Is it perfect? Not even remotely. If you try too hard to compare it to FTL, of course you'll go away unhappy; it has its own strengths. Unfortunately, many weapons are gated behind achievements, which does enhance progression but does also mean that early runs can be a bit bland. Still, some of the negative reviews are baffling examples of confirmation bias. Y'all do know that you can sell prisoners at some shops for huge amounts of cash instead of reducing your bounty, right? Which I'm pretty sure it said in the tutorial? (Incidentally, the devs started doing big patches again. Just, y'know, they were based in UKRAINE. I think it's in extremely poor taste to accuse them of "abandoning the game" under those circumstances.) If there's something I feel dramatically weakens the game, it's the fact that killing the enemy captain instantly wins the fight. There are also some "artificial longevity" achievements that I'm guessing were meant to be paired with two final ship types that ended up not manifesting in the face of literal warfare.

A fun rogue-like space adventure for fans of the genre. The core game play mechanics are pretty intuitive once you get the hang of them, and managing your crew and battle procedure is exciting and often satisfying. There's the logistical balance of upgrading ship systems and weapons, fuel and repairs. Also implement internal and similar offensive strategies to opposing vessels mid-skirmish; keeping your crew alive during battle, when you're fighting intruders, putting out fires or repairing hull breaches ect. While the main campaign story is linear & scripted - quest events and resource management is RNG dependant so not all elements are predetermined so there is replay value here. Fyi the game still receives ongoing support from the Dev team - last update for balance & bug fixes was of May 13th and revitalised road map of more improvements to come. So ignore the rumours, rest assured it has not been abandoned. The full price is reasonable for what's on offer or get your money's worth and grab a bargain on sale. 8/10

FTL but better graphics. Cool story and lots of replayability. You will struggle at first but then you will get used to the reward/potential of each jump. I highly recommend.

Main thoughts: - It's an FTL clone with nice graphics and visual effects. It does copy the majority of FTL mechanics, but also has a few additions and improvements. It ain't perfect, but it scratched my "FTL itch"; - Good replayability value, plenty of things to unlock. The achievements and gear unlocks are grindy though; - Many things that I hated in FTL were done differently in this game, and I appreciated that; - The story is meh. What I liked: - It's possible to play at your own pace, without being pushed to rush into the next sector. That makes exploring really fun and enjoyable. - Free mode / Sandbox mode; - Ships, weapon types and galaxy species are very well designed and looking real good. - Great soundtrack (especially the main theme in 2nd Chapter); What I didn't like: - Events are repetitive. - In campaign mode, some side quests are often sending you to either already explored nodes, or to the opposite end of the galaxy map, which leads to just ignoring such quests; - Cryo-pods management system could be better; - There are bugs that aren't fixed. Namely the one with enemy ship becoming immune to damage and non-targetable (happens after using teleporter to board enemy ship); - Unlocking certain gear requires taking down certain ships in a certain way. Problem is, hostile ships aren't signed - there is no name/type written anywhere during encounter, meaning there is no way to tell what ship type you're fighting... is it a 'federation scout', an "Eye-class scout" or a "Heavy Fighter"? Who knows...; - Some of the achievements have poor non-informative descriptions. Namely the "Devourer" and "Friendly Bunch". - The balance is mediocre. Many top-tier weapons are extremely overpowered. Having even one of those equipped significantly reduces game challenge. Conclusion: I did play the demo when the game first popped up, and it felt very underdeveloped at the time. It was too difficult, too repetitive, too laggy and too imbalanced. Now that I got back to it I can see that devs did an amazing job improving everything. It's a huge step forward from what it was in the beginning. Still, there is room for improvements. I rate it 9.1 / 10 .

For FTL lovers who have exhausted every conceivable ship combination and difficulty, this is the closest to an FTL 2 we're probably going to get, and that's not a bad thing. The game itself is a lot of fun, and after an hour or two of getting acclimated you'll find yourself in a familiar rhythm. It's REALLY pretty and there is a lot of variety to the weapons and drones, and the "crew abilities" that they've added make the individual crew members even more valuable and hard to lose. Almost all of the bugs folks have mentioned in other reviews have been quashed at this point so you can ignore a lot of the bad reviews. HOWEVER, there are a few problems that make it just short of "masterpiece" level like FTL. For one, with all the pretty graphic stuff it can be really hard to tell what's going on, unlike FTL with it's super simple "primitive" style where everything was super clear. There really needs to be some kind of "wireframe" button or something that will just show you a tactical view of exactly what's happening in both ships as I had crew members die fairly often due to not noticing when a room was on fire or exposed to space because of all the explosions and chaos going on during the battle. They've also decided to make cooldown timers REALLY fast. Even weapons with a pretty long recharge rate will fire quickly on the default speed, and room repairs and system repairs are also really fast. This makes taking down weapons or systems really unsatisfying a they pop back up again in almost no time. Due to this battles often seem much more frantic and less tactical than FTL. Also, as others have mentioned the writing suffers, mostly from being translated, but also from a kind of a generic-ness that never really pops or becomes overly engaging. It's a shame because the overall story (and especially the final battle in the campaign) are relatively compelling. So overall I'd give this one a big recommend for fans of FTL - I enjoyed my 20ish hours with it and will probably unlock all of the ships, but it is missing that "magic sauce" that saw me putting 500hrs+ into that classic.
