Quirky and fun Tower Defense / Offense game which is still fun in Single Player only (which it is unfortunately mostly limited to now). Definitely worth picking up at this price.

fun tower defense game. Might be other better ones on the market but I don't know any. Have a bunch of co-op hours in it with friends!

So unique! Or at least, I haven't seen any other games quite like it. Concept: Competitive tower defense where you build towers to protect yourself *while* sending units of your own to attack your enemy. I personally haven't ever seen this before, but apparently it was done first in WC3? Theme: Very well done. Funny voice lines, beautiful art & animation, and catchy soundtrack, all of which fit perfectly into the steampunk vibe. Gameplay: Addicting, with a caveat (see below). Games can be very tense in the beginning as you race to build your economy, towers, and unit upgrades before your opponent. I always get great satisfaction from arranging my units to send out, and creating good tower mazes is an interesting puzzle. It is possible to react to your opponent on the fly, and change your towers quickly to prepare for the current wave. Real-time strategy is a big component, especially at the start of matches. The AI opponents rapidly get extremely tough, which can provide a decent challenge for solo players. Replayability: This is where the game suffers most. In many respects this is a "solved" game - once you have a good grasp of what to prioritize at the start of matches, the game becomes more of a simple race to execute your strategy faster than your opponent. There is a good-yet-basic variety of towers and units to build/recruit, but I think the game would have benefited GREATLY from the devs' original intention to include a larger variety of towers and units to build a "menu" from for each game. Alas, the studio is no more and the matchmaking servers are kaput (you can still play with steam friends though). Recommendation: Personally I love the theme and concept of this game enough to keep coming back to it every few years and re-learn how to play it best. If you're interested in this game primarily because you want to compete with other people, maybe give it a pass as that isn't easily done in this game nowadays. If you love classic TD and/or steampunk, this is worth the money in my opinion and can give you a wonderfully fresh spin on the genre. For 10-14 hours, at least.
