If you are an aviation enthusiast looking for an immersive ATC experience, pick this one up along with the airline livery DLC. I find the game to be enjoyable and immersive. Playing busier airports like KLGA or KBUR at 85-100% traffic, watching the radar and optimally routing traffic at the same time can be challenging yet rewarding when rush hour finally ends and you are incident free! Alternatively, you can play a less busy airport and enjoy some leisurely plane spotting. The point here is that TS3 really is a multifaceted game in many respects depending on the mood you bring to the keyboard. Now the negative stuff: 1) Some of the wonky in-game issues others have reported are generally minor in occurrence and not UX killers IMO. 2) Aircraft engine sounds seem accurate, but overall engine volume and Doppler Effect physics need improvement. For example, when exiting the tower and viewing an A380 on the taxiway from 500 feet away you can barely hear it. 3) Most voice recognition issues I've encountered are due to my speaking the wrong phrases, call signs, runways, etc. However, I do think the voice command syntax needs to be relaxed. 4) The AI pilot voices sound genuine, but more are needed along with a speech cadence setting. There's maybe 10 AI voices and it gets old hearing the same ones. Also, informal phrases like "Good Morning" or "Good Day" need to be allowable response options, especially when the AI is saying them to you.

Is this a good sim overall? Yes I've bought this sim not long after its release. I also own the previous sim, Tower 3D Pro. Pros - Graphics, lighting, aircraft and sound- 8.5/10. Major improvement from the previous sim - Airports are well designed - Comes with a nice amount of starter airports - A good selection of additional airports to purchase and add to the sim with new ones continuing to be added - Multiplayer - Regular updates that continue to improve QOL, improve sim play and add additional content - A nice Portal where you can see and keep all of your FeelThere purchases organized and updated - Voice controlled with the option to also control aircraft from a click/message panel if needed - Ability to edit airport schedules (and other aspects) to allow you to customize your traffic - Good Discord community with frequent developer interaction Cons - Voice control is dependent on Windows voice recognition. For some, this may require you to train it on your PC which is a bit inconvenient. It can also take a moment to recognize what your saying and in some instances, stop working. A session reload usually helps with this. If you're not familiar with ATC phraseology, there will be a bit of learning curve. There is a document from the developer that lists all of the phraseology but they haven't been great about keeping this updated as new things are added. There is talk that FeelThere will be releasing another voice recognition system which will hopefully make this feature even easier and better to use. - Would love to see pattern work integrated as an option as this is something that Tower controllers handle in their airspace. - Career mode is a little ehhh... Most play "Quick-play" or a multiplayer session, and select the airport they want to control. Would love to see this aspect of the sim developed more to give players something more to progress through. - Price- With a base cost (not on sale) of $59.99 USD and an average add-on airport costing around $18.00 USD for just a simulator of Local airport control, the pricing is a bit steep. (There are some discount bundle options) In addition, if you want real-world liveries and traffic an additional investment of $44.99 is needed (from a partner designer) to add this to the sim. Otherwise you will have generic liveries and call-signs. Since FeelThere has not only developed their own sims but also contribute purchasable content to the MSFS community, I hope they rethink the pricing of their products. Even some of their older products are still priced way too high after being out for many years. There are some of us who love ATC and will take the hit in order to enjoy sim but I feel a lot of people who would probably play this sim are being completely priced out. This is a good simulator and if you love this kind of sim, I would wait until it and the add-ons go on sale and pick up what you can!

Short summarize of my experience after few hours of gameplay: + Giving voice commands is very satisfying + Save game feature + Zommable view + Ability to fly over entire airport + You can use ATC monitors or you can jump out the tower and open screens (radar, strips) and use them as GUI + Multimonitor support - you can add new windows and have some screens always visible + Career mode with positive and negative points system + Multiplayer support - High price as there are currently 7 airports in base game - No tutorial, no instruction. Only quick start guide and video tutorials covering only basics - No shortcut key for time speed control - Camera control can make some difficulties to used to - No ability to cancel command if mistake was made or Voice Recognition error, you can only wait several seconds for time out - Negative points are too low so punishment for serious mistakes is relatively low - You will encounter some bugs, but most of them isn't game braking Overall it is a good game but imo overpriced. PS. If you have voice recognition issues make sure your voice is heard well and loud through you microfone. Also I had issues at start and had to repeat same commands multiple times, but after some time the recognition start to work very well and I can now speak pretty fast. It seems the system need some time to learn your speech.

As a real life ATC I can only say that the game is amazing. Of course it's not perfect but at this moment you can't get closer to the real life experience with anything else on the market (not counting maybe VATSIM but that's a totally different thing). Let me summarize the main features of the game, the good sides and possibly what it misses: - the way you talk to the airplanes is very close to real life, the phraseology might differ just a bit and is a bit too schematic, but that's just the downside of using voice recognition rather than talking to real human - all the ATC techniques work as they should and reassemble real life very well - airports are realistic with every little taxiway named correctly - airlines callsigns and schedules are true to real life (although you have to pay extra for that) - radar display is realistic although a bit simplified to real life - flight strips are semi realistic, you can use them to some extent but they can't be really used to identify conflicts and you will have to rely mostly on ground radar display (which you would do anyway as bigger airports use that and are often working stripless) - there is a variety to chose from between very large airports with enormous traffic and some smaller ones with more chill out experience - multiplayer support is just an amazing thing, you can divide the traffic between positions as ground and air adding even more to realism and immersion - lack of VFR flights unfortunately, which is not something important on busy airports but for the smaller ones takes a bit of realism and challenge - total lack of vehicles, which are an important part of real life aerodrome control - flexibility of how you setup the experience (for example how you chose which runways to use) allows for very realistic operations or some experimenting, unfortunately there is no complete description on what configurations are realistic for each airport, you will have to figure it out or do some research in the AIP - graphics is very good and you can move the camera freely, therefore you can either position it where you want or stick to tower view as in real life, although in that view a large monitor (or even multi monitors) is recommended for better experience - some of the screens are configurable so you can craft the flight strips or radar displays the way you want them, unfortunately there is no editor for that, you will have to edit .csv files - the manual is very basic, it just tells you how to operate the game, it unfortunately lacks some kind of introduction on ATC techniques, how you should work on paralled dependent runways and so on, you will have to get this knowledge from other sources - there is a Discord channel with very helpful community - the price tag is pretty high but it's justified as the product is not aimed at a wide audience Among many job simulators available this one really does it very well. Comparing it to real life it's really as close as it could possibly be. The game is missing some parts of the real job, like for example handling vehicles, but in general gives the right and proper feel. The learning curve is steep and if you have no experience in real ATC it might be overwhelming at first but it's really worth the effort. Remember that IRL we spend hundreds of hours to learn the job and then years to master an airport, being prepared to handle it in different configurations, weather conditions etc., so this is how much time you can spend on each airport to master it and you have 6 of them for the start with many more to buy additionally. Even though I do this stuff for living I still like to play the game from time to time because it gives me new airports, new challenges, new ways to develop myself in a non stressful environment, just having fun. If you are interested in ATC and want to get the feeling of how all of this works it's just an amazing product for you to play. However if you are not willing to spend hours learning and mastering it probably you should skip it and decide to pick up something much simpler than that. The game is difficult, challenging but really satisfying to play.

I wasn't going to buy this game after reading the reviews and watching some YouTube videos where people point out all the bugs in the game. However, I've been looking for a game that matches my gaming capabilities (now that I'm 70 years old and don't have the reflexes, eyesight or dexterity of my younger years) and was fun and relaxing. I thought I'd give this a shot since it was on sale and I could always get a refund if I didn't like it. The game designer has responded to many of the complaints that the game doesn't accurately match actual ATC Tower operations by stating that they went for a fun game experience versus total fidelity to actual realism. I do believe they have done a good job. I do find this to be a good game to keep the mental faculties sharper for people of any age without requiring lightning reflexes. Planning is more important than fast reaction times. There are various scenarios that have increasing complexity. I have found that with my short playing time, I've gotten better at handling multiple items in shorter time frames. I did train the Microsoft Speech Recognition software on my computer before using the game. Many people complain that the application doesn't understand them. It seems to get well over 95% of what I'm saying which actually mimics real life pretty closely. I do run across a pilot now and then that doesn't seem to understand what I'm saying. This appears to be a bug in some cases. Reading through the comments in Discord, the perfect solution for that troublesome aircraft is to just delete it. Of course that breaks realism, but this is just a game after all. Without that feature, the game would probably get pretty frustrating. If only I could get rid of problems in real life so easily ;-). The other thing that I didn't think I was going to like was the made up airline names and generic paint schemes on the planes. To get real planes and proper livery colors cost extra money and those of us on fixed incomes have to be careful on our spending. It turns out the made up names don't bother me that much. Overall I am pleased with this game and there does seem to be active development going on. It looks like additional free airports and scenarios have been added to the game since it was first released along with various bug fixes. The free additions are always welcome and does make me want to support a developer who thinks of their existing customers.
