honestly i'm mixed on touge shakai, but i'll rate it up anyways. i don't think it was ever going to live up to initial unity, which borrows its assets from the renowned high quality assetto corsa modding scene, and is also free. continuing from initial unity, touge shakai has a unique physics system that emulates the fantasy of drifting without needing a racing wheel, and not being the oft-despised brake to drift system, instead - you throw your car around a corner, and when it inevitably oversteers, the car will countersteer automatically, while accepting correctional inputs left and right. at first this will feel very unnatural, but when you get used to it, it's like crack. there's no other way to describe it. there are grip options as well, but they can feel difficult to drive, as the game's physics lends itself to drifting. you need careful steering and throttle control or you'll oversteer which is generally unwanted. i still enjoy playing them for the novelty of following a proper racing line in a drift heavy game, but it's clear they are more of a novelty, but add a good amount of variety just by existing. content-wise, this game doesn't pretend to be something it's not. it's a time attack racer through and through. if you like time attacks and 1-on-1 touge battles online, this is THE game. if you're looking for a lengthy career mode with a story, this isn't it. one thing i am negative about is the art style. cars are obviously legally distinct versions of their irl counterparts so forgiveness is warranted there, not much you can do. however, the stages are gray and green. those are the two main colors of the game. just gray and green. it's not pleasing to look at and has this flat, muted look going on. but overall, yeah, touge shakai is pretty good, and at 15 dollars, it's extremely fair value for what you get.
If you like the idea of a non-sim time attack touge game with a high skill ceiling then you probably can't do better than this right now. Good stuff and a great soundtrack that only gets better once you take advantage of the custom soundtrack feature to pad out the song selection.
This game is definitely way better with mods like Shakai Extended and Project ZN, however with those being gone its alright. Solid like 7.5/10 experience. Fair warning it is arcadey by nature so some cars are full grip, some are drift, and others are a mix. Probably best to try all cars first and find one that fits your style rather than forcing yourself into a car you don't like.
