I just want to add a positive tip for this game because it meant something to me. I've been holding off on reviewing it because I'm not a reviewer, and I have a condition that makes it difficult for me to write properly. I just want to thank Crystal Dynamics for this game. To anyone who might think this is a troll review, I sincerely apologise for giving that impression. This comes from the bottom of my heart, and I genuinely mean it.
give us the beneath the ashes and lara's shadow DLCs NOW !!! Tomb Raider: Underworld is a game with so much potential. I really enjoyed the graphics, characters and the voice acting. There's new exploration mechanics and abilities (like the chimney jump) which make the gameplay feel more diverse in its "tomb raiding". Thailand looks stunning and is probably one of the best levels in the game. Maybe if Underworld had gotten the proper time to stay in development to truly reach its peak I could even call it my favorite, but eh... If I could put the rating as neutral, I would. I liked being able to choose between different variations of the same outfits before doing a level. Like long pants or shorts? Different types of diving suits? More of that please. The controls are a bit janky, the camera angle often works AGAINST the player, and unless you cap your FPS to 60 the physics go haywire. The relic hunting that makes exploring so much more fun is... awful. There's so many treasures, many of which are just two steps away from each other. You could turn a corner and boom, there's a whole line of them. They don't even unlock anything except concept art so you're collecting 179 treasures for almost nothing. The treasures themselves are identical and often blend into the environment (or they're in conveniently placed jars) which just makes them annoying to find. At least this time there's special relics that increase Lara's health, and they require a lot more brain power than just "walk on this hallway and pick up this treasure". While Thailand is on a whole another level, the game suffers heavily from everything having the same muted grey-blue tones. Everything looks the same. :(. The story was nice... if there had been a proper ending. See, the actual ending endings are locked behind the DLCs. The same DLCs that are Microsoft Store Exclusives. That you can't play on PC (unless you get very, very creative). Like damn, ok. Underworld is not bad but it feels unfinished. Buy if it's on sale and want to finish the LAU trilogy. Other than that it's hard to recommend because if you don't already like the Tomb Raider franchise, this definitely wouldn't entice you to play the other games.
Steam is asking me if I would recommend this game to other players. For real?! Of course I am! It goes without a saying that I would recommend not just this but any Tomb Raider game. My whole childhood started from Tomb Raider. Play Station got famous from Tomb Raider. Lara Croft was our first love and imaginary girlfriend. And now I get this question?! For people born after 2000: yes. It is a good game.
It’s definitely my favorite Tomb Raider game! This game has the best version of Lara, beautiful environments, very nice graphics, well-made animations, and really fun levels and puzzles to play through. It was definitely the game that kept me hooked the most. I didn’t enjoy the story that much, but it serves its purpose. Still, it’s a game that’s absolutely worth it for the ADVENTURE.

It stands in a completely different league from the recent Reboot series. While the newer titles focus on flashy graphics and "guided tours" where you simply follow instructions, Underworld offers a "True Expedition" that requires you to comprehend the entire environment as one giant puzzle. At first, you might feel frustrated and think the game is "unfriendly" because it doesn't hold your hand. However, as you use the regional hints and slowly unravel the intricate mechanisms of these massive ruins, you begin to realize the staggering amount of labor and meticulous design the developers poured into this world. The thrill of racing through the underworld on a motorcycle to conquer these colossal structures is simply unparalleled. It’s heartbreaking to think this game faced criticism upon release; it deserves so much more. We are at a point where we need games like this again—games that grant the 'joy of finding one's own path.' "Please release a Remaster. The future of Tomb Raider should look exactly like Underworld!"
