Dec. 2024
It was a quiet morning in the small, dusty town of Salsatown. The citizens were bustling about, preparing for the annual Tomato Festival, where the town’s famous tomato-based delicacies would be judged by none other than the legendary adventurer, Tomato Jones. No one quite knew where Tomato Jones had come from, but his reputation was larger than life. Stories circulated about his daring escape from the Cucumber Caverns and his victorious face-off against the Evil Eggplant Empire. Wherever there was trouble, Tomato Jones would arrive, his trusty lasso made of twisted spaghetti always at his side, and his iconic red fedora perched perfectly atop his head. The peaceful preparation of the festival was abruptly interrupted by a loud BOOM. A dark shadow loomed over the town as the dreaded villain, Captain Crouton, appeared in his airship, The Breadbasket. “Citizens of Salsatown!” Captain Crouton bellowed, his voice crackling through a megaphone. “Hand over the legendary Ruby Relish, or your festival will be toast! Literally!” Panic spread like wildfire as townsfolk scrambled. The Ruby Relish, a sacred condiment of unparalleled flavor, was the pride of Salsatown. But who could stand up to Captain Crouton’s army of sourdough soldiers? “Don’t worry, folks,” a calm voice called from the crowd. “I’ll handle this.” Tomato Jones stepped forward, his crimson skin glistening under the sun. He tipped his hat, adjusted his spaghetti lasso, and gave a reassuring smile. “No one messes with Salsatown while I’m around.” With incredible agility, Tomato Jones swung his lasso onto the airship’s anchor, pulling himself aboard. The sourdough soldiers were no match for his quick reflexes and ingenious tactics. Using a jar of extra-spicy salsa, he blinded their crouton eyes, sending them tumbling off the airship. Inside the Breadbasket, Captain Crouton was waiting. “Well, well, well,” he sneered. “If it isn’t Tomato Jones. I’ve been waiting for this moment.” “I hate to break it to you,” Jones said, cracking his vine-like knuckles, “but you’re about to be crumbled.” The ensuing battle was one for the books. Captain Crouton hurled stale baguettes, while Tomato Jones countered with his signature Spaghetti Whip. Just as Crouton thought he had the upper hand, Jones unleashed his secret weapon: a bottle of Salsatown’s famous hot sauce. “Nooooo!” Crouton howled as the fiery condiment melted his crusty exterior. With a final, dramatic splat, he fell into the desert below, landing in a pile of soft garlic butter. The Breadbasket began to sputter and fall apart, but Jones leapt to safety just in time, parachuting down with a tortilla wrap. Back on the ground, the townsfolk erupted in cheers. The Ruby Relish was safe, and the festival could go on. Tomato Jones stood before the crowd, brushing off a bit of flour from his hat. “Another mission accomplished,” he said, winking. “Now, who’s ready for some salsa?” The crowd roared, and Jones was hoisted into the air as the hero of the day. Somewhere in the distance, the sun set, painting the sky a brilliant shade of red—just like the unstoppable Tomato Jones. And so, the legend grew, ensuring that wherever there was danger, Tomato Jones would always be there to save the day. The End.

The tomato physics are really satisfying, though pushing crates might be a struggle sometimes. Also, really appreciate when respawns are very quick, especially when there will be lots of dying, because in about an hour and a half, I got a good 100 deaths and the quick respawn is a lifesaver!

This was a delicious 3D platforming adventure that far surpasses anything else I have available on this platform. Tomato jones might just be the best adventure money can buy with its unique tomato physics and splatter death animations leaving you completely immersed. This game is genre defining and a love letter to the tomb raiding genre. For the low low price of $0.75 (on sale) I became one with the tomato and for that price, everyone should do the same.
