Toki Tori is devilish despite its cutesy exterior. Don't let that irresistibly cute chicken fool you, this is a HARDCORE puzzle game. Mechanics are explored to their very end and mixed in with others to mislead you. The levels are some of the best I've seen in a puzzle game. Some of them lingered with me even after I 100% completed the game. The puzzles are not created for puzzle's sake, but to introduce or explain to the player something interesting in the world. Using the fact that Toki Tori can cross 1 tile gaps, using ghost traps to make passages for yourself, etc. etc... Please play it, it's on sale a lot and I bought it for 0.8 euros.

One of those puzzle games, cute and cuddly on the outside, but with hardcore brain-metling levels by the end of the game. The difficulty curve is quite smooth and balanced - levels in the middle are very pleasant to go through. If I have to pick a problem with Toki Tori is that sometimes solution may include good exectution, and not just logic - but these cases are few and far between. And time-rewind mechanic makes is as un-annoying as possible.

Fun puzzle game with a great sense for difficulty. If playing on Steam Deck, use TDP limit. For some reason this will eat up battery.

Fugly in an endearing and uplifting kind of way, much like myself I hope. You kind of have to see the way these sickly overcooked pre-rendered sprites animate to believe it. "Tightly designed" as a puzzle game; to the capacity that to complete any given challenge, you're required to make very careful use of your dwindling tools in narrow spaces - but it feels more like an act of uncovering the dev's linear playbook through trial and error, rather than intuition or improvisation. Stray from the script for even a single tile and the whole level is fugged. It's all very diagnostic but there's a spark of whimsy in here. At its best when it uses this accuracy-demanding design to its advantage - there are some devilish moments here that require incredibly careful timing with the enemy patrols, as well as surprisingly clutch moments with your limited allocated tools, I really gotta give props there. For the most part though, it's all kind of rote. Funnily enough jumpscared me with 2011 Portal 2 ARG levels. What a time that was. Still pissed I never managed to get that golden potato Steam badge, it's all been downhill since then. Also lol at the credits song.
