This game is my Yaoi Bible. Whenever I need to seek guidance, comfort, advice, or anime men kissing each other, I come back to this game. I could write a 5K word essay on why Togainu no Chi is peak fiction but the simple fact that Shiki is in the game sells it enough I think.

The first time I played this title was almost 20 years ago when the game was released in Japanese. Playing it now gives me a sense of nostalgia. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic, lawless city where our protag is sent to participate in Igra, a form of street fighting, and must make his way to challenge Il Re, their undefeated king. The plot is interesting, featuring a heavy action-survival theme which I enjoyed. It has clearly grown darker over time, with Akira frequently assaulted both physically and sexually. Be warned that more than half of the sex scenes are non-consensual, including not only bad endings but also rape scenes in the actual routes. IMO, the story could've delved even deeper into the darkness and been extended further. The narrative is fast-paced and engaging, but it sometimes feels rushed. I think many areas could've benefited from more detailed narration, for example, taking the time to explore the angst and corruption would have fully utilized the story's potential with the good material they had. But even with these points, I still found the story enjoyable and got hooked on it. On the other hand, the artwork is one of my favorites! They perfectly nailed it, such an eye candy. The music also fits well with the theme, really enhancing the immersive experience. 'STILL' has been my favorite song for a long time and will remains so. For the best experience, I recommend playing the routes in the following order: Keisuke > Motomi > Rin > Shiki > Nano . This preserves the story's dynamics and plot revelations. Note that the last two routes require certain other routes to be completed before they unlock. Each route has its own flavor and focus, with the LIs having distinct personalities that give different feelings for each route. Finally, TnC is a good game with an engaging story that I enjoyed a lot, even if it isn't as polished as later titles from N+C. You can purchase the 18+ patch from the JAST website to restore the uncensored content. Be mindful of the disturbing content, tho!
