This isn't just a game teaching you assembly programming. It's a puzzle. While the puzzles start out deceptively simple (no doubt for those not yet versed in assembly programming), they soon grow more complex and amusing, and the tesselation of the TIS-100 becomes relevant. Each node contains extremely limited memory and a limited number of instructions. With hard limits on how much control flow you can stuff into each node, you'll eventually have to learn how to take advantage of the TIS-100's "tesselated" processing by dividing the work among nodes, especially if you want to try to write fast, elegant programs. Whether you're a programmer or not, this is a playground for your brain. You might get all the way through and spend hours optimizing your programs for achievements and giggles, or you might get stuck after a few puzzles and walk away having learned at least the basics of what assembly programming looks like. The difficulty curve seems well-designed and should be fun for a variety of skill levels.

It's a game where the gameplay is programming. If you like programming, you might like TIS-100. If you don't like programming, you probably won't like TIS-100.

Is this the most fun game I have ever played? No. Of course not. This game is, however, more meaningful and important than most games I have played. I have been a programmer for over 15 years (ATOW). This is the game that I turn to to teach my friends how to code, and it is the most fun and engaging coding exercise that I have given them.
