March 2025
Nice game but very incomplete for now, so I would suggest waiting a while. The good : [*] Lots of varied and bright colors for hairstyles, eye colors, and skin tones. [*] You can choose one of three voices for a character, and then adjust the pitch, which is pretty cool. [*] No sex selection, instead you have a selection for pronouns and another selection for choosing if the character can get pregnant, get other people pregnant, or just not get pregnant. [*] Neighborhoods feel alive, npc tinies ai seems fine. The less good : [*] Very limited clothing, hairstyles and objects. [*] The colors for clothing and objects are VERY limited. Some clothing are available in bright colors, but others only in awful pastel tones. I really can't understand why they don't all come in all the colors. [*] Blonde hair colors look kinda bad (I'm not sure why). Also there aren't any very pale hair colors (light blonde, platinum, silver, white, etc). [*] Although there are many weird skin colors like purple, among the more normal skin tones there aren't any very pale ones (where's my vampire representation, I ask you ?). [*] Default sound volume is really bad. When starting the game for the first time and creating a first character and choosing its voice, the music is so lound compared to the voice that I can barely hear it. I had to reduce the music from 50% to 10% in order to hear the actual voice. [*] There are small icons in the corner of some clothing and furniture, but good luck if you can't guess what they mean... There definitely should be a tooltip explaining what they mean because I haven't the faintest clue. I can guess that for clothing it has to do with the occasion, and that's about it. [*] Lots of quality of life stuff missing, like when creating characters and switching between them, it switches to the first tab each time, instead of keeping the same tab (hairtyle for example) that was already open. But that's expected from early access. [*] No filters, sorting or search bar for finding objects. [*] It's impossible to move an item if it has another item on it (like a table with a computer), or in front of it (like a desk with a chair). Instead you need to remove all the items on it and in front of it, which is a massive pain. [*] It's easy to get locked out of some goals. For example, there's a goal where a tiny needs to repair items X number of times. But if you already have someone with repair, then that character automatically performs maintenance on objects so they never break. So you need to find someone with low repair and have them tinker with something until it breaks, and then the character you want can repair them. But tinkering increased their repair skill, so it will be harder for them to break another object, and so on. [*] Tinies often get stuck trying to talk to someone who is already doing something, and if that task is unending (like training) then they'll just stand around forever waiting to talk to them. [*] Killing tinies is very very hard. On the technical side : [*] Runs natively on Wayland °o° [*] The game actually works properly with a tiling window manager ! (Tested on Sway) I know, no one cares... But there are some games that are near unplayable (aka playable as long as you don't exit fullscreen or switch focus, otherwise all hell breaks lose) but that's not a problem with this game. I tried to crash it by repeatedly entering and exiting fullscreen, by switching it from tiling to floating and back to tiling, and by opening so many tiled windows on the same workspace that the game window was reduced to 1x2 cm, but it didn't even cause the slightest issue or stutter. [*] Doesn't melt my GPU and CPU. Doesn't create a black hole eating all my RAM. Yes that's a low bar for a game using 2D pixel art, but apparently that's still too high for a lot of games so it bears mentioning. I wish there was a neutral rating, I lean more towards waiting until the game is more developed.

Tiny Life is one of those games that just hits differently. The art, gameplay, and vibrant community make it a truly enjoyable experience. The freedom to upload builds, worlds, and mods to the Steam Workshop transforms the game into a universe of its own, rather than just a game you play. ---- Pros - Modding Modding in this game is not only easy to access but actively encouraged. It’s simple to pick up and modify, with a few tutorials also available. Plus, the Steam Workshop is filled with an ever-growing collection of mods, adding near infinite replayability. - Art Style The chonky pixel art may not be for everyone, but for pixel lovers, the game oozes charm. Artists are also collaborating with the dev to create new sets, so the art style and options are constantly evolving. - Gameplay / Bugs Though the game is in Early Access, there are plenty of features to keep you entertained. Bugs are rare, and when they do appear, the dev is quick to fix them. The core gameplay is classic life-sim: create characters, live their lives, etc. But with modding, you can easily lose hours building custom lots and worlds! ---- Cons: - Upcoming Features As expected in Early Access, some features like pools, occults, and seasons aren’t included yet. However, the dev has outlined a clear roadmap of short and long term plans, with many exciting features on the way!

This VS Sims: As an avid sim franchise player, I was curious if this game would be just a rip off or something different. I will say that while the day to day play of the game is very similar to Sims, I feel like the simplicity of it brings it into a new light. It is a lot like sims 1 or 2 but those games are no longer available unless you still have the disks. Its a fun throwback for sure. I've also been in a bit of a burn-out with the sims lately with their bugged expansions and ripping of the mod community. It was nice to play something different. Game Play: The game runs extremely well on my PC. I haven't experienced any bugs or lags. The relationship styles, work levels, and day to day tasks are very basic at the moment, but the dev is very responsive and actively expanding the game! If you look at their website, they have a mapped out plan of future add-ons to the game. You have to remember that this game is still in the very early launch phases. I think there are a lot of things coming that could give this game a very unique game play. I also really feel like this game is adding on features that took sims years to finally add, and many of them weren't for free. Life Building: Skills and relationships are extremely easy to level up in the game. I had a relationship after hanging out twice. I level up at work almost every shift as long as I complete the at home tasks for promotions. From that perspective, it can make the game a little repetitive if you aren't looking for a quick run-through. Also, the dev is still expanding the depth of relationships, so marriages and social events don't exist yet. You can move in other tinies if you have a strong enough friendship as well as have children with romantic partners. I haven't explored having children yet just because I read that the pregnancy can feel long. I am interested in seeing how child development plays out in game. Building: If you are a pro sims builder looking for detailed building play, this definitely isn't the game for you. If you are horrible at building and just want to play a game with a basic house, this game is perfect. I have never been into the building side of sims so its not something I look for in other simulators. You can build your own houses, but the building styles are just basic block type layouts. You can't alt-move items. There are only about 2-3 varieties of each object to select, but they each have different qualities like improved sleep for certain beds or how much electricity/water appliances use. (This does affect bill prices each week) There are, however, lots of color choices in my opinion for most of the objects. Character Creation: Well tinies are just a bunch of pixels so it doesn't do much other than change colors for physical appearance. However, personality and interest building is a lot more in depth than I was expecting for an early release game. You can pick personality traits like creative, family oriented, ambitious, etc. You can also specify whether you tiny can get others pregnant, get pregnant, or not have children. There are, as you read from some of the more ignorant comments, pronouns but nothing other than what most other life simulators have - she/her, he/him, they/them. When you first meet someone, you see their name and pronouns. As the relationship builds, you can see personality traits, occupation, and pregnancy settings. Overall, the game is off to a good start and has a lot of potential. The devs are constantly building onto it, so if you like watching games grow like this, then definitely get it. If you want to wait until the game is a little more built out, then subscribe to the update list and buy it when you are ready. In my opinion, the game is pretty cheap and worth the early buy. PS: if the devs see this, you're doing great! thank you for working so hard on this game :)

Fun little game. It reminds me a lot of a certain original maxis game and it does scratch that itch. I'm looking forward to seeing this little beauty grow.

I have been playing the Sims franchise since I could remember, the Sims 1 was actually the first videogame I ever played back when I was in first grade. Since then it was love at first sight, and I played thousands of hours of each sequel after that, even going so far as to play many of the spin offs. So when I saw this game in the steam store, with is strong resemblance resemblance to the Sims 1, I had to check it out. I want to start by saying that the fact that a single dev has taken on creating a dollhouse style life simulator similar to the sims, is amazing and the dev should be recognized for this. There are very little games that scratch this particular itch, so huge kudos to the dev for making this in the first place. Some of the aspects of the game I want to go over are, its Steam Deck capabilities, the similarities to the sims, what I like about it so far, what I dont care for, LGBT themes, what I would like to see added in the future, and who I believe would enjoy this game. Steam Deck capabilities: This game does run great on the steam deck, I played for several hours on my steam deck. I will say, I did not care for building/furnishing on the deck. Now this is probably a skill issue on my part, because for whatever reason I just could not get fully used to the controls and I ended up finding myself very annoyed with furnishing the houses. Playing as your tinies I did like on my deck, so I ended up building/furnishing on my PC then sometimes picking up my deck to play as my families. I do genuinely reccomend this game for my fellow steam deck enjoyers, but the controls may take some getting used to. Similarities/differences to the sims: So this game is inspired by the sims and it shows. The aesthetics and building are a blast from the past for sure. However playing as your tinies isnt exactly the same as the sims 1. In my opinion this game is like the sims 1 but with the quality of life improvements we see in the sims 3. It is basically open world like sims 3. You can go from house to house, community lot, back to your house, with no loading screens. (school, and work are rabbit holes off screen). There also is emotions that are caused by interacting with people and objects like the sims 3. Your tiny may become energized from coffee, or feel embarassed from a romantic rejection. Obviously the sims has way more gameplay than tinylife. Tinylife is more like a simplified version. Dont go into this game thinking it will have every feature you're used to. LGBT Themes This dev has gotten a lot of hate for the gender/sex options in the game. I played this game as of 6/16 for the first time. You are able to select your pronouns (NB pronouns available) then you can select what your reproductive situation is. The pronouns are shown for each tiny out and about. Personally I do not see what the big deal is regarding this, as pronouns and trans/non binary inclusivity has been a thing since the Sims 4. This doesn't bother me whatsoever, in fact, it is a positive for me. But if that kind of thing turns you off, you probably will not like the vibes of the game. It is very LGBT friendly (there are even several LGBT flags you can purchase for your tinies' homes) What I liked: -Difficulty adjustment options: You do not have to babysit your tinies like you would in the sims , unless you want to! Tinylife allows you to adjust your difficulty so if you want a more chill experience, you can; or if you want a challenge like the sims 1 where you spend more time managing your family's mood, you can crank up that difficulty. -Building/furnishing (on PC) - I the building and furnishing was very nostalgic, and I liked the various furniture options so far. I know this game is early access, but for now it is lacking in furniture and decor, but that is likely to expand as the dev works on the game. -Cozy - the game has a cozy vibe. The music is relaxing, its not stressful, its a fun game to wind down and play. -Game Size, the game takes up little to no space What I did not like: -Tiny's Design - I hate to say it, I am not a fan of how the Tinies themselves look. A huge part of what makes games like the sims so fun is the character creation, but Tinylife's leaves me wishing for more. There are too few customization options to make your tinies look unique, and i just dont think they are that cute overall. Now this is just my completely personal opinion, but it is true. I wish they were just a bit better looking. - Not a lot of stuff for your Tinies to do together - They can talk and interact and all that, but beyond that, theres not much for them to do together. So when you invite others over its a lot of standing around and talking and thats about it. - Life goals difficulty are kind of wack. Household hero I was able to complete really quickly, but the Millionaire one is quite the grind. I feel like these should all be similar in difficulty to obtain (assuming no cheats are being used) What I would like to see added maybe - *I am not including anything that shows on the dev's page as being planned for the future already -Ghosts and paranormal -More activities for for tinies to do TOGETHER -More negative life events (getting sick, burglar,,, ect) -Make us pick a negative trait (and add a couple more of them) -Odd jobs that we can go out and do for other tinies. My tiny is great at tinkering, why cant i go over and upgrade my neighbors shower for some extra bucks? I dont always like my main tiny to work a traditional job, so an option like that could be fun to explore. -Family tree - need an easier way to keep track of who is related to who Who would enjoy this game? - If you are a lover of the sims, especially all the wacky spin offs, this game is worth your time, as long as you go into it remembering this is a single dev indie project, not a triple a game. You also would like this game if you are looking for a chill, cozy game to relax and play on your steam deck. Overall, I really enjoyed this game and I plan on following it as it gets updated to check out the new features. I definitely reccomend supporting this dev in taking on such an ambitious project like this expecially seeing these other companies dragging their feet to produce anything to compete with the sims. (even life by you was canceled. smh) The demo is completely free, so there is no reason not to give it a go.
