Despite the game's current condition, It's still a pretty cool game. Easy to learn controls as well.

It's unfortunate that this game will never be able to develop into what it could be because of the publisher's actions. Corporate greed was the cause to drop the the developers of this game which leaves TFH rotting here as a husk with a dead online landscape, busted and incomplete DLC characters, and a story mode that will never be finished. A shame really, TFH in my eyes would be one of the perfect fighting games for newbies to get to dip their feet into the community. It had great mechanics, the stock characters were vibrant and quirky and each had their own archetype that fits in the fighting game scene. Excluding what the publishers have done, I do recommend the game at least. Now, It just stands here as one of the many victims of greed. A walking corpse. May you rest in peace.

Them' Fightin Herds is/was a very special fighting game that I've ever played and I'm super casual at fighting games, I loved the whole background and struggle that original team went through; even getting help from Lauren Faust in designing the characters and the story mode concept was original and funny. The original 6 characters are amazing, but Stronghoof edges it out for me but it was very unfortunate learning of what happened to the original developer team by Maximum Entertainment and the disgusting practice they brought into this game and ruined the hard work of Mane6. Mane6- all team, if you're reading this. Keep pegasister and bronying on! I'm recommending this to support the original team's future employment but don't recommend Maximum Entertainment. All good things must come to an end at some point, don't cry but smile because it happened. It is my hope that someone else would purchase this game and put it back in esports at some point in the future.

EDIT: Review switched to recommended for the sake of the original developers, Mane6, not being penalized in searching for future employment. Do not buy this game in its current state regardless. I would love to recommend this game to others, but I can't in good conscience. Maximum Entertainment, the company that purchased TFH a few years back, laid off nearly the entirety of Mane6, the developers who brought this game to life. Furthermore, they did so in the middle of a season pass, leaving the final 2 characters added to the game buggy and broken. Do not purchase this game. Do not purchase anything from Maximum Games, including the upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender fighting game. Do not support a publisher that favors hiring fucking Mike Zaimont over keeping a passionate and excellent team of developers on board for one of the best fighting games ever made. Find another way to play it if you're interested. Maximum Entertainment deserves nothing but bankruptcy for what they've done to TFH and other past titles.

While it is sad that active development of this game will be ending soon (though it has been an impressive 7-year dedication, which we all must acknowledge), that shouldn't stop anyone from picking up this title's deluxe edition. First off, the story mode is very nuanced and inspired. There's a full story, some adventure elements, and, I must admit, it is cool to have a boss give you grief from the background. Though, as mentioned above, we'll likely never see the conclusion to the story, so a bit sad on that point. Never-the-less, the overall gameplay is solid. Special moves and supers are kept to simple haduken inputs, and the mechanics for just about every character are diverse, yet not super complicated once you see how they work in examples. You can pull off stellar combos, the palettes are fun to customize, and as a rushdown player myself, I had a blast with Shanty, truth be told. And, can we talk about the stages?! The fact that there are so many, with day, night, and twilight variants, AND amazing themes. That's a pretty deep layer of icing on an already meaty cake! If you couldn't tell by now, I love this game, and can't recommend it enough to other fighting game enthusiasts, as well as those who want to get into fighting games, but want something a little more cute-n'-cuddly for their first outing. The only downside I see is the lobbies. Either their at capacity, or they're ghost towns. My advice is to make sure you have some online or IRL friends who want to play and are already set up. Solid 9.5/10
