Quick menu

Inspired by the great ‘90s classics such as 'Monkey Island', 'Day of the Tentacle', 'Tony Tough' and 'Sam & Max: Hit the Road', "The Wardrobe" has a strong sense of humour, but isn't shy about dealing with mature and non-politically correct themes.

Very short game, though the puzzles can be a bit hard at times. Lots of miss-able achievements though, some of them are downright weird, not something you'd normally think of doing in such a game, but the game is fun and funny, and just downright great to play. Might actually go back at some point to pick up the missing achievements. Had a blast playing it, recommended if you're a point & click adventure fan.

pros ✅ good-looking, cartoony, and colorful hand-drawn background artwork and character models ✅ easy to use point and click interface ✅ when you press the space button, hotspots are highlighted, so there is no need to pixelhunt ✅ well made cartoony cut scenes ✅ there is a quick travel map, which prevents some backtracking ✅ a diverse, wacky, quirky, humorous, and colorful cast of side characters ✅ decent voice acting ✅ there are some fun pop culture references to famous movies, video games, books and iconic fictional characters from them ✅ there are some funny dialogues and fourth wall-breaking moments. ✅ a funny and cartoony story about an undead and skeletonized preteen trying to reach out to his best friend ✅ there is a tutorial in the beginning ✅ there are steam achievements and cards cons ❌ game is short ❌ there are plenty of obtuse and unintuitive puzzles with nonsensical solutions. I recommend playing with an open walkthrough in case you re stuck ❌ there is no hint system for obscure puzzles with nonsensical solutions; therefore, generally, you don't know what to do. a hint system would be really helpful ❌ don't expect a substantial and deep story that will whack your brain ❌ the ending is abrupt and weak. Overall, this is a decent point-and-click game that reminds me of old LucasArts point-and-click adventure games like Day of the Tentacle from the 1990s.

Ok, I agree the main character maybe is a bit harsh with the player, but it's in the mood of the story. In my opinion it depends from the frustration you get all the times you think you've found the solution and the character replies you are wrong. I think the success of a pnc adventure stays on the good balance between difficulty of the riddles and ability to achieve them. Because if they are too easy, then the game is boring, but if they are difficult (I mean not logical) the satisfaction when you achieve them is overwhelmed by a sense of frustration. Consider I finished the game without walkthroughs, but I remained stuck for almost a year because I didn't find an item, buried in those tons of graphics even if very pretty and beautifully drawn. So, I recommend this game, designed with passion and by an Italian team: I enjoyed it, but prepare to face a hard struggle for a little "hidden object game" feeling and some "non logical" instead of "out of the box" solution. Last but not least: unfortunately, as most of the pnc adventures, seems that the last part is hurried. Usually you expect an explosive final, and also in this game, it seems the programmers needed to close the project as soon as possible.

"The Wardrobe" is a visually appealing point and click adventure game similar to other modern titles like Deponia and other Daedalic games, but with a higher level of polish and programming. The common bugs found in Daedalic titles are absent, ensuring a smoother gameplay experience. The game features good voice acting that enhances the overall immersion. The puzzles, for the most part, are well-crafted, but towards the end of the game, they become overly intricate, perhaps unnecessarily so. Some players may find themselves resorting to guides to navigate through these final challenges. While "The Wardrobe" presents a simple story, the characters lack depth and fail to convey a profound message. The game heavily relies on nostalgic references to the 80s and 90s to compensate for its relatively thin narrative, setting, character development, and world-building. These references often feel disconnected from the main storyline and the game world, serving more as fan service to players familiar with the era. Interactions with most characters in the game seem superfluous, as they lack significant relevance to the plot or puzzle-solving mechanics. The music in the game is ok but not particularly noteworthy. Despite its adequate length for a point and click game, the conclusion of "The Wardrobe" feels abrupt and lacks emotional depth or a sense of closure, leaving the overall experience somewhat flat. In summary, "The Wardrobe" is a charming game with several narrative shortcomings. While it may appeal to players seeking a visually pleasing experience with nostalgic nods to the past, its reliance on references and lack of narrative depth may leave some players wanting more in terms of storytelling.

Love all the references found in this game!! It's pretty difficult though if you don't have any experience playing this type of genre (i.e Day of the Tentacle or Broken Age). Artwork is great and the dark humor's great--instantly be a classic in my books if you enjoy more complex point-and-click games.
