"The Void Rains Upon Her Heart" is a bullet-hell shoot-'em-up with roguelite elements, developed by Veyeral Games where players control the heart of an alien girl trapped in a cave, using the power of love to befriend and overcome various monsters. Each defeated foe offers gifts that enhance the heart's abilities, culminating in a final battle against the Void. It feels like a fantastic practice tool for competitive online games that require precision and speed. Gameplay: The game emphasizes boss rush mechanics, presenting players with a series of randomly selected encounters, each with unique attack patterns and difficulty levels. After each battle, players receive random gifts that permanently upgrade abilities for the duration of the run, introducing a strategic element of choice and adaptation. In this sense it is much like Nebulock, another title I am passionate about. Soundtrack and Sound Effects: The soundtrack is original and tailored to each boss, effectively capturing their distinct personalities and enhancing the overall gaming experience. The sound effects are mellow, what else can I say... Graphics: Featuring pixel art, the game combines cute and cheerful visuals with more intense and otherworldly designs, especially evident in the final bosses. This blend creates a unique and engaging aesthetic. In few words, simple but original Bosses: With over 100 bosses, each battle offers a unique experience. Bosses vary in difficulty and attack patterns, providing both challenge and variety. Players can influence the difficulty by selecting which bosses to face, tailoring their experience. I have spoken with many friends now, vouching for this sort of game, where value is given to enemy mechanics inside na arena like platform, instead of traveling through maps and levels wasting time and developer resources Replayability: The procedurally generated nature of boss encounters, combined with a vast array of gifts and power-ups, ensures high replayability. Each run feels distinct, encouraging players to explore different strategies and combinations. It is a title to fall to when you need a short stint session but still skill up Difficulty: The game's difficulty is dynamic, allowing players to choose easier or more challenging bosses. This flexibility caters to both newcomers and seasoned players, providing a customizable experience. Summary: "The Void Rains Upon Her Heart" masterfully combines bullet-hell action with roguelite elements, offering a fresh take on the genre. Its engaging gameplay plus a distinctive art style make it a standout title for both casual and hardcore gamers. Summary: 9.1/10 gaming scale Final thoughts: After clearing the main campaign and, as I comeback for new sessions or new updates arise by developers, I intend to keep revising this review. If you so wish, do leave in the comments your view about the title and your top scores

We need more games like this. Oozing with style, passion and creativity. I've never played a shoot-em-up before but when I saw it in a Yakkocmn video(bless you yakko) I knew I needed to play it at first glance, and I was soooo right. What's great about the gameplay? Few buttons you have to press but a lot of depth in each one. Even a button that just slows you down allows for so much creativity in how you dodge attacks it's insane. But the best mechanic that makes the game so fun is the love combo - if you don't hit the boss for a second or take damage, you lose the combo. It's that simple, but it changes how you play completely and forces you to actively think, "how do I both dodge an attack and keep hitting the boss, preferably also hitting the breakable parts of the boss? Do I need to use a panic to keep my combo or do I greed it for a harder attack?". And a lot of attacks are intentionally designed to make you want to dodge them in a way that'll lose you the combo. The other kind of gameplay is out-of-combat and it's also nothing like I've seen in other roguelites. When you've just started playing the game, you don't even know which boss you're gonna fight and what rewards you're gonna get, basically going in blind. There's no stat upgrades between runs, instead you upgrade your KNOWLEDGE by revealing the bosses and items in between runs - the higher your scores, the more currency you get to reveal stuff. Gradually, you go from blind to half-blind, now you can choose between going for a safe option you've revealed or pray to the RNG gods that you get a good item. This is essentially the difficulty slider, because as you reveal items and unlock events that allow you to trade items, the game gets a lot easier. But at the same time you unlock new modes, harder difficulties, new bosses, new characters and even more items to make up for that a bit. Honestly, I think the game is more fun before you've unlocked everything, but I don't think you can get around that. The bosses? They are amazing, plenty of variety and creativity in designs in attacks and I love the classifications of them into different types. But there's an elephant in the room and it's that there's a lot of bosses that are "reskins" of the other bosses with a different color and similar attacks. Of course I'd rather have them than not as they still add variety and challenge but it does make the "100+ bosses!" claim a bit misleading. The characters? The designs are unique and cute, and not just the playable characters, a lot of the bosses have a cute girlified "true form". Because this is a game about loving and not beating the bosses, there's a lot of dialogue between each character and monster, it's very cute and cheesy and I love it. Every character is a girl! A lot of monsters have their events that you encounter in between battles which feature different mini games and dialogue for some variety in between battles. The big no no for most people I've seen complain about the game is the "nudity", but there's no genitals or nipples drawn and personally I stopped even perceiving it as nudity after I played the game for a bit. Embarrassed to play the game in front of your friends and family? Your loss buddy, tell them that they are wrong and ackchyually, this game rocks. Also, don't let the Early Access scare you off, there's plenty of content already that is MORE than worth the price. There are still some bosses and events to be added and the story of some characters is unfinished but that's about it. A word of appreciation for the absolute madlad that is Veyerals for making a game like this alone and going at it with his own vision for years, keep it up king we'll be there for the final release!

This is the first game in years that made me feel like a child. That sense of exploration before you had expectations and before you knew what genres are out there. Just basking in the work on it's own terms. Of course after a few hours you understand how the game works so that feeling wears off, but good thing it's an excellent and massive videogame even after the initial honeymoon

i cannot stand for this game to not be one of the big pillars of the roguelike space. this is one of the best games i have ever played and single handedly made me see the appeal of both roguelikes and bullet hell games, both of which i thought i hated before deciding to y this game. the core premise of the game is that you are an alien on a planet where everyone looses their memory every day, and you are trying to stop the evil rain that has been happening before you forget everything. the story surrounding the game is just gorgeous and the gameplay derived from this setting is PERFECT for roguelike progression. on that note, the way progression is handled is almost completely horizontal. at the start of the game, you cannot see any monsters or upgrades you will get until you obtain/fight them. after your run ends however, this will all reset and you wont see what anything is anymore again. the way you mitigate this is with the radiate system. between run, you can use the ingame currencies to radiate upgrades and monsters to be able to see what they are before hand. this strikes the perfect balance between roguelike and roguelite progression for me because instead of your character getting more powerful, it leads to you obtaining more control over your build leading to you becoming more powerful more often by consequence. i never thought a boss rush roguelike would work, its impossible to have enough variety of bosses to have runs be different enough to not become repetitive. well here comes void rain over here to break the laws of reality and manages to do it anyway. sure there are plenty of bosses that look similar, some are recolors or simply use the same model. but i would pay you a million dollars if you could find 2 bosses in this game that you could even consievably consider "a reskin". this game has over 100 freaking bosses at the time of this review!!! that is completely insane. i've played this game for over 46 hours at this time, and i still am finding plenty of new bosses all the time and all of them are absolute peak!!!. and even amongst the insane number of bosses, i still remember so many of them. off the top of my head, i really love calorie, they force you into strictly vertical movement at one point and it was just soo cool, all the veyerals look similar on the surface but all do such different things. and the optional challenges that are part of each monster are an amazing touch. (some of these are super duper hard, like the one where you have to beat frozen veyeral without hitting them a single time and only hitting their orbs that orbit them, super tough). and that's not even to mention that each monster has multiple levels that change their bullet patterns, give new attacks, and even sometimes add additional mechanics!!! while a large group of upgrades in this game are stat changes, the depth that can come from these are nothing to scoff at. while an upgrade called "double time" on the surface seems like it would be a simple speed and shot speed buff. it feels like using an entirely different weapon. its like the difference of a assault rifle to a minigun. and that's still ignoring the large majority of super unique upgrades! like reflection which mirrors all your shots behind you, or umbrella which creates a safety bubble that destroys any shot that tries to enter it. the build variety is pretty insane. i have a single critique of this game, and that's that panic attacks (this games form of blanks) are a bit too easy to aquire a lot of at once when you radiate a lot of the panic attack upgrades. so fix that, i think there should be a hard cap of panics you can have at once, or make it so they disapear if you have too many for too long. the game is still in early access, but has more content then any other indie game you've probably played before. (don't quote me on that, you get the idea). even if you don't like these kinds of games, buy it for the sake of supporting this wonderful dev, and you might even enjoy it anyway like i did. it respects all skill levels and always feels so satisfying. this is the only game ever that i thought i had a responsibility to get more people to play. in this review i only ever mentioned early game stuff for the sake of avoiding spoilers, but just know if i didn't care so much about spoiling anything, i would have so much more to say about so many of the later bosses and upgrades, just trust me on this one and drop the 15 dollars, its an absolute masterpiece.
