This is the first game in years that made me feel like a child. That sense of exploration before you had expectations and before you knew what genres are out there. Just basking in the work on it's own terms. Of course after a few hours you understand how the game works so that feeling wears off, but good thing it's an excellent and massive videogame even after the initial honeymoon

i cannot stand for this game to not be one of the big pillars of the roguelike space. this is one of the best games i have ever played and single handedly made me see the appeal of both roguelikes and bullet hell games, both of which i thought i hated before deciding to y this game. the core premise of the game is that you are an alien on a planet where everyone looses their memory every day, and you are trying to stop the evil rain that has been happening before you forget everything. the story surrounding the game is just gorgeous and the gameplay derived from this setting is PERFECT for roguelike progression. on that note, the way progression is handled is almost completely horizontal. at the start of the game, you cannot see any monsters or upgrades you will get until you obtain/fight them. after your run ends however, this will all reset and you wont see what anything is anymore again. the way you mitigate this is with the radiate system. between run, you can use the ingame currencies to radiate upgrades and monsters to be able to see what they are before hand. this strikes the perfect balance between roguelike and roguelite progression for me because instead of your character getting more powerful, it leads to you obtaining more control over your build leading to you becoming more powerful more often by consequence. i never thought a boss rush roguelike would work, its impossible to have enough variety of bosses to have runs be different enough to not become repetitive. well here comes void rain over here to break the laws of reality and manages to do it anyway. sure there are plenty of bosses that look similar, some are recolors or simply use the same model. but i would pay you a million dollars if you could find 2 bosses in this game that you could even consievably consider "a reskin". this game has over 100 freaking bosses at the time of this review!!! that is completely insane. i've played this game for over 46 hours at this time, and i still am finding plenty of new bosses all the time and all of them are absolute peak!!!. and even amongst the insane number of bosses, i still remember so many of them. off the top of my head, i really love calorie, they force you into strictly vertical movement at one point and it was just soo cool, all the veyerals look similar on the surface but all do such different things. and the optional challenges that are part of each monster are an amazing touch. (some of these are super duper hard, like the one where you have to beat frozen veyeral without hitting them a single time and only hitting their orbs that orbit them, super tough). and that's not even to mention that each monster has multiple levels that change their bullet patterns, give new attacks, and even sometimes add additional mechanics!!! while a large group of upgrades in this game are stat changes, the depth that can come from these are nothing to scoff at. while an upgrade called "double time" on the surface seems like it would be a simple speed and shot speed buff. it feels like using an entirely different weapon. its like the difference of a assault rifle to a minigun. and that's still ignoring the large majority of super unique upgrades! like reflection which mirrors all your shots behind you, or umbrella which creates a safety bubble that destroys any shot that tries to enter it. the build variety is pretty insane. i have a single critique of this game, and that's that panic attacks (this games form of blanks) are a bit too easy to aquire a lot of at once when you radiate a lot of the panic attack upgrades. so fix that, i think there should be a hard cap of panics you can have at once, or make it so they disapear if you have too many for too long. the game is still in early access, but has more content then any other indie game you've probably played before. (don't quote me on that, you get the idea). even if you don't like these kinds of games, buy it for the sake of supporting this wonderful dev, and you might even enjoy it anyway like i did. it respects all skill levels and always feels so satisfying. this is the only game ever that i thought i had a responsibility to get more people to play. in this review i only ever mentioned early game stuff for the sake of avoiding spoilers, but just know if i didn't care so much about spoiling anything, i would have so much more to say about so many of the later bosses and upgrades, just trust me on this one and drop the 15 dollars, its an absolute masterpiece.

Angel Polanco, I just want to say that your game is absolutely incredible! The game design, music, and dialogues are simply outstanding. The decision-making is on another levelā€”with so many variables to consider, from deciding who you want to love to which build you are go for. The music is amazing, especially during the final boss fight. I love the moment when the Wall of Void gets closer, and that track starts playing, but you're still struggling to deal enough damage, making one last desperate push to finish the fight. As for the dialogues, in most games, they tend to be drawn-out and tedious, but here they donā€™t feel like that at all. You managed to make them concise, charming, and informativeā€”giving insights about the world, mechanics, and so on. Itā€™s a real pleasure! Itā€™s sad that so few people have played this game. If I were a big YouTuber, I would promote this game non-stop for free. To those who didnā€™t get the game, I highly recommend giving it a try. You wonā€™t regret it! Lastly, I truly hope you finish the game and make it as perfect as you possibly can, even though youā€™ve already surpassed all expectations.

An incredibly heartwarming shoot-em-up that provides replay value through its sheer amount of content: monsters to be loved, gifts to be received, adorable characters to be met, and an extensive bestiary to fill out. Encounters and rewards are randomized, making each run feels unique and different from the last. You're in control of the difficulty curve throughout each run - choose low-level monsters to ensure your survival, or face high-level monsters in the hopes of earning their more powerful items. Mini-challenges add a unique twist to most encounters, rewarding you with more items for clearing a stage under certain restrictions, such as exceeding a score threshold or not using the panic button. In addition to the rain of bullets to be dodged, the game's combo system plays an important role for scoring and challenges, encouraging the player to remain vertically aligned with each monster and time their charge shots in order to maintain their combo. The combo will expire if no bullets touch the monster for a few seconds, but the combo meter is generously paused during attacks without a clear shot towards the monster, making it possible to full-combo-clear each encounter. The game's UI between encounters and runs is thoughtfully designed, with countless quality-of-life features in place: confirmations/hold timers for irreversible actions, re-watchable dialogue scenes, an intermission screen for achievements after each encounter, skippable transitions, unlock condition indicators, among many others! The options menu also offers significant customizability: the ability to configure key bindings can't be taken for granted in the shoot-em-up genre (a feeling I'm sure any other QWERTZ user who's tried playing Touhou games can relate to). The Void Rains Upon Her Heart is a true passion project (hi, fellow gamedev who can't ever let go of their baby), and the attention to detail and meticulous care put into each aspect of this game's design and development can be felt at every moment. I'm very grateful to the kind friend who recommended this game to me, as I might not have come across it otherwise, so I'd like to pass on the favor and spread the word. I love this game, and so should you! This Unit is experiencing a sudden rise in temperature.
