Feeling absurdly emotional about this game ;( This is not a cozy, relaxing farming game. It is not exciting. Its an emotional experience. It didnt even make me happy. I felt depressed, and awful. I was essentially playing out my worst fears. And thats why I recommend it. You are old, and you are alone, the rest of the world moves on without you, but there is joy to have in the simple life of a farmer. You have flowers to tend to, chickens and goats to take care of. You can laugh at the simple things around you. But then you find memories, buried in the desert, and the letters from home turn frightening, and your loved ones slowly stop writing. You have nightmares. The laughter and songs stop coming. The wolves come at night. The birds disappear, even your chickens from a locked coop. The storms come. The flowers die. The cheese rots in the storeroom. What did you store all that much for, are you going to live long enough to use them? She is scared, and she is alone, and the days are going by too fast for her, faster than they should. Everything she loves is disappearing slowly, and soon, she will too. This is a beautiful game about sadness and loss and the inevitability of age and death. But it is done so softly, so quietly, that the ache had settled into my heart before I even realised it.

Just to preface this isn’t a story with a happy ending, but it doesn’t need one frankly. You are old, you are alone, your only knowledge of the world outside your farm are the letters from your family, the conversations with the trader, and the slow changes occurring in your environment. All of them signal that things are changing, and they’re changing for the worst. But no one has answers as to what’s happening and all you can do is slowly go about your days as you always have, until you can’t. Play this if you’re looking to play something simple and short yet deeply emotional and artistic. Just make sure you go into it with the mindset that this isn’t an experience you can Win. I cannot describe the investment I felt in making sure this old lonely woman stayed alive, had plenty to eat, and plenty to bargain with so that she could continue build a stable life. And I cannot describe the anxiety I felt as the letters from her family kept getting worse. I started stockpiling and basically doomer prepping as much as I could. Even though mama Talma is in her last years I couldn’t let go of the need to help her survive. And then there’s no food in the cupboards, there’s no food for the goats, all the birds are gone and the chickens have disappeared. And all that work leads to the same end. On a logical level I am not disappointed by the ending, you sort of get the idea that it’s going to end a certain way after all your efforts have been rendered moot. But on an emotional level I could not let go of hope. Or maybe I was just hoping to understand.

The game was frustrating most of the times, but it was bittersweet. The days felt long and tiresome since Talma is so slow. But then I started to miss the amount of chores when the days became bleaker. The dialogues and pages (of books, maybe) felt extremely personal and beautiful. The letters were all sweet except for the last ones. They, legit, made me cry. Overall, the game is a reminder of how everything changes and death is inevitable. A truly wonderful experience to have lived Talma's life through this game.

If you cannot enjoy a game that is really slow-paced and requires a lot of reading, feel free to skip this. Hell, If you want to try, get it on sale. The game follows the life of Talma, an elderly woman who lives a simple life on her homestead. While her family, one by one, left for the city across the sea, they still keep in touch by sending letters to Talma about their lives there. The game starts with you playing as Talma, spending a day in her routine. But Talma won't be able to do everything because she is really slow. That's the whole point and you can't blame. So, it's up to you how you want to spend Talma's time each day until the end. I'm telling you again, though this game is short, it's really slow-paced to enjoy and you need to read to understand the story as it's delivered through texts. Mostly, it is delivered through mail sent by a peddler but you can interact with objects and places, she'll share a bit the story behind them. Overall, the story is quite beautiful and somewhat sad or dark. I spent an hour just getting to know the stuff. Here's the start, you have 2 seed in your pocket to plant, can collect eggs from chicken coop, pat two goats, then milk them, and bring the milk to the cheesemaker to have 3 cheeses by Day 1. I tried not to make Talma sleep for 3 days, and nothing went bad. I spent it for wandering in the desert (where you can find collectibles like mushrooms, which is good for trading), so sleeping is just for skipping the night routine. The peddler (or trader) will come on Day 2, and if you're close to the well but the bucket is on your homestead, just use 'Reset item position'. DO NOT LET THE GOATS OUT. So, my first playthrough was mostly like that, spending the night routine wandering around the desert to collect mushrooms or do something I hadn't finished during the day. Here's the thing: I decided to change some plans in my second playthrough, and I got a different ending. That means there are multiple endings, but I don't know how many. This game reminds me about my grandma, she lived in a village, and she was not alone—some of her children or family decided to live near her home. I still remember back then my mom used to send mail to keep in touch with my grandma while we're living in the city. I miss my village, seeing cows, chickens, goats, and wandering. After seeing Talma doing her day, it reminds me of my grandma and her village. If you want to know more about the stuff, https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2138572572

Short version: Grandma has shotgun and autoaim, 10/10 Longer version: Before buying consider the fact that it's a realistic old person simulator, so: extremely slow walking speed can't carry more than 1 thing at a time get tired quickly boring routine barely any dialogue are the things that are supposed to be here. The main plot is told through letters (which you can't miss, by the way, cause I saw someone's review saying they missed them. The mailbox is right there?) which there aren't many of, and the story is good. The whole point of the game is gradually immersing yourself into the slow rouitne and life of an old lady, and if you do that, all story points and the game's ending will hit you in the feels. Maybe buy when it's on sale, cause there's not much more to the game than what I already described.
