Before I say anything, it should be noted that this is a direct upload of the original 2009 CDROM, not a modern rerelease. SteamDB shows the depot listed on the Steam store as early as 2013, where it sat with essentially no changes until its sudden release in 2024 (Presumably due to licensing issues). It launches in 800x600 by default and can only be changed via an external program dedicated to graphical settings. Steam says that there’s no native controller support, but if you just manually enable it in the game’s properties, you’ll find everything correctly mapped with the corresponding UI changes, which is relief because the PC controls are just awful. With that out of the way, this is undoubtedly one of the most underrated seventh gen games of all time, and I believe the first game I ever got 100% completion on. So glad to see it finally get an official Steam release, and a very reasonably priced one at that. There are some minor audio-visual issues, but it runs pretty smoothly with the exception of a CTD every 10 hours or so; a bug I vaguely recall experiencing on the 360 version as well. With frequent saving, it’s a non-issue. I’m a little disappointed that there aren’t any achievements given that all of the console releases have them, but due to the apparent testing the day before release, I guess they just couldn’t get it to work. Doesn’t really matter, I got 100% anyway. I often see this game compared to GTA, but to offer an alternative perspective, this is a must have for fans of classic Assassin’s Creed.

Now we need Mercs 1 & 2 and we'll all be happy, but this is a good start, and we also DEMAND the entirety of the Medal of Honor series (especially Frontline, my personal favorite) Really cool open-world game of it's time, a bit jank but well worth it .

On sale for $5 with this game without the pesky EA launcher is 100% worth the buy even in 2024. A $5 game that far surpasses something like Suicide Squad.... No installation or launching with another launcher. Just install, boot up the game, and play. EA keep doing releases like this without your launcher PLEASE.

Steam Deck users look here! If you want controller support through the Steam Deck, press the STEAM button when in the game, navigate to "Controller Settings", then choose the standard "Gamepad with Joystick" preset out of Steam Input's own list. Basically just make sure Steam Input is properly ON. Then quit and restart. For some reason, this makes the game suddenly recognize that a controller is "connected" and the controller options open up in the main menu. If you want to make your own button config in-game after that, you can do that too I'm sure. Also don't forget to set your resolution in the video launch settings before you play! (I recommend 720p instead of 800p for this game on the Deck.) - - - With that out of the way, the game launches fine and looks great on the Steam Deck. No tweaking necessary so far apart from the video settings, which is the only thing you need to navigate with the cursor one time. Will update the review more once I've finished the prologue, but so far so good! EDIT: The prologue and everything around it ran absolutely fine, with no issues to performance or anything like that on the Deck so far! I'm impressed by how well it holds up, and I can't wait to play through it all on the go, just like the PS3 times. Nobody drinks alone in Paris. Thank you EA; This was a rare but terrific move on your part! Keep bringing more classic games over to Steam and I'll buy them too, especially knowing some of them work on the Deck.

BEFORE STARTING A NEW GAME! Options>Gameplay>Nudity On Thank me later. It’s basically GTA in occupied France in WW2. But seriously though I can’t believe I finally get to play this game again. I hated it when I first played it back on Xbox 360 because the world was grey, like literally grey. I thought the entire game was gonna be in grey with no colour but then you liberate certain areas from the Germans and it goes colourful and regains its colour. It was such a hidden gem, shame Pandemic was shut down they made some absolute classics.
