This is exactly the kind of experience that I purchased a VR headset for. While it's certainly a short experience, the environments, the exploration, and the hands-on puzzle solving made this game stand out as one of the best VR experiences I've had so far. I really appreciated that this game maintains a spooky/creepy vibe throughout, but never delves into being a horror game with any sort of jump scares.

I wouldn't recommend this for $30 - it's very short at about 3.5 hours and the mechanics are dated by modern VR standards - but it's not a bad little puzzle game, if you can get it on sale. The presentation does set you up for a bit of a disappointment, though. Shortly after you start, you end up in front of a plinth with 4 triangle markers that fit an artefact you just found which unlocks the first chapter so it seems like you will play 4 chapters, one for each artefact, and you kind of do but I don't know if they ran out of time or budget or what but the 4th chapter is basically nothing so you're left with a "That's it?" feeling at the end. Chapters 1 and 3 are about an hour long, Chapter 2 is a little longer, maybe 1.5 hours, and then Chapter 4 is like 10 minutes, no joke. The story also set up this conflict that just sort of vanishes in the 4th chapter and your character doesn't do anything to resolve it so I get the feeling this definitely intended to have a more fleshed out ending but it was cut short for whatever reason. The first 3 chapters are pretty good, though. It's a lot of escape room style puzzles where everything is kind of obvious and you just have to run around trying to sequence everything together in the right order. It's fun, though, and well-polished. Not the best puzzle game in VR but not bad, either. Just get it on sale.

The Room VR was a fine little jaunt into the VR puzzle room space. At 3-5 hours though, I cant recommend it at full price but, on a decent sale, its not a bad pick up. The environments are pretty cozy and puzzles range from baby mode to head scratcher. I was disappointed that it only has teleport movement and it dose suffer from the point and click, stick your inventory items into every space you think they might go until it works, syndrome. But the story is interesting, graphically its pleasing and I enjoyed it enough to keep me coming back for 4 sessions to finish. If you find it for a good price and like puzzle games, its not at all a bad grab.

The Room VR is well... another entry in The Room series. Let me rephrase that. This game is very similar in the way you interact with objects and solve puzzles as the rest of The Room entries. This game assumes you've played the others and wastes little time getting into the meat of the game. The puzzles are fun, but nothing ground-breaking for the series and the shorter length doesn't help it that much. However, where I think this game excels is in it's presentation. The Room series has always prided itself on its atmosphere, but experiencing the various locations and interacting with the puzzles in a VR setting is a game changer. Engaging with many of the series' established mechanics such as shrinking down to climb into machines is so much more immersive and potentially terrifying and it's great! Maybe not worth the full price, but on sale this is a must play for fans of the series.
