a sweet lil experience~ The artwork is just fantastic, i was constantly taking space to just marvel at how pretty and lovingly detailed everything is. overall it just has this chill, ethereal and often spooky vibe that i really enjoyed. even just walking, watching the multiple layers of the backgrounds scroll past one another, seeing little birds and butterflies and listening to the sound of the rain is so luvely; meditative, at times. the sound effects are great, and the music is wonderful! i loved this one pipa song in particular, with these cool dual vocals. the few times vocals pop up in this game (in a couple songs and the narrator during the intro, who kills it), they really stood out to me, they had a kind of eerie drawl to them and were produced really well. the puzzles are all quite unique, and never got repetitive. unfortunately some of them are not explained very well as to what you're supposed to be doing, so i did have to consult a walk-through a couple times, or mess around a bit before i understood, but it wasn't enough to frustrate me, and i was always satisfied when i finally cracked open what to do. some of the puzzles are quite simple, and sum are definitely a lil trickier, at least for me. with my dyscalculia I struggled with the cpl puzzles that had math elements more than most ppl will hehe, tho i actually quite enjoyed using an abacus in one of those puzzles. the characters are interesting (especially all the strange spirits and otherworldly beings), yet not super deep or anything, and the story is entertaining yet fairly straightforward, but it's obv really going for more of a mythical folktale kind of approach so i actually liked the simple way it's all presented; there is a certain depth you can feel behind so much of it due to its explorations & depictions of Chinese mythology & culture. it has it's moments of poetics and more casual banter that are nice spices in the mix. there is a cool element of exploring memories and changing timelines, so things get a lil dreamy and trippy as you switch from past to present, to a different present, and between the earthly realm and the underworld. there are really pretty flowers you can find and collect to send to ur friend's garden in the underworld (& record in your notebook), and if you collect them all you unlock an additional scene. I'm still missing a couple flowers after my first playthrough, but you unlock a mode where you can replay specific scenes to get the ones you missed if you want to. i probly will at sum point, when i want to soak in this game's atmosphere again~ aphantasia-wise, there is no map, but the areas are all small enough and everything is so unique that it isn't the kind of game where you have to worry about getting lost. Some of the puzzles do require you to remember things, including a couple of visual memory puzzles, but there is a "clues" section in your notebook where everything gets automatically added to that you can reference anytime, so that was v helpful. Also, sometimes if u fail a puzzle a few times, one of your companions will chime in to offer help if u'd like. overall i found it to be very accessible for me~ the biggest critique i have is that there is no manual save, only auto-save points. I really don't like when games don't let u save at any point... sometimes life is life-ing, yknow? luckily the scenes aren't suuper long and its a shorter game overall. this plus what i mentioned earlier about how some of the puzzles aren't explained very well and cause a little bit of unnecessary confusion. i definitely recommend checkin this one out! there's a demo, and it'd be worth even just playin that to experience how pretty it is and it's unique vibes~ its not too long, it took me 4.5 hours to hit credits. i'm really intrigued by this game and the makers Misty Mountain Studio, v curious to see what they end up doing with The Rewinder 2! <3

Beautiful art and story. I love Chinese mythology and this game uses it very well. The rewind mechanic is good, but I wish we could skip the cutscenes completely when we restart. I highly recommend it if you love puzzle.

ehhh it was alright Im always a fan of time rewind mechanic in games, which was executed quite well IMO The story was interesting, but a bit slow at the start The setting was also cool, DLC was good too BUT When you restart from a checkpoint the cutscenes arent skippable, having to recollect the memory things was also eh Either I missed something or some of the puzzles were explained poorly (got stuck on the scale one for way too long because I didnt realize the heavy one goes 5/10/15/20 instead of linear, which is mb tbh) Sometimes its not quite as apparent that you can walk somewhere when outside? Some areas exist just for the flower collectible Shift could have been sprint instead of a slow walk toggle Go for it if you are into the time gimmick, otherwise id give this a pass

A very well made game with very interesting rewind mechanics but the main focus on the game is the narrative and they made it very good as well, I can't wait for the next game from this awesome developer!
