A fun RPG worth checking out imo. It has a lot to offer and is charming in many ways, although it certainly doesn't hold your hand. I've always found the early game to be fairly difficult and even a little tedious, but once you have a proper build and equipment it's enjoyable. I really want the card mini-game to be its own separate app; I've spent quite a while just playing that because it's so entertaining!

Return to fantasy childhood In an era of flashy graphics and complex mechanics, The Quest stands as a nostalgic tribute to the golden age of role-playing adventures. Originally released for mobiles and later remastered for PC, this hand-drawn world embraces old-school design principles, featuring grid movements and turn-based combat that hark back to classics like Daggerfall, Ultima, and Might and Magic. Studio Redshift has crafted a game that feels both familiar and refreshing, inviting to explore the kingdom of Monares with the freedom to forge your own path through a richly detailed world. The Quest‘s charm lies not just in its core gameplay but also in overall style and presentation. Hand-drawn environments, primitive 3D, and character sprites designs combined with 1990s lyrical music evoke a sense of nostalgia. This attention to detail creates an immersive experience that encourages exploration and experimentation, reminiscent of the way early RPGs rewarded players for their curiosity. The game’s structure allows for both lengthy sessions and quick runs, while staying true to its roots. Although The Quest may not innovate within the genre, it still excels in delivering a polished, enjoyable story for all RPG enthusiasts. So if you are one of them, yearning for a taste of a fantasy retro journey, The Quest is an adventure worth embarking on. And a friendly tip at the end: be sure to save some rotten food and contaminated water along your play. You’ll thank yourself later when given one particular mission in the undead city. Otherwise, you risk spending a dozen frustrating days searching for goods crucial for further story progression.

Massive RPG!, old school sword, sorcerery, and adventure. It's the quintessential RPG feeling. Definitely try it just take it for what it is, an old school grid dungeon crawler.

Port of an IOS mobile game that began it's life for PALM devices if you can believe it. It's simple yet satisfying. You spend more of your time above ground travelling and exploring than in dungeons. There is a fully developed wiki if you get stuck. I did every side quest possible and finished the main story around ~23 hours. It moves on a grid, so sometimes combat can be a little awkward especially if you're ranged and someone is coming at you from a corner you basically have no chance of hitting them before they're on you. Read up a bit before creating a character as some skills are worthless (looking at you, thief premade class).

A nice little adventure with a generic name befitting it's strong handling of RPG fundamentals. Sort of a turn-based take on the more open-ended exploration popular in the Elder Scrolls series, but probably with better writing and a tighter focus. The world is big, but it is neither empty nor so big that you end up wandering for ages going from one town to another. Every skill and system in the game feels useful, with crafting enchanted equipment, brewing potions, and all manner of status effects serving as legitimate and valuable aspects of the game. While you can hyper-specialize, you don't really get the sense that you "chose wrongly" with regards to how you built your character due to the lack of "dead skills" that don't really contribute to your journey. The economy is also shockingly good, with gold freely flowing into and out of your coffers at an alarming rate. With skill trainers, equipment, and tons of expendable gear to purchase you never lose the excitement of finding a cache of gold or a rare gem to sell (at least I haven't 25 hours into the game and well into the Fire and Ice expansion). The combat could be a bit better, as it often devolves into a bit of a slugfest, and some of the status conditions can be a pain in the ass (catching herpes off a mummy for the dozenth time is a pain in the ass), but larger fights with powerful enemies will have you carefully charting your plan of attack and using the environment to your advantage so thats cool.
