It's essentially the same as it was in the DreadX collection, but with some minor improvements. If you liked it there, you may also like it in standalone form here

Love the real passion driven development, fueled from inspirations of the past that I have also experienced. Have never had a bad time playing any of these devs games. What David Szymanski does in regards to games is the exact same thing I want to do. Seriously admirable. Would recommend every single game he's put out.

Friendship is magic ...but magic is heresy Bearing a title hinting at the right kind of dark humour, The Pony Factory has hit the Steam’s proverbial shelves at the beginning of 2024. Created by David Szymanski, the mind behind Dusk and Iron Lung, follows the trend of more recent, short entries by the developer. The game is a bite-sized piece of survival horror, meant to be finished within a single sitting as it takes under an hour to complete. To give credit where it is due, dimly-lit corridors of the factory carry a spark of ingenious design which made David Szymanski a household name among indie fans. However, The Pony Factory is not what you might expect it to be and for multiple reasons, we will get to these. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3320219700 Long-range tactical husbandry needs As a toothy grin of an equine skull peering at the player from the main menu may indicate, the titular Ponies are less than wholesome creatures. Similarly welcoming is the industrial interior of the factory, both desolate and shrouded in monochromatic darkness. Despite a sardonic spin on the horror genre, the game efficiently establishes oppressive atmosphere, once tormented wailing of a pony begins to echo throughout the narrow corridors. To stave off the encroaching darkness, the player is provided with an Automatic Bolt Gun, capable of delivering 40 rounds of industrial-grade pony-processing firepower. Neatly showcasing simple yet smart design – muzzle flash of the weapon is the primary source of illumination during the early levels of the game. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3320219957 Another aspect of the game more than worthy of a separate mention is how The Pony Factory utilizes its ever-present notes. Admittedly, random pieces of paper plastered all around the place, are something of an indie horror staple of narrative exposition. What elevates the notes in this title is the corporate language they are filled with. Full to the brim with absurd euphemisms, they add a distinct humouristic quality to what often is utterly underwhelming part of the game. The other side of the coin Truth be told, while there is a couple of fun details I’ve left uncovered, delving any further into a 40-odd minute title would approach writing its novelization. Instead, let’s address the elephant in the room, as I would imagine even David Szymanski fans (who I believe to be the only target audience of this obscure game) may end up disappointed upon approaching The Pony Factory blindly. To begin with, this isn’t the first time this game was made available for distribution. Original version was created as a part of the first Dread X Collection. More importantly, Dread X entries are created in a game jam format. In this particular case, the game was supposed to be completed within a week. While impressive given the circumstances , understandably concessions in terms of quality and complexity had to be made. Toss a coin to your dev All things considered, The Pony Factory is a mixed bag in my book. To be fair, it does deliver a fun and intense experience, however only once the circumstances of the game’s conception are known, does it become any impressive. Should you happen to come across this game blindly, it is likely to end bafflingly quick. Furthermore, while the price tag is symbolic, Chop Goblins – the actual newest game by David Szymanski at the time of writing, offers a lot more content and polish. Ultimately, purchase of The Pony Factory boils down to whether you would like to toss a coin in direction of your favourite indie dev or not. I will leave the matter at your discretion, but should you lean towards “no” you are probably better off giving The Dread X Collection a go instead.
