With almost 25 hours in this game feels weird to not leave a better review. However, the magical mixture mill was not what I originally thought it would be. The game lends itself to a cozy feel of collecting ingredients while navigating a colorful landscape. Most objectives are *craft this many of this potion for this person* and the customer system seemed weird, as there are only a handful of customers that actually visit your shop regularly. Automation system was rigid and simple, which did not allow a lot of room for creativity with room layouts or assembly line design. The Arcane Power system seemed to tedious to engage with (requires a single mixture for only a few seconds of power, i.e., it would cost about 20-30 mixtures to smelt a stack of glass). There's only about a dozen types of structures and each one as non-customizable input and output slots so opportunity to create useful assembly lines was limited. The main story mission ended abruptly with a bridge buildable in the bog that I am unable to reach. Another problem I had with this game was that you could not further expand the selling part of your shop, only the production floor. So after repairing the shelf you can still only really stock 20 potions, which doesn't the player enough space to do sell multiple types of the same potions (factors such as potency, flavor, glassware will all make their own individual stack). If you make stronger potions than you've progressed in you relationship with different characters they wont buy the potion (ahh, yes, only certain people buy certain types of potions, and their relationship only goes up when they buy those potions). So i was making Tier 2 potions and my rogue wouldn't buy my cats eye so I ended up with multiple stacks of cats eyes. This was until I unlocked importing and exporting, which helps but then almost makes you wonder why you have the shop as a middleman and not just sell exclusively through exports anyways since you know ever item will sell reliably. It didn't feel like the main story was used as a vehicle for emphasizing the automation (for the more technical players) or helping players prioritize direction (for younger or cozy players). Anyways, I've rambled. TLDR Pros: Cozy, simple, good music, cool concept. liked Origin abilities and tool enchantment, which made harvesting methods unique Cons: Doesn't scratch itch for Satisfactory/Factorio/Techtonica type folks, tedious resource collection, incomplete automation Liked the game, but feels it has more potential.

The Magical Mixture Mill is a game with some of my favourite stuff: potions, magical fantasy, and a cute visual style! The game is solid and charming enough if you're into the fantasy of brewing potions and having a little shop. The many sound effects are especially wonderful. I was expecting a larger focus on the factory aspect of the game, but even though I would look elsewhere for a factory game, The Magical Mixture Mill offers a passable and enjoyable potion shop experience. It involves a lot of grinding in the form of collecting various herbs and other resources, so if that's what you're into, this might suit your tastes. One of my favourite things is to simply roam around with my scythe tool, slurping up all the flora. I feel like the game has some neglected potential, in that the potion effects aren't really explored in any meaningful sense – the various characters also not very interesting, as they give the same stock response every time you chat with them. You are also able to select a class at the beginning of the game. I would like to be able to change classes during a saved game, as I haven't really seen any reason – other than trying a new class – to restart from scratch.

I bought this unsure whether I'd like it or not based off other people's reviews, and now I have played it at least a little almost every night since then. That being said, this game definitely isn't for everyone. I would say the biggest gameplay focuses are the workshop/automation mechanics (setting up your brewing stations, figuring out storage, etc.) and then gathering resources. And boy howdy are you gonna need resources. I don't even typically take to automation games, but this one lured me in with its visual appeal and "make things your customers want to buy" gameplay. There's quite a bit of exploring to do, especially while searching for the sources of certain ingredients and such. It felt good whenever I unlocked a new part of the map and had a "oh thiiiiisssss is where I can harvest that!" moment. Things get pretty grindy at some point depending on your goals, but certainly if you are trying to get quests done. I, for one, made it a point to try and unlock all the hats- only one more to go!!! If it helps, the devs are pretty responsive in the community discussions and we get updates :)

It's a cute and cozy potion shop automation game and well worth the asking price. I love the atmosphere and the core game-play loop of discovery and automation is very addicting. The developer is responsive and even adds QOL improvements shortly after they are requested in the discussions. I’m still not finished but I'll respond to some of the downsides mentioned in other reviews. You can't save at any time: You can sleep as soon as noon and there is zero penalty or time constraints from doing so. You can teleport back to your bedside at any time by opening the map menu and paying a very small and reasonable coin amount. So it is 1/4th of the day at most that you would lose in progress if you had to exit out immediately. It’s too grindy: I wish you could import a few more resources that make sense, such as stone for example, but most grindy aspects can be automated. I find it very rewarding strategizing ways to automate the grind and prioritizing what to automate next. Sure, you can’t automate the perfect potion but you can automate a lesser version of it that is perfectly suitable for sale in the shop. It’s a trade off that makes sense in my mind since the rarest ingredients make less sense to have widely available. Some might also find the discovery of recipes for the perfect potions a bit grindy, but that experimentation and discovery is part of roleplaying an alchemist. So yes, the game is grindy, but that in turn makes it all the more rewarding when you automate each aspect of the grind. If grinding the automation of the grind does not sound appealing, this game is not for you. Anyhow, onto some aspects I’d love to see changed or improved or added: -let us import stone around the same time you let us import iron or silver. Stone is a common byproduct of mining those so it makes sense to allow it’s import at the same time. Same with wood. -add an upgrade to allow the sale crate to auto-import from chests. Perhaps there could be special slots that act like the summoner crate. -add an upgrade to increase sale crate inventory size, even if additional shelving is not added to match. The additional slots would serve as reserve that would move up to fill in any empty shelving slots that open up. -add an option to disable the auto-pause behavior when clicking outside of the game window. Some of us multitask :) -add a few slots in which to save networks so they can be built from the build menu. Perhaps there could be a little side room where you would build the network, then press a button or lever to clear the room and save what was cleared into the chosen slot. That way even parts that are not “connected” could be included in the blueprint. This room could come in upgrades, perhaps starting off smaller and becoming larger with them. Overall, tis a lovely game and one of the few purchases in recent memory that I’ve enjoyed this much. Definitely a solid 9/10 for those that enjoy cozy games and it seems to be continuing to improve.

So I did end up refunding this game, but only because I thought the game would be different from what it is. But I do think it's a great game for what it is! I thought it would be more towards the ARPG side, where you go slay monsters gather stuff and go back to your almost fully automated factory. Slaying monsters was sadly not what I experienced and the automation seems to be very lmited. If you like a chill game where you go gather resources go back to your base and brew potions this game is for you. If you like me would like a game where you slay monsters, gather resources, maybe have a skill tree that makes you better and have a almost fully automated factory at home where you just put your resources in a few boxes and go out and slay monsters again, this game is sadly not for us. It's a great game devs, it's just not for me.
